Building Saints: Behavioral Medicine Renovations Renovations to St. Anthony’s Behavioral Medicine Center have been underway since 2009 and we are happy to report that the first phase is complete! The lobby and the first patient units were completed just after the new year. The kids have already moved in and love their new space. Completed renovations include interior updates like paint and floors, new furnishings, updated common areas, including lighting and televisions and a warm and welcoming lobby to greet patients and their families. Work now begins on the remaining seven patient units. Improvements are part of the $9 million renovation to the Behavioral Medicine Center. The Hospital is providing $7.5 million for the renovation costs. The Foundation is raising $1.5 million for furnishings, playground and gym improvement and the addition of the Saints Learning Academy Computer Lab and Resource Center. We tremendously appreciate the donations we have received to date – nearly $1 million. This support has truly transformed the environment for our children and adolescent patients. above: A common area, like this one, will be in each patient unit, giving the kids a place to rest, relax and unwind. The awards are given to organizations that demonstrate high standards of excellence worthy of recognition in Oklahoma. SSMHC of Oklahoma includes St. Anthony Hospital, Bone and Joint Hospital at St. Anthony and Saints Medical Group. The hospitals and medical group are patient-focused and committed to continuous quality improvement, with patient safety their highest priority. “We are extremely pleased to be recognized by the prestigious Oklahoma Quality Award Foundation,” said Chris Howard, regional president of SSM of Oklahoma and system vice president. “The honor is a testament to the work accomplished daily by our staff and physicians in their quest to continuously improve our processes and strive for excellence.” “This is a wonderful honor,” said Sister Mary Jean Ryan, Chair and CEO of SSM Health Care. “It recognizes the commitment of SSM Health Care of Oklahoma to provide exceptional health care for the people we serve.” Said Gov. ANTHONY FOU N DATION Saints Ball: Cirque du Saints Foundation Donors: Building Saints 2010 Year in Review 2010 was a great year for the Foundation, and for St. Anthony Hospital. Foundation donors continued to play a fundamental role in the growth and renovation of Saints, and well as the exceptional health care we provide. Thank you for your gracious support of St. Anthony! Total Foundation Funds Given to St. Anthony Hospital in 2010 $1,196,545.35 Area of Greatest Need $325,843 Event co-chairs Joan and Rod Frates arrive at the Saints Ball T he Foundation’s signature fundraising event, Saints Ball, proved to be a record-breaking night for the Foundation. More than 400 guests attended the November event at the Skirvin. Patrons enjoyed the Cirque du Saints theme, bright colors and the silent and live auctions. The music of Souled Out kept everyone swinging around the dance floor. In all, the event netted more than $234,000 for the Foundation. These funds will continue to support the medical programs and patient care that distinguishes St. Anthony as one of Oklahoma’s premier hospitals. $50 Heart Scans: One Life-Saving Choice B efore a heart attack strikes, call upon the most trusted experts in Oklahoma. Success for Saints Babies O n March 3rd, nearly 200 guests joined the Foundation for our new event, Saints Babies. The luncheon was a celebration of the 160,000 babies born at St. Anthony, and all proceeds benefited our birth center, Joyful Beginnings. Guest speaker Malaak Compton-Rock, delivered an inspirational message about philanthropy in your own community. She shared the story of her “Journey to Change” mission to South Africa, which took a group of at-risk youth from Brooklyn to South Africa to broaden their horizons and put their own lives in perspective. Each day, these youth provided food, clothing and necessities to the poverty and AIDS-stricken shantytowns. Once back in Brooklyn, the youth served as “global ambassadors” for a year by sharing their South Africa experience. Compton-Rock hopes these youth will be empowered in their own lives while inspiring those around them by living a life of purpose and service. She encouraged guests to find their own ways to live a meaningful life and to support their communities. Inspired by Compton-Rock and by the needs to support the moms and babies in Joyful Beginnings, guests at the luncheon helped us raise more than $36,000. The funds will be used to purchase a new Giraffe Warmer for Joyful Beginnings. These special beds keep newborns warm and comfortable while supporting their development. The bed’s design and features allow the staff to monitor vital signs and support the baby’s needs in the room, giving more time for family bonding. The ultimate goal is to have a giraffe warmer in each patient room. The Foundation extends a big thank you to all those who came to Saints Babies and helped make the event a success for our smallest patients.
