ministry update - New York Church of God
New York Church of God CHRISTMAS GREETINGS FROM ADMINISTRATIVE BISHOP ANDREW BINDA I t seems like we just celebrated Christmas and yet here we are preparing for another Christmas celebration. Don’t get me wrong, I love this season and I don’t mind celebrating another Christmas. When I was a child, I refused to take a nap on Christmas day, thinking that I was wasting the most special day of the year. What I am trying to say is that time passes so swiftly and we need to take time to enjoy this joyous season. After all, we have the greatest reason to celebrate since God sent His most precious gift to us. Bishop Andrew Binda & First Lady Valerie Binda The big question in society these days is, Why Christmas? Why all the celebration? Why all the shopping? What’s so great about Christmas? Thankfully, the Lord Himself gives us the answer in the scriptures. Luke 5:32, tells us that He came to call sinners to repentance. Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. Matthew 20:28, gives us the purpose for His coming. As a matter of fact, Jesus said of Himself, “The Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give His life a ransom for many.” His ministry (service) involved paying the price of our redemption. John 12:46, gives us another reason for His coming. “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on Me should not abide in darkness”. Jesus is the Light of the World! Last, but not least, Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. So as we celebrate another Christmas, let us take time to thank God for sending Jesus, the Savior of the World. Without Him, there would be no Christmas! May you and your family have the most glorious Christmas ever! “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." nd it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. A (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. nd there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. A And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” nd it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to A another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. (Luke 2:1-20) VOLUME 3, ISSUE 7 - DECEMBER 2013 MINISTRY UPDATE CHRIST BIRTHDAY OFFERING very year at Christmas, Church of God families are asked to contribute an offering equaling the year (e.g. this year the amount is $20.13).
