A lot of hard work went into the planning and execution of putting up all the wooden horses with the ten foot 4x4‛s, along with the tank alignment measurements. Thank you Eric Hayashi for chairing our annual fish show again; your attention to detail, safety standards and providing the judging forms made our show another success for the Honolulu Aquarium Society. I would like to thank all of our membership who participated in showing their tanks and in your pride displaying them. I know that it was a lot of hard work and anxious moments in getting your tanks ready for the show. It took a lot of imagination in producing some of your tanks and it was all worth it because you won a ribbon in your category, congratulations to all! The Mega auction was awesome. We made a lot of money to sustain our club for the various functions we have during the year. Thank you all for your Mega generosity for our club. I cannot over emphasize the importance of your donations; it provides our board with the opportunity to give the HAS the best programs, family gatherings, and our yearly fish shows. Much Mahalo again!! I am very sorry I wasn‛t able to be at the Mega auction; I heard that it was a lot of fun with a little stress! I took ill and asked Alan Teraoka to stand in for me. Alan thanks for doing a great job for us. I understand that the many friends of our members also gave great donations continued on page 3 http://www.honoluluaquariumsociety.org 1 Volume 2009, Issue 11 November 2009 I'AO HAWAI'I THE 2009 FISH SHOW WINNERS October 9-11, 2009 BEST IN SHOW FISH Preston Otsuka BEST IN SHOW PLANTED Mitchell Wong PEOPLE'S CHOICE Jerry Wong NOVICE ADVANCED COMMUNITY - Novelty st 1 Place: Franklyn Lau LIVEBEARERS st 1 Place: Preston Otsuka nd 2 Place: Preston Otsuka rd 3 Place: Preston Otsuka FAMILY TANK st 1 Place: Wayne Steljes nd 2 Place: Jerry Wong Lance Pang Eric Hayashi 1st Place: GROW OUT (FURCATA RAINBOW) Lance Pang 1st Place: 2nd Place: 3rd Place: COMMUNITY - NATURAL st 1 Place: Kamalii Leong nd 2 Place: Graydon Southard COMMUNITY NOVELTY st 1 Place: Michael & Kimberly Chong nd 2 Place Adam Kono rd 3 Place Stephen Fong EGG LAYERS (PAIRS) st 1 Place: Alan Teraoka 2nd Place: 3rd Place: COMMUNITY - MINIATURE st 1 Place: Mitchell Wong nd 2 Place: Raul Sabat rd 3 Place: Mitchell Wong Alan Teraoka Wayne Steljes GUPPIES 1st Place: Robin Echavaria 2nd Place: Franklyn Lau rd 3 Place: Preston Otsuka FAMILY TANK Warren Muraoka 1st Place: 2nd Place: 3rd Place: EGG LAYERS Philip Lee Joshua Harada Philip Lee LIVE BEARERS Andrew Wakuzawa 1st Place: SINGLE FISH 1st Place: Michael & Kimberly Chong 2nd Place: Warren Muraoka 3rd Place: George Carlson HONORABLE MENTION Reese Echavaria 2 http://www.honoluluaquariumsociety.org November 2009 I'AO HAWAI'I Volume 2009, Issue 11 continued from page 1 in support of our clubs‛ Mega auction, thank you for your support. The HAS board appreciates your generosity!. This year's annual fish showing was a big success especially in the public‛s attendance. Surely the Orchid Show did help in the attendance; however we had over 1,000 people attend over the three day period. Great job Baron in counting the visitors and handing out the People's Choice ballots for us. Baron Fukata is our clubs‛ Sergeant at Arms at all of HAS functions. Jerry Wong won the Peoples Choice Award certainly has major bragging rights! I think the count for his display was in the vicinity of several hundred votes; well done!! The public was very excited and wanted to participate in our fish show. There was a big miscommunication on the timeline of the break down (closing of the show). I take full responsibility for that; however we cannot be late in taking down a tank. You should be at the show at least 30 to 45 minutes early to be ready to remove your display. You must make arrangements for your tank removal by someone in the club if you are not able to make it. You must call someone in the club if you cannot be there. It creates a major problem for the clean up crew and the other members taking down their tanks. We do not want to take responsibility for your fish dying. We know that everyone's fish is very important and could be very expensive and difficult to replace. The Honolulu Aquarium Society will not take responsibility or liability for your possible lost. Please be responsible for your own tanks. If anyone has any questions; do not hesitate to ask a board member. There‛s a lot that happens at the fish show. Most of you may not realize what it takes to have a successful one. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all of you that got involved to make our show the BEST. Next year will be even better; we need to make some corrections in procedures and assignments to make the show more interesting and fun for all. Any suggestions, please let me know. I'm very open to all ideas. The November meeting will be the presentation of awards from the fish show, our regular auction and the raffle. Don‛t forget about the Christmas Party at Tree Tops in Manoa; great fun and good food, on Saturday, December 5th. Paying at the door will cost you double, so get your payment in at the November general membership meeting. See you all at the next meeting!!
