Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle What goes in the food and garden waste bin? THE FOOD AND GARDEN WASTE BIN All Forbes residents receive a WEEKLY Food and Garden Waste Collection Service. There are strict requirements on what can and can’t be put into the food and garden waste bin. Only organic (food and garden) waste should be placed in the food and garden waste bin The lid of the bin needs to close completely All bins need to be removed from the kerb by residents as soon as possible after emptying Please note: the Daroobalgie Waste Depot located at Daroobalgie Road, is open to the public for the disposal of bulk waste such as white goods, electronics, recycling and bulk garden waste. Cake, pasta & rice Dried leaves & lawn clippings All diary food Tea & coffee Meat, chicken, fish & all bones Cardboard boxes, newspaper, tissues Fruit & & paper towel vegetable scraps Fresh leaves, twigs & prunings An audit of the red lidded, general waste garbage bins, undertaken in Forbes in May 2015, showed that on average 60% of these bins are filled with organic (food and garden) waste each week, and only 57% of the bin is full. As our population continues to grow so does the amount of waste we generate. To help save valuable landfill space and the production of harmful greenhouse gases, formed as waste breaks down, place all garden and food waste in the green lidded bin to help divert these materials from being disposed of at landfill and lost forever. www.forbes.nsw.gov.au Waste Hotline 1300 725 415 rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle ‘Sort for our future’ What goes in the food and garden waste bin? WHAT HAPPENS TO ORGANIC WASTE? After your organic waste is collected it is taken to Australian Native Landscape (ANL) located at 755 Browns Creek Road Blayney, where it is shredded and reprocessed into composts, mulches, potting mixes and/or soil for future use. By using the food and garden waste bin correctly you are not only helping to reduce the production of methane gas and leachate which are produced at landfill when waste begins to break down but are also helping to support a sustainable waste management system. www.//anlscape.com.au DO NOT put these items in the food and garden waste bin Building materials Car batteries, syringes & medical waste Rocks & soil Plastic wrapping, packets & garbage Oil, paint & gas bottles Plastic bags www.forbes.nsw.gov.au Recyclables Waste Hotline 1300 725 415 rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle
