December 2015 Newsletter
At St. Timothy Catholic School we:
RESPECT our Catholic faith traditions
CELEBRATE our achievements and
PREPARE tomorrow’s thinkers.
Principal Perspective
O come O come Emmanuel, Lord Jesus. Rest in our hearts this Advent Season. Teach us to be generous in our giving to
others, not only of our resources but our time, talents and peaceful spirit. In all our preparations for Christmas, may we
keep our eyes on you knowing and believing that you are the reason for our pending celebration. Be born in us a little
more each day as we await the joy of Christmas and the hope and faith that each New Year brings to us. Advent:
Faith, Hope Charity:
1)
Faith - Advent Prayer: each week of Advent classes and divisions will gather around the Advent wreath to hear
the weekly Gospel readings, reflect and decide on the compassionate actions that The Word of God asks of us.
“What Nick and Holly found in Grandpas Attic”: an Advent story will be shared daily. Teachers have a matching
story book with ornaments that relate to the story to hang on their classroom Christmas tree. Advent Mass –
Join us on Wednesday December 10th at 10:30 am for Mass with Fr. Jerome.
2) Hope - Following current events in newspapers, TV and social media, each of us are called to consider school,
local and global perspectives on conflict and peace. Our Advent reflections and actions remind us how we are
called to be peacemakers, bringing hope and light to the world.
3) Charity - St Aloysius Angel Tree- Help make Christmas special for a family who needs the extra bit of support. Select an angel, purchase the gift, and return it to the school, and we provide it to the parish. Many of our
own St Timothy’s families benefit from your generosity through the Angel Tree campaign. Thanks you for your
care and support.
St Aloysius Parish Christmas Hampers- each class has been assigned special items to fill up the Christmas
Hampers. Thank you for your help!
Newsworthy Items and Updates
Thank you! I am so appreciative of our Catholic School Council Fundraising committee! A tremendous fundraiser raising over $2,500 for projects that will benefit all students at St Tim’s! Thank you to all students and their families who
were active selling the magazine subscriptions.
Tigers Care Triage: St Timothy triage is a special caring group of senior students who are helping with small injuries
and “boo boos” that happen from time to time on the yard. All students accessing the triage center must have seen a
yard duty supervisor first. Small scratches, body bumps etc. can be seen by triage. Head injuries or bleeding will always
be referred to the office for adult support.

What’s Happening @ Your Library
This year in our library we are taking part in the Forest of Reading once again. You may access https://
www.accessola.com . Students not only learn about the various Canadian books, publishers, authors and
illustrators, they also take part in activities, lessons and voting during the next couple of months. We have also
added some of the material for Forest of Reading on our Learning Commons e-book, audiobook, (Overdrive) site
that you can find here: https://staffnet.wcdsb.ca/ps/Resource/Documents/Library-Services/eBooks/
OverDrive_GettingStarted_pamphlet_WCDSB.pdf.
What may we find in our new Learning Commons?
Virtual Learning Commons: E-Z Find

Here are a few other sites that are available at our Learning Commons site that could assist our students with
assignments, projects, or assisting with reading: Library Catalogue & Databases WCDSB Library Catalogues,

never know what you might find.
St. Timothy Angel Tree
Volunteers Needed
Beginning on Monday November 30th angels will be
available to take from the tree in our school library.
Each angel will have the age a boy or girl on it. If you
decide to allow your child to choose an angel from the
tree, please indicate this in writing in their agenda. Return the angel to school attached to the UNWRAPPED
gift that you purchase. All angels must be returned to
school by Thursday December 10th. As always you generosity is much appreciated.
We would like to begin the All Star Reading program soon. We need parent volunteers who
have some time during the day to come and listen to grade 1, 2, 3 children read. Please let Miss
Gordanier know if you are available (time and
day) as the program works best if students have
the opportunity to read frequently during the
week in a 1:1 setting with many different volunteers. Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Important reminder for Bad Weather Days!
School Parking Lot & Parking
Some parking spaces are available at the school during the day for parents and visitors; however, the parking lot
is closed from 8:45 to 9:00 am and 3:25 to 3:40pm to facilitate safe student arrival and departure . Parking on
Bechtel Drive is allowed. Please note the signs for the designated area up the hill, and park on the school side
only. Additional parking to drop off students is available at the Pioneer Park Community Centre Parking Lot. If
you are using the Community Centre, please do not stop in the Community Centre drop-off area at the front-use a
parking space.
If you are dropping off or picking up your child before/after school please remember to park or stop your vehicle by the curb up the hill to let the child(ren) out. Stopping to let children off in front of the school is not permitted, cars will be ticketed. The front driveway is to be used by school buses only from 8:30 to 9:00 and 3:30
to 4:00 daily. Vehicles are not allowed to pull into the driveway closest to the fire station as the children use
this area to enter the playground in the morning and exit in the evening. Students are not allowed to use the
parking lot to access the play yard.

School Council
Hello from School Council,
We would like to thank everyone who helped out with our magazine and Christmas greens
fundraiser. It was a great success!
Council is busy preparing for Christmas time with a Christmas lunch for the students as
well as organizing a visit from Santa.
We have recently formed a couple of committees to further some of the work we do for the
school community. The first is a Playground Committee. The current playground in the
schoolyard has a remaining life expectancy of approximately two years. The committee will
be responsible for assisting with researching and applying for grants, investigating possible
replacement equipment and any other tasks that may apply. The second is a yearbook
committee. If you would be interested in helping out with either of these, please contact Liz
or Leanne at the email addresses below.

On behalf of the entire School Council, we would like to wish you
and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Congratulations to St. Timothy students, who raised $258 for United Way during our twoonie
Halloween dance.

Late arrivals to school: We need your help:
Lately the number of students arriving late to school has been increasing, causing great levels of unsafe congestion
in the front door area and office. All students’ grades 1-8 arriving late to the school prior to 9:05 am are asked to
use the rear school doors off the yard, check in with their teacher and then report to the office for their late slip.
The rear doors will be open until 9:10 am and then locked. Students are deemed late to school after O Canada
starts. Late attendance is recorded as part of the Ontario student record.
Students arriving after 9:10 am should use the front door of the school and directly check in at the office.
Thank you for your help.
2015 St. Aloysius Christmas Hamper Program
As we begin Advent and prepare for the celebration of Christmas, we are reminded of the less fortunate. In support of St.
Aloysius Parish, the St. Timothy School community has chosen to contribute to the Christmas Hamper Program. Our
action reflects the sharing of our blessings, joy and the meaning of Christmas with those in need.
Each classroom has been assigned a specific item to contribute to the wider Christmas Hamper Program. We would
appreciate your generosity and support of this Advent initiative.

Students that walk to school are expected to attend and a phone call needs to be made
when they stay at home.

Dress for the Weather
With the arrival of winter weather, it is important that all students have indoor footwear. Sock/stocking feet are not allowed in
school. This is a matter of safety in the
event of an emergency evacuation.
@stim_gotigers
Please make sure students arrive to school
with mitts, hats, and snow pants and an extra pair of socks. This will ensure your
child will be comfortable for the entire
school day. Thank you for your cooperation.
Coming to St. Timothy School! Lego Mindstorms for students in
Grades 4—8. Listen to announcements for more information.
