Community Annual Report TO THE 2009-10 147 N. Rural Street, Hartford, WI • Ph. 262-670-0560 • Fax 262-670-0937 • www.SchauerCenter.org Schauer Center 2009-10 Annual Report Dear Neighbors, Although economic conditions showed little to no sign of recovery from July 2009 through June 2010, the Schauer Center showed no sign of stagnation or even slowing down. To the contrary, we reached a milestone of serving over a quarter million people through Schauer Center administered programs since our inception (almost 10 years prior) through fiscal year end, June 30, 2010. That number excludes facility rentals and benefit/fundraising events. If those numbers were added, the impact of the Schauer Center as a regional arts center would be nothing short of staggering. Here are just a few 2009-10 fiscal year highlights: • Church Basement Ladies opens our 2009-10 performing arts series with unprecedented popularity; sells out seven performances. Nearly 170 church or motorcoach groups attend. The show producer refers to Schauer Center performances as the “Milwaukee run” of this production, unfamiliar territory for the Schauer Center, to say the least. • We host two weeks of World Fest, two independent full-length weeks of artists in residence. China’s Beauty & Melody in Fall and Agatsuma’s Japanese Music Ensemble in Spring round out our first year of this commitment. More than 3,000 K-12 students from eight area schools experience a foreign culture through this experience. The Schauer Center is proud of its status as the only Wisconsin venue chosen in the Midwest to host this two-year cycle of Arts Midwest World Fest, from 2009-11. • The Hartford Players work collaboratively with the Schauer Center to produce the first ever legitimate dinner theater on premises. Over 1,650 attend Wake Me When I’m Dead, an Irish-themed murder mystery. Produced as a fundraiser for the Schauer Center, it was a major success with eight sold out performances and net proceeds of over $20,000. Perhaps boding well for dinner theater to become a staple of Schauer Center programming for years to come? • The Wisconsin Arts Board’s bi-annual review of our performing arts programming grant application ranks the Schauer Center #1 out of 89 venues across the state. A first. • Finally, on June 12, the Schauer Center closes its 2009-10 year with a Community Clay Stomp. The event also serves as a kick-off of our 10th anniversary celebration planned for 2010-11. Nearly 700 people attend the Stomp on a hot summer day. Participants stomp and carve in the clay which eventually will be transformed into a sculpture/mural to be permanently installed in front of the Schauer Center. A Spring or Summer 2011 installation date is planned. Sum total, programs administered by the Schauer Center served almost 50,000 area residents during the 2009-10 fiscal year. Nothing short of a miracle in this economy. Then again, with your continued support , anything is possible. Thanks for your help in nurturing our artistic ambitions and enhancing the quality of life for all residents of our region through the arts. Artfully Yours, Thomas J.
