August Newsletter Information or inserts are due in the Chamber Office by July 17th It is with a heavy heart that we say good-bye to departing Board members David Lowe, Lowe and Lowe Attorneys, and Dorothy Secrest, Secrest Western Store. Dorothy served on the Board for six years, as did David, who also served as Board President from June of 2002 to June of 2004. Both of these members have been instrumental Board members who were always more than willing to jump in and help with any project. During the June Board Directors Meeting, outgoing Board President Bob Chapman expressed his gratitude for his experiences while Bob Chapman serving as the Board President. “I want to express to this board my thanks for the opportunity that was given to me to serve the Chamber,” said Chapman. David and Dorothy also took that moment to thank their fellow Board members for the times they have shared while serving the Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce. “I think the main thing is to give David Lowe Your Board of Directors. Left to right, Joel Goodridge, Bruce Price, Darrell Layman, Lindall Mostajo, Lorie Terry, Wayne Strohschein, Ronda Neff, Steve Lynch, and Dave Kessler. back and be apart of the community,” said David Lowe, “that's what's been rewarding for me.” The Waynesville-St. Robert Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to present its new president Steven Lynch, Lynch's Furniture. Steve took office during the 2006 June Membership Social held June 26th at the Rockin R/Adonia's. We look forward to hearing more from Mr. Lynch as he begins his presidency. The Chamber would also like to extend a Dorothy Secrest warm welcome to new board members Lindall Mostajo of the Armed Forced Bank, Ronda Neff from Lowe & Lowe Attorneys, and Bruce Price of IEM Corporation. We also once again say hello to returning Board member Joel Goodridge of the Daily Guide. PFAA Mystery Dinner Highlights Membership Social Dinner This year's Chamber Membership Social was a one of a kind good time! The Chamber would like to thank the Rockin R and Adonia's for hosting this event, the food and ambiance were both spectacular. We'd also like to give thanks and acknowledge the Pulaski County Fine Arts Association, especially Mr. Dana Wheatley for the effort that went into putting together the Murder Mystery Dinner “Murder in the Center Ring.” Who knew our membership consisted of so many thespians? Leading this merry troupe was the playwright himself Dana Wheatley who played the part of Smoken Gunn, the private eye who kept the investigation, and the night, moving along. Shawn Cordry made us all laugh as the depressed clown Happy Joy-Joy. While Joel Goodridge, who played Pong Lee, a Chinese acrobat whose not really Chinese, gave the crowd some words of wisdom as his character spoke like a fortune cookie. Joel's sidekick for the evening was Marsha Mercer who played Ping Lee, Pong's supposed sister. Twyla Cordry played the somewhat brazen Betty Stubble a bearded lady who is second in command around this big top and rumored to be involved with Happy. And who better to serve as our Circus gypsy than Ina Fernandez who played the part of Madame Rosa Glasses. Bruce Price proved that he could go against his nature by playing the Circus huckster, Sly Barker and the Bechts, Randy and Debbie, were a riot as Oliver Twist the contortionist and FiFi Trunks the elephant trainer. Now we all know from our membership luncheons that Mike Alley has no trouble speaking in front of a large crowd, this time he did it with a Russian accent (sorta) as he played Ivan Ivanovitch the circus strongman. Last but not least was the star of the show, Ronda Neff who played Ima Sweeper the circus janitor and the murderer. The night wouldn't have been possible without the generous donation from our sponsor EMBARQ. The Chamber thanks Claudia Sands with EMBARQ for helping to make this night complete. ~ Featured Business for July~ $7ULEXWHWRWKH ȹȐɑȨȃǸȽLɄȵȇȨȐɑ Snapshots From Membership Dinner ~ Upcoming Events ~ Chamber Office Closed - July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Unfortunately, due to the large number of last minute Chamber luncheon attendees a policy has been put into place by the Chamber Board of Directors. This policy started in April 2005; anyone who responds after the R.s.v.p. cut-off time (9:00 a.m. the Tuesday before the luncheon) or shows up without an R.s.v.p. may be charged an additional $10. If an R.s.v.p. is received and they do not attend the luncheon there may be a $10 charged for the meal. The decision was made to charge this amount to compensate our Chamber member restaurants for the last minute adjusts they must make to their menus. We have a lot of talented members and I appreciate their participation. It was a fun time with lots of laughs. I would like to say a special good bye to Dorothy, David and Bob as they leave the Board of Directors. I appreciate all the support and time they provided, not to mention the guidance that allowed me to grow during my first year at the Chamber. And warm welcome to our new Board of Directors, Lindall, Bruce and Ronda and a welcome back to Joel. I look forward to working with you over the upcoming years. The month of July is a busy one for me personally. I will be out of the office on vacation for three weeks from July 3rd through the 21st. As most of you know I am getting married to a wonderful man, Don Murray. I appreciate the membership's understanding during my absence and with Erin in the office by herself. I am leaving everything in her good hands and know she will do an outstanding job. Erin thanks for helping get everything accomplished before I left and taking care of everything so there is nothing for me to worry about while I am gone. I completed my second year of Chamber Institute in Madison, WI the first part of June. It was a wonderful networking opportunity and learning experience. I look forward to bringing the knowledge back to the Chamber and our community in the upcoming year. If you have any questions please give me a call at 573-336-5121. Development Fundraising Committee Noon 6 Thursday HOT…..HOT……HOT………It started out that way at Operation Homecoming in Branson and has stayed that way. Inquiries for additional information has been the same. Website and phone requests are more than doubled from last year. Look for information on how to reach those potential customers through the Tourism Bureau website, in the Visitor Center and through the 2007 visitor guide. We saw hundreds of Vietnam Veteran's during Operation Homecoming at our booth and most had not been through our area since the late 60's and 70's, so it was a great opportunity to talk about the exciting changes and invite them back. Hopefully we will see a few reunions from them as well. Our next show will not be until this fall when we start our sports marketing shows. If you participate in a regional sporting event and would like to host your next one here, give us a call to help. We can provide a lot of the planning and event coordination through our office free of charge. Thanks to all of the chamber members that supported the Pulaski County Regional Fair. We hope you found time to go out and enjoy the shows and events, in-between the raindrops. Plans have already begun for next year. If you are interested in serving on a Fair committee or have any input for next year's event, please send me an e-mail with your request. 31 Summer is starting to wind down and the Visitor Center is available to those of you who procrastinated and didn't plan that family vacation. There are literally thousands of places to choose, and all within the state of Missouri. All of the information the Visitor Center offers is complimentary so stop by and start those vacation plans before you run out of time.
