April 4, 2016
The Castleberry Board of Education met in regular session on April 4, 2016 at the CISD Gary S. Jones Administration Building.
The invocation was given by Mary Lou Martinez.
Hector F., Student at Castleberry Elementary School, led the United States and Texas Pledges of Allegiance.
RECOGNITION OF GUESTS
Ricardo Montalvo, Principal at Castleberry Elementary, recognized students and staff
members.
Jacey J., 3rd Grader, was recognized for being an outstanding student at Castleberry
Elementary School. She shows exceptional citizenship and friendship to all her classmates.
She comes to school with a smile and a good attitude every day.
Sofia G., 4th Grader, was recognized as an outstanding student at Castleberry Elementary
School. She has a passion for writing, articulates concepts well, and is able to write with
creative expression. Sofia was the campus winner of the Science Fair this school year.
Victoria D., 5th Grader, was recognized as an outstanding student at Castleberry Elementary
School. She is an avid reader, always gives her best effort, she perseveres in all classwork, and
kindly supports all classmates. She knows that her effort is directly tied to her school success.
Sallee Clark was recognized as an outstanding Teacher Librarian. Mrs. Clark has presented at
the Texas Computer Education Association conference and was nominated for the School
Library Journal Librarian of the Year in the 2014-2015 school year. She hosts the makey-makey
club and prepares school-wide presentations. Mrs. Clark’s desire to do better is driven by her
passion to see students succeed and enjoy reading.
Nydia Labra, Paraeducator, was recognized as an incredible asset to Castleberry Elementary
School. Ms. Labra assists with box tops for education, accepts tasks without reservation, is very
methodical, and readily available to assist anywhere she is needed. She was also recognized at
the Superintendent’s Breakfast this school year.
Tammy Ramsey, Parent Volunteer, was recognized for her outstanding
dedication to Castleberry Elementary School. Ms. Ramsey runs the
PTO for the campus, volunteers for campus events, and always puts
the needs of our students and staff first. Tammy has volunteered more
than 100 hours each school year for the past several years. She is
always available and ready to help out in all areas at CE!

RECOGNITION OF GUESTS
Jessica Estillette, Curriculum Director of Language Arts, recognized the CISD 2015-2016
Spelling Bee winners from each campus.
Alexaundra W., 8th grade student, was recognized as the Irma Marsh Middle School spelling
bee winner. Her interests include writing stories, enjoying arts and crafts, and playing games.
Alexaundra is always cheerful and eager to help others and is extremely smart.
Colyn R., 4th grade student, was recognized as the Joy James Elementary School spelling bee
winner. Colyn is a fabulous student with an outstanding work ethic. Colyn is currently a member
of JJE’s Student Council as well as the new Coding Club where he is working on designing a
computer ping pong game.
Ximena M., 5th grade student, was recognized as the Castleberry Elementary
School spelling bee winner. Ximena is studious and responsible. Everyone can
count on her to do the right thing. She is an excellent team player, ensuring her
entire team is included and involved.
Lilly R., 3rd grade student, was recognized as the A.V. Cato Elementary School
spelling bee winner. Lilly is a wonderful, hardworking student that goes above and
beyond what is expected. She is very creative and can take something simple and
turn it into a work of art.

CONSENT AGENDA
The Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the consent agenda. The consent
agenda consists of items that the board considers routine and approves under one motion.
The items approved were:
1. Board Minutes from the February 18, 2016, School Board Workshop and March 7, 2016
Regular Board Meeting.
2. Expenditure Report for the month of March 2016.
3. Resolution 15-004 to sell the struck-off property at 6149 Brocks Lane, Fort Worth, TX.
4. Resolution 15-005 to sell the struck-off property at 6153 Brocks Lane, Fort Worth, TX.
5.
Resolution 15-006 to sell the struck-off property at 1009 Tyra Lane, Fort Worth, TX.
7. Resolution 15-007 to sell the struck-off property at 1013 Tyra Lane, Fort Worth, TX.
8.
Renewal of the Food Service Management Contract with Aramark for one year.
Aramark has been the District’s Food Service Management Company since January 2016.
As required by TDA, the District accepted proposals for this service in the fall of 2015. The
mandated term for the contract was for one year with four one-year renewal options.

DONATIONS
The Castleberry Athletic Booster Club donated $100 to help cover the cost of meals for the
CHS soccer teams when they traveled to Stephenville, Texas.
The Castleberry Athletic Booster Club donated $500 to help cover the cost of meals for the
CHS baseball team when they traveled to Poteau, Oklahoma during spring break.
FINANCIAL SERVICES
Budget Priorities were presented to the Board for the initial budget planning for the 2016-2017
school year. Preliminary revenue projections and budget allocation priorities have been
determined.
Financial Services Executive Director Report:
1) Tarrant County Tax Collection Reports for February 29, 2016 reflected the amount of
taxes, penalty, interest & delinquent taxes collected for the month and year to date and
the percent of the total levy collected.
2) Investment Report for the month of February 29, 2016 showed District investments by
fund for the month ending February 29, 2016.
3) Board Budget Report as of February 29, 2016 showed revenue and expenditures by
fund and function.
The Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the Budget Amendment.
The Board of Education reviewed the proposal for changing the fiscal year budget for
Castleberry ISD. Administration currently sets the budget to operate on a September 1st August 31st fiscal year. The proposed change is to set the budget and operate on a July 1stJune 30th fiscal year.
The Board of Education reviewed Employee Benefit Providers. In efforts to maximize benefits
the District offers to the employees in a cost-affordable manner, the district is exploring different
options as it relates to current / possible future providers of employee benefits. The district will
continue to work closely with possible benefit providers and provide the 2016-2017 pricing
options as soon as they become available. We also will ensure the employee coverage will be
equal to or greater than the coverage now provided to employees at comparable pricing.

INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES
Curriculum Based Assessments and Benchmark Update: Campus data was shared with the
board for the February assessment window.
The Board of Education voted unanimously to approve professional contract renewals.
Policy Update 104 was presented for the Board’s review of TASB Policy Update 104.
Policy Update FFA (Local) included local recommendations for policy update.
Dr. Laina McDonald took the Board on a Learning Walk and shared with the Board of Education our Standards Based Bulletin
Boards that are being implemented in Castleberry schools.
Tracy Bose, Math Teacher, at Castleberry High School
presented the CHS math bulletin board. The AP statistics
projects entailed students illustrating data using standardized
scores and normal distribution displays. The Geometry
classes created web storyboards that required students to
illustrate logic arguments for conditional, inverse, converse
and contrapositive statements. The AQR Class project
utilized online tools and other resources to research
budgeting calculations based on their personal goals and
lifestyle preferences.

Gavin Watson – 8th Grade Technology Applications; Darla
Wilson – 8th Grade Career Explorations presented their
bulletin board displays. Students in Technology Applications
created magazine covers using Photoshop. Artifacts include
reflection blogs about the students work in Technology
Applications. Career Exploration students after researching
careers in corporations and different career clusters, used EMaze, Powtoons and Voki to share their information with their
peers. Students found careers that were behind the scenes in
some of their favorite places such as lawyers, accountants,
graphic artist and IT personnel.

STUDENT SERVICES
1. The Capital Improvements Program Projects update included information on
programming, renovations, and construction.
2. Designated Projects Update Report reflected work scheduled to be completed and funds
expended through the 2015-16 school year.
3. The Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the of Sale (Online Auction) of
District Metal & Woodworking Machinery. Lone Star Auctioneers is a certified small
business headquartered in the Metroplex. Lone Star’s Online Auction is a full service firm
providing a full range of auction services to all levels of government: city, county, state and
federal. For city and county governments and school districts, Lone Star sells office
equipment, furniture, machinery, and surplus vehicles.
4. The Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the Interlocal Contract method of
delivery for the Field Turf construction project.
5. The Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt the prevailing wage rates as
determined by the US Department of Labor for Tarrant County for the Field Turf construction
project.
6. The Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Sports Design Group as the
engineer and authorizing administration to negotiate a contract for the Field Turf
construction project.
7. The Board of Education voted unanimously to authorize administration to negotiate a
contract under BuyBoard with Paragon Sports Constructors, LLC for construction of the
Field Turf construction project.
