SAUNA AND STEAM BATH
Open from 10 am to 10 pm
Opening for children untill 2 pm
Family sauna every Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm
For the perfect sauna experience
1.
Avoid entering the sauna on an empty or full stomach.
2.
Use a towel to dry your skin before you enter the
sauna. Dry skin will sweat faster.
3.
Taking a warm footbath before your sauna session will
help you sweat more.
4.
Use a large towel in the sauna. Make sure your entire
body is on the towel. Try to make your sauna
stay short but intense. Use the middle or upper bench,
but don’t stay for more than 15 minutes.
5.
Lie down to feel the heat radiate equally through your
entire body. Sit up for the last two minutes to adapt
to being upright before you get up. This will prevent
your blood from rushing into your legs.
6.
Once you leave the sauna, go outside to get some
fresh air. Your body will need oxygen.
7.
Use a cold-water hose to gently cool down your body.
Alternatively, refresh with a cold shower or in a plunge
pool. Shower off the sweat before entering the icy pool.
People with high blood pressure should avoid the
plunge pool.
8.
Taking a warm footbath after cooling off will help the
heat work its way through your entire body, all the way
into your head.
9.
Repeated cold-water immersion will train your blood
vessels and make your body more resilient.
10. Finally, rest and give yourself time to rejuvenate.
11. For hygiene reasons, please put a towel on your lounger!
Sauna expert: Three times a week our sauna master will be
there to help you maximise your sauna experience.
Using a sauna is generally considered to be very
healthy. However, people with certain health issues
should avoid saunas.

Powerful remedies from the womb of
Mother Nature
Tyrolean Stone Oil is produced from local shale originating over
180 million years ago. In the Early Jurassic “Lias” epoch these fossil sediment layers were created from maritime sediments
from the Tethys Ocean. When the Bächental Valley in the Karwendel Mountains near the Achensee Lake in Tyrol was formed,
these layers were thrust up to 1800 metres above sea level.
What makes this shale special is its large oil content of 4-6% along
with active ingredients from early maritime animals and plants. Tyrolean Stone Oil is very high in natural bonded sulphur, which is highly
soothing for people and animals. It is used for mild skin and hair care
products and as a traditional household remedy to treat musculoskeletal pain and rheumatic disorders.
Tiroler Steinöl® Vitalberg
Visit the Vitalberg visitor centre in Pertisau to learn about the
origin, significance and use of Tyrolean Stone Oil and explore the history of this small family business in the Karwendel
Mountains.
Museum: open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Renowned doctors, naturopaths and numerous satisfied customers
have confirmed the oil’s healing properties.
Tyrolean Stone Oil production
In 1902 Martin Albrecht senior, a passionate mineral collector stumbled upon some dark brown rocks near Geisalm on Achensee Lake
and immediately identified them as oil shale. With rudimentary tools
he started to mine the shale and produce the first Tyrolean Stone Oil.
As shale deposits in that area were limited, Martin Albrecht kept
searching and, in 1908, found abundant shale deposits in a remote
side valley of the Karwendel Mountains on an altitude of 1440 metres.
Many years and two generations later, his family is managing
the business with modern equipment but in the spirit of their
ancestors. The oil shale is mined from the surface and heated
in a shaft furnace. The heat softens the oil and turns it into milky white steam, which is withdrawn by suction. The steam is
then cooled and deposited as stone oil in condensation towers.
In the family’s refinery in Jenbach, the stone oil is processed into an
untreated product, consistently undergoing stringent quality controls in
the company’s own laboratory.
Tyrolean Stone Oil products can be purchased at our
hotel. Please consult our team at the reception and in
the spa for details.

Run well.
Feel well.
Everybody can run. Start now!
HOW DO YOU BEGIN?
Every body is different, and there is no universal formula for the
ideal speed or heart rate. Nevertheless, there is a simple rule
of thumb: “Smile and breathe. Just don’t wheeze.” as former
marathon runner Herbert Steffny puts it. Steffny came in third
in the European Championships in 1986 and now works as a
trainer and a coach.
The key to getting it right is starting out slowly. Begin with one
to three minutes of jogging followed by one-to-three-minute walking intervals. Gradually increase the jogging intervals. Overall you should spend about half an hour every other day on
your workout.
HOW DO YOU AVOID MISTAKES?
One of the most common mistakes is that people overestimate
themselves.
We’ve put together a few tips for you.
•
Everybody can run, but it’s easy to overdo it. Start out slowly
and increase your level consistently.
•
•
Don’t run on a full stomach and make sure you’ve had
enough to drink.
•
•
Important: Don’t zoom off, only finding yourself having to
stop out of breath after 200 metres. Start out at a slow and
even pace and remember to breathe deeply.
•
Avoid large steps. Big steps are more strenuous and harder
on your joints. Don’t scurry either.
•
As long as you can speak and have a conversation you
know that you are running at the right pace. You won’t enjoy
running if you start out too aggressively and end up having
to walk again because you’ve got a stitch. Check your speed
by talking to yourself.
•
Exhaling consciously will help you inhale and get the oxygen
supply you need. Avoid forcing your breath.
•
Don’t let other runners or the music you’re listening to determine your pace.
•
Rather than keeping track of the amount of steps you take per
minute – as some literature suggests – focus on moving
consciously and concentrate on the path.
•
Whether you touch down on the heel or the middle foot or
even the front foot is something you can control individually
and does not have any direct health impact on your body.
Sprinters generally tend to touch down on the front foot while
long distance runners tend to use their heel more.
Your arms should be bent and swing next to – not in front of
– your body. Your upper and lower arms should be more or
less at a right angle.
Find your ideal step length. If your steps are too short
(scurrying), they will be ineffective and look a bit awkward.
If they are too long, they will actually slow you down.
Here’s an important guideline:
Reduce your step length when you’re running downhill. This
will avoid pounding and take away stress from your knees
and joints. The longer your steps and the steeper the hill, the
more stress you will feel. Pounding substantially increases the
weight on your knees and joints.
•
When it comes to posture, make sure you align your legs,
pelvis and shoulders. Avoid a hollow back, as this will cause
back pain. Don’t lean forwards too much either. When your
right foot moves forwards, move your hip forwards with it.
•
Avoid being tense when you run. If your hands form a fist,
there is too much tension in your hands but also in your neck
and back. Open your hands a bit and gently let your thumbs
rest on your index fingers.
•
Try to run upright while focusing on the path ahead with
your line of sight. That way you can anticipate obstacles such
as bumps and roots and adjust your steps accordingly.
The Achensee region offers
numerous beautiful runs
to choose from.

along the promenade to your starting point.

WATER
How to drink it!
Are you dealing with fatigue, inertia
or a lack of concentration?
You might be suffering from dehydration. Try to remember
how much you drank yesterday. Be aware that you never feel
the effect of drinking too little until one day later. So if you
didn’t drink enough yesterday, you will feel the consequences
today. If you don’t drink enough today, ...
To stay fresh and fit,
use the following simple rule of thumb:
Try to drink a minimum of one and a half litres spread out over
the course of the day. If you need to use a bathroom within
20 minutes after drinking, you’ve been drinking too much at
once. This may rinse your kidneys, but it won’t refresh you.
Did you know?
Which butter is best for you?
How can you cut back on fats?
Try to buy butter from cows raised on mountain pastures. This
kind of butter is known as Almbutter in Austria and contains
plenty of healthy unsaturated fatty acids and natural vitamins.
Almbutter will last in your freezer for up to a year. If Almbutter is not available where you live, use butter from animals
living in higher regions that feed on grass and don’t rely on
concentrate feed. Healthy butter has a yellow-orange colour
and a special consistency. It always remains soft enough to
be spread on a slice of bread, even when you take it straight
from the fridge. The yellow colour of the Almbutter is often
confused with the colour of rancid butter. It is easy to tell them
apart, though. Rancid butter is only yellow on the outside,
while Almbutter has a natural yellow colour everywhere. If regular butter has gone really bad it can be yellow on the inside
as well, but is easily recognized by its rancid smell.
Roast nuts and seeds in the oven at 180°C without oil or butter
until you smell the roasted aromas. Roasting will bring out
their flavour and will let you substitute some of the fatty nuts
with breadcrumbs or finely ground sugar-free muesli without
compromising on taste.
Butter tends to be hard and white when it comes from factory
farming. Try to avoid this kind of unhealthy butter. Various types of butter with added ingredients such as yoghurt or oil are
generally not beneficial to your health either, as they usually
contain factory-farm butter.
Do not grease your pans but use silicone-backing dishes
instead, as they usually don’t require greasing. Use parchment paper to line regular baking pans. We recommend ecofriendly reusable parchment paper. Experiments have shown
that greasing your pan can add up to 500 kcal, the equivalent of an entire chocolate bar. The grease will disappear
in your backing pan and be soaked up by the cake, which
leaves it with an extra 500 kcal for you to eat.
A healthy choice
Add one teaspoon of native wheat germ oil to your salads,
vegetables or fruit dishes. Never eat it by itself, as it needs
foods rich in vitamin C like fruit, vegetables, salads or fresh
herbs to fully release its benefits.
Would you have guessed?
Did you know that beans are wonderful for your digestion?
The fibre contained in beans will “cleanse” your intestine. Add
a shot of vinegar to your bean dishes to make them easier to
digest. Caraway will decrease gas and promote digestion.
MOON & BEAUTY
The power of the moon
The effects of the moon on our environment are manifold.
We can use the power of the moon in various areas of our
lives.
Why not use it for body care? Our hair and skin will benefit enormously if we know how to plan around the moon
phases.
Moon phases -
Wellness & Fitness
Purifying: waning moon – Ideal for purifying and detoxifying.
Fasting: new moon – We recommend introducing a monthly
fasting day during the new moon!
Footbaths: the moon in Pisces – Your feet are highly sensitive
and will enjoy a little pampering.
Sauna/steam room: waning moon – Wonderful for wellness
and detox treatments.
Relaxation: waning moon – Yoga and other relaxation methods
will be especially effective.
Fitness: waning moon – The best time for implementing your
fitness resolutions. Sign up for a gym or integrate a
morning workout into your daily routine. You are most
likely to be successful to do so now.
Moon phases -
Beauty
Facial and
hair masks: waxing moon, the moon in Gemini – Extra care
will be absorbed particularly well.
Perms: full moon, the moon in Virgo – Hair will curl beautifully.
Hair colouring: full moon – Hair will absorb colours better.
Haircuts: the moon in Leo and Virgo – Ideal time to visit your
hairdresser.
Nail care: waning moon, the moon in Capricorn – Nails will
become more resistant.
Cellulite: waning moon, the moon in Sagittarius and Scales –
Your skin’s metabolism works best during this time. Treat
yourself to an invigorating brush massage, alternating
hot-cold showers and workout sessions for your backside, belly and thighs. Once the moon is waxing, try to
eat foods rich in vitamins and minerals to strengthen
your connective tissue.
Skin cleansing: waning moon – Fight skin impurities successfully
during this time. Facial steams, hot facial masks
and peelings will cleanse your pores.
Skin care: the moon in Capricorn – Anything you do for your
complexion during this time will be particularly
effective.
Hair removal: new moon – As hair growth tends to be slower
and thinner during the new moon, now is a good
time for eyebrow shaping and hair removal on
your legs and bikini area.
Celtic Tree Astrology
Celtic tree astrology is based on the ancient idea that the time of our births is pivotal to the formation of our personality and behaviour. Living in
harmony with nature, the Celts recognized that a child born within a certain season would develop certain qualities in line with the likeness and
personality of a specific tree. Based on this knowledge, the system of Celtic tree astrology was developed and is still used today.
