Welcome Week - The Ohio State University
The Ohio State University
GO BUCKS
welcomeweek.osu.edu
The Ohio State University is rich with traditions,
some of which date all the way back 1870 when the
University was founded. Those traditions include
Buckeye pride and a sense of community that can
only be understood by fellow Ohio State students.
With those traditions also comes the innovation of
tomorrow. During this academic year, Ohio State
will be welcoming students into the newly updated
Thompson Library as well as the new Ohio Union!
Enjoy this look back into the past, as well as a glance
into the future as Tradition Welcomes Tomorrow!
The Ohio Union closed
its doors for demolition
and reconstruction in
2007. The New Ohio
Union will be opening
in the spring!
This sign hung in the
old Ohio Union when it
opened in 1951.
The first Ohio State
football team posing in
1890 and the current
team entering with
Coach Jim Tressel.
A much different looking
Brutus used to pump up
the crowds at Ohio State
football games in 1965.
The Incomparable Script
Ohio is one of the most
beloved traditions in
college football history.
It was first performed on
October 10, 1936.
The Thompson Library
in 1913, and the newly
renovated library now.
The dedication of the
building will be Thursday
during Welcome Week.
Though the buildings
around it have changed
and been updated, the
aerial view of the Oval
remains quite similar to
the one pictured here in
in 1940.

Hailed by many as the worst director
ever, and celebrated posthumously for his
cinematic ineptitude, Ed Wood still gets an ‘A’
for effort with such classic clunkers as Plan
9 from Outer Space and Glen or Glenda. Tim
Burton’s affectionate portrait stars Johnny
Depp as the quixotic director, and covers his
golden years when he provided screen icon
Bela Lugosi with his final roles. Also with
Martin Landau, Bill Murray, Sarah Jessica
Parker, and Patricia Arquette.
