Dear Friends,
This season, the Thousand Islands Playhouse will
be bursting at the seams with profoundly stirring
works that will move your heart and, in many cases,
your feet as well.
As always, we bring together pieces exploring life
and love, promise and passion, but this year TIP’s
ambitions also deliver blockbuster musicals, a
World Premiere and a sexy sequel.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s masterpiece The Pirates of
Penzance, the midlife-crisis songfest Closer Than
Ever and Canadiana Country Classic Dear Johnny
Deere set the tempo for a full dance-card. The
scandalous lovers of Boeing Boeing are back with
Don’t Dress For Dinner and the comedic Blind Date
is a tour-de-force. We’re sure the World Premiere
of Bed and Breakfast and the intimate wonder of
Tuesdays With Morrie will thrill our audiences.
This year, we are introducing a new club for audience
members under 30s (pg 15) and premiering Rose’s
Clothes with our Young Company (pg 19).
We hope you’ll join us for our magnificent
2015 season at the Playhouse!
Yours, Ashlie

SPRINGER THEATRE
A Swashbuckling Musical Comedy
By W. S. Gilbert and A. Sullivan
June 19 – July 18
SPRINGER THEATRE
As Bette Davis famously said, "Growin’ older
ain’t for sissies."
Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance is
the original swashbuckling blockbuster!
Closer Than Ever is an award-winning ‘‘how-to’’
manual for the middle aged – told entirely through
song. This tuneful journey presents us with hilarious
stories: a timid realtor is keeping some sexy secrets,
a man and woman venture into a second marriage (to
each other...again!), a female zoologist is unimpressed
with the male species, and more! Performed by some
of Canada’s finest musical theatre actors – you are not
going to want to miss this one!
On his 21st birthday, Frederic is released from his
apprenticeship to buccaneers and falls madly in
love with Mabel, the Major-General’s daughter. But
when Frederic discovers he was born on a leap
year, he realizes he is indentured to the pirates for
another six decades! Considered by many critics to
be the funniest musical of all time, The Pirates of
Penzance is silly, romantic, and completely iconic –
an all-out musical adventure!
‘‘An infectious sense of joy.’’ – CBC
‘‘Riotously funny...it’s a sure-fire audience-pleaser!’’

FIREHALL THEATRE
Live theatre doesn’t get any livelier than this!
Mimi has been stood up by her blind date, but why
let the night fall to ruin when there are so many
handsome audience members?! Each night, she
invites a willing gentleman for a spontaneous
rendezvous on stage. The result is witty, sexy and
different every time!
After sold out runs in London and New York, we are
delighted that Mimi is coming to the Firehall Stage.
‘‘Irresistible, cheeky and charming.’’
– New York Daily Times
July 24 – August 22
We’re serving up a generous portion of madcap
comedy in Don’t Dress for Dinner, the lightningspeed, scrumptious sequel to Boeing Boeing (2013).
Using best friend Robert as an alibi, Bernard plans
a perfect romantic weekend with his Parisian
mistress while his wife is out of town. But when she
hears that Robert is visiting, Bernard’s wife starts
making plans for a saucy liaison of her own. A cook
named Suzette, a lover named Suzanne and more
twists than a corkscrew, this salacious sequel of
silly suspicion guarantees a good time! Bon appétit!

BED AND BREAKFAST
Mitch Albom’s
A World Premiere Comedy
By Mark Crawford
TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE
Directed by Ashlie Corcoran
Directed by David Jansen
FIREHALL THEATRE
The Playhouse is thrilled to present the World
Premiere of Mark Crawford’s Bed and Breakfast,
a play developed in our 2014 Playwrights’ Unit.
When Brett inherits the family home, he and Drew
move out of quick-paced Toronto to set up a B&B
in a quiet little tourist town. But will these big city
boys face friction in their new community? With
dozens of hilarious characters all portrayed by
two men, Bed and Breakfast is a heartfelt comedy
about ‘‘being out’’ in small town Ontario, skeletons
in the closet, and finding a place to call home.

Tuesdays with Morrie is a play so touching, powerful
and celebratory it may change your outlook on life.
Mitch has simple desire to reconnect with Morrie – a
past teacher who is battling Lou Gherig’s Disease
(ALS). This reconnection becomes a life-affirming
ritual, enabling Morrie to teach his most important
lesson – how to live. This moving and humourous
story is a rare gem that explores the power of
friendship and the necessity of mentors.
‘‘A touching, life-affirming, deeply emotional drama with
a generous dose of humour.’’

SPRINGER THEATRE
Juno Award-winning Fred Eaglesmith’s fun and
evocative country songs have been masterfully
woven into this foot-stompin’ musical.
Lately, not much has been growing on Johnny’s
farm – or in his wife’s heart. So when a man from
the city comes knocking and says they’re going to
put a big ol’ highway through Johnny’s land, he has
some tough choices to make. Full of sing-a-long
melodies and toe-tapping rhythms, this Canadian
saga is told with wit, energy and heart.

Directed by Rob Kempson
April 20 – June 28
TOURING SHOW
A playful tale about messing up, dressing up and
growing up.
Rose is having a bad day. A very, very, very, VERY
bad day. First she gets in trouble from her mother,
then her teacher, and even her father. They all want
her to take more responsibility but Rose wishes
somebody would just do everything for her.
Then she discovers the secret locked in her
Grandmother’s big trunk: magical clothes allowing
her to speak to the generations of women who
came before her! At first it seems like all her
problems are solved, but quickly things spiral out
of control. Can the audience help Rose by using
their imagination...and by wearing the magic
clothes themselves?
