TWO DEBUTS
A SUNDAY AFFAIR
BY TREC
CURATED BY LAPSAP
In a weeks’ time, on Jan 31, Malaysia’s largest and first purposebuilt F&B and entertainment enclave TREC, will debut A Sunday
Affair or A.S.A – the first music-centric flea market in the city. The
three-part instalment, which will take place on the last Sunday of
the month, is curated by cult music collective LapSap, comprising
artistes Blink and XU.

Fan Alert: A.S.A’s inaugural outing will see headlining act –
William Singe [right, top picture] – Australian singer, songwriter
and producer who made waves as a YouTube sensation. This is
his first visit in Malaysia, and he will be performing exclusively at
A.S.A.
A.S.A will be held at The Quad, an event space located between
Zouk KL and Electric Boulevard. The 61/2-hour event, a TREC
initiative that took two months to put together, is expected to
draw at least 1,000 visitors.
TREC’s managing director Cher Ng says: "A.S.A marks the first
collaborative event for TREC in a three-part instalment, and it is
also a preamble of more such events that would be held at TREC
on a regular basis for different audiences."
MUSIC & THE BEST THERE IS
On Jan 31, Singe will be joined by a pool of emerging and established
music talent on the stage and behind the decks. The live acts include
Daphne Charice and OJ Law. DJs are LapSap, Xes Xes, Naufal & I-sky and
Tubby, alongside Bunga who will play a tribute set to the late David
Bowie.
Blink, A.S.A's co-curator and Zouk KL’s head of program, says: "A Sunday
Affair is a unique proposition as it is a music-focused event where foreign
and local acts come together on one stage, along with the others from
the creative community. But it’s is not just about entertainment, it's about
curating the best vendors for the flea market." CHECK IT OUT

Don’t let the name put you off. It might
mean rubbish in Cantonese but LapSap is
a statement + movement. Taking the
global indie trash aesthetic, LapSap is a
day-glo mash of New York and London
micro-clubs mixed through a Tokyo filter.
A private party started by DJs Blink and Xu in 2007, it
quickly moved from cult to scene, with its own style,
fashion and sound. What started off as a underground
night for Blink and Xu and their friends
quickly ballooned into a monthly party,
LapSap and Co, at Zouk, KL. Other spin
offs include clothing, footwear and their
Junkyard flea market all tied back to
their trash-filled roots. And with a music
policy rooted in electro and breaks that
simply sucks up and mutates any music trend that crosses
its path, it’s no wonder that the LapSap
duo have become two of the most indemand deejays in Malaysia. With phase
one complete, the boys are looking to the

them up to the world. In July 2010 they pushed the scene
in another new direction with LITTERALL, a pioneering AV
show that links cutting edge visuals to hard edged beats.
Their playbook boasts parties and sessions with 2manydjs,
Steve Aoki, Boysnoize, Laidback Luke, Brodinski, Shinichi
Osawa and dozens of the world’s top
electro boffins. So, it’s no surprise that
they’re taking the next step and hitting the
studio. Mixes for Japan’s Dexpistols and
Singapore’s Clash the Disko Kids are
already churning up dancefloors and their
debut EP is scheduled for early 2011. What started as a
small garbage pile has quickly become a massive landfill.
And now, if you can’t come to them, they’re bombing out
of your speakers, throwing trash all over your living room.
