Javad Najmeddin, IKCO CEO presented a technical report on Runna, the related project and production lines as well as IKCO’s future plans about the car and its target markets. Runna, Second IKCO-brand Car Runna is second IKCO-brand car designed to improve IKCO brand and platforms. Runna conforms to the latest global standard requirements governing emission, safety, powertrain, durability and quality of parts. Market studies show that most Iranian car buyers look for C-class sedans, i.e. mid-size family cars. Runna is the first IKCO-brand car in segment C. It is one of IKCO’s most inexpensive products. Runna is outfitted with driver and front passenger airbags, ABS with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), 5 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 unna Production Line four-wheel disc brake system, air conditioner, front power windows, electric wing mirrors, immobilizer and remote control. Runna is expected to cover a broad part of IKCO’s domestic and international target markets. It will be produced in nine different types. Trying to attain the objectives like increasing the company share profit and price, improving IKCO market share and maintaining the customers’ trust, maximum use of existing investments in production lines, improving global sales as well as creating competitive advantage for IKCO brand in target markets motivated the company to design and develop Runna. Realization of Iranian Capabilities Iran Khodro Industrial Dies (IKID) designed and developed body dies for Runna. Prior to this, only Japan, U.S., South Korea and some European countries were enjoying heavy car body dies design and development technology. This movement brought about a 10 million Euro exchange saving. TAM Iran Khodro undertook process of design, development, installation and launch of Runna production line. The process took 21,000 manhours including equipment design, installations, development of control systems and robotic cells and integration of the production line. Runna will enter mass production in June, 2012. IKCO aims to produce one million sets of Runna in domestic and foreign production plants in seven years. The car will be presented in local and international target markets like Turkey, Iraq, Russia, Ukraine, etc. Currently IKCO is 90 percent self- reliant in production of Runna and aims to achieve 100 percent self-reliance in the second half of the year. Runna enjoys either an 1.6L gasoline engine or one of 1.4L, 1.5L and 1.7L IKCO diesel engines that will recieve a manual and automatic transmission system. Runna is the first Iranian car that meets requirements for Pedestrian Impact and conforms to Euro IV standards. 6 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 Int’l Cooperation Michel Rocard: We Welcome Improved PeugeotIKCO Ties In a visit to IKCO former French Prime Minister Michel Rocard claimed, the technology applied in IKCO is acceptable and that this company moves toward globalization. He also added, “I don’t believe the seven percent share of Peugeot Company purchased by GM would affect Peugeot-IKCO business.” The former French PM asserted that the two companies technically had no problem and they would keep on developing existing ties. Referring to the recent presidential election in his country, Rocard said, “France will remain supportive of its partners in the negotiations between Iran and the group of 5+1 in Baghdad.” “I hope the upcoming negotiations will secure trust between the two parties, leading to an end to the sanctions imposed on Iran,” noted the former PM and added, “I will also discuss the barriers between the two countries in France’s new government and will try to resolve them.” During this visit Javad Najemdin - IKCO CEO - cited the 22-year strategic collaboration of Peugeot and IKCO, mentioning that about %70 of IKCO production belongs to Peugeot brand cars, however, major localization of parts has cut back IKCO’s foreign exchange dependency. “IKCO can now design and develop its own cars, three of which are Samand, Runna and Dena sedans,” IKCO CEO stated. In the meantime, IKCO vicepresident in quality and product development reported on new product development and the company’s plan on export. 7 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 30 Thousand Cars for Iraq IKCO will produce 30 thousand cars, mainly Samand, in Iraq this year. Javad Najmeddin, IKCO CEO said that more than three thousand cars have been produced in Iraq since the beginning of IKCO activity in this country. IKCO production plant ran its activity in Iraq in early 2011 and dispatched 8000 cars to Iraq in the same year. The production capacity of this plant is 30 thousand cars a year. IKCO agent in Iraq is the investor of this production site. IKCO transfers SKD (Semi Knock Down) parts and coated car bodies to the plant. IKCO runs more than 30 after-sales service centers in Iraq. These centers provide services in Iraq’s main cities like Baghdad, Najaf, Karbala, Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Kirkuk. This plant is currently assembling SKD parts. The parties aim to sign a contract to transfer required technology and establish needed equipment to upgrade the level of production. IKCO exported about $400 million worth of cars to Iraq in 2010 and 2011, while establishing new production lines in IKCO plant in Iraq would lead to the production of other cars like Runna in that site 8 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 Production IKCO to Boost Daily Production to 3000 Iran Khodro Industrial Group is shooting for producing 820 thousand cars this year. According to Hossein Najari, the company’s Vicepresident in production, IKCO currently produces 2500 units of different types of cars every day. Najari stated, “The company is all set to increase production and as soon as Runna mass production triggers, total daily production of the company would run up to three thousand cars.” Self-sufficiency in manufacturing parts and components resolves any concern on supplying parts for production lines. IKCO has built 56,900 passenger cars and commercial vehicles since the beginning of this year. IKD, IKCO heavy vehicle manufacturer, has produced 443 different commercial vehicles in this period. The Vice-president finally restated that in order to meet markets’ demand, IKCO also aims to raise Tondar 90 production to 250 units a day. Markets to W 50,000 IKCO Runna The second IKCO designed car is to enter mass production in late May. Javad Najmeddin, IKCO CEO in this regard said, “We have planned to produce 50 thousand sets of Runna sedans this year and the figure could run up to 200 thousand a year.” IKCO will market Runna facelift afterwards. This sedan is going to be powered by TU5 and EF7 engines that meet Euro IV standard requirements and would be available with diesel engines later on. However, dual-fuel engine is another option for Runna that would lie under its hood. IKCO Runna enjoys front seat airbags and ABS and meets the required safety standards for driver and passengers, covering the European pedestrian impact 9 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 900 Thousand Fuel Welcome Efficient Engines by IKCO a This Year safety standard as long as the standard has been instituted and introduced in Europe. Mir Javad Soleimani, the company’s Vice-president in quality and product in this regard said, “Following the government›s policy to optimize vehicles› fuel consumption in the country, fuel efficient engine production became a part of IKCO’s agenda.” Soleimani referred to his company’s determination to increase production of IKCO engines and said, “IKCO produced 70 thousand sets of its own engines last year and aims to increase this amount to 180 thousand sets this year; seventy percent of these engines are going to come in CNG-based form.” Localization of cylinder block and cylinder head for IKCO engines will enable the company to produce 700 sets of self-developed engines a day. Soleimai says that IKCO is 90 percent self-sufficient in producing TU5 fuel efficient engines. IKCO and SAPCO are cooperating to reach 100 percent of self-sufficiency in this field. TU5 and EF7 are fuel efficient engines. Following the rationalization of subsidies plan in Iran, IKCO announced that it would outfit most of its cars with these two engines. This plan cuts fuel subsidies and encourages customers to go for cars with lower fuel economy. The intellectual property of EF7 engine belongs to IKCO. It comes in CNG based, turbocharged, gasoline and diesel types. 10 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 Production IKCO to produce Diesel Tondar 90 IKCO is going to commercialize diesel Tondar 90 (Logan) by 2013. Mohammad Reza Motamed, IKCO Deputy CEO in Tondar production said, IKCO›s new approach to a cleaner environment has directed the company to reconsider its products fuel portfolio. Based on this approach IKCO has held talks with Renault Company, intending to start diesel Tondar 90 production in 2013, whether the two parties come to a conclusion. Automatic Tondar 90 sedan and Tondar 90 pickup are the other two products that will hit the market this year. Motamed finally reiterated, the company will also introduce Tondar 90 facelift to the market by 2013. Automatic Tondar 90 in Market Soon In order to meet customers› demand and gain an appropriate share in domestic and international markets, IKCO intends to produce and market automatic and facelift versions of Tondar 90 (Logan) sedan. Mohammad Reza Motamed, IKCO Deputy CEO in Tondar production in this regard said, “Automatic Tondar 90 project is running in IKCO and the car will hit the market by the yearend”. Iran domestic market warmly welcomed Tondar 90, thereby, IKCO is running other projects on Tondar 90 platform like Diesel Tondar 90 and Tondar pickup. 11 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 New Pickup on IKCO aims to satisfy domestic market needs for light commercial vehicles by introducing a new pickup built on Tondar 90 (Logan) platform. Mohammad Reza Motamed, IKCO Deputy CEO in Tondar production said, Tondar 90 pickup will be mass produced and will hit the market in September. IKCO plans to market 15 thousand Tondar pickups this year. Domestic market need for such a pickup as well as its high quality and specification can guarantee the future of this car. According to the Deputy CEO, IKCO and Renault Pars have come to an agreement to boost Tondar 90 production and the mass production of Tondar 90 pickup will increase Tondar 90›s daily production to 400 sets. IKCO plans to produce 80 thousand sets of Tondar 90 in different types this year. He also said that IKCO is going to increase Tondar 90›s daily production this year and added that IKCO and Renault Pars have come to an agreement for supplying needed parts and components. IKCO aims to produce 80 thousand units of Tondar 90 in different types this year. Tondar 90 Platform 12 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 Subsidiary Sanctions Ineffective on IKCO Aftermarket Rejecting rumors about lack of spare parts, Behzad Zahiri ISACO CEO - Sales and Aftersales Service Company of IKCO - said, “The Company faces no problem in order to supply spare parts for IKCO cars.” “Supplying parts from domestic sources and supporting domestic part producers are IKCO priorities,” said Zahiri and added, “we are determined to support and strengthen domestic part producers and supply IKCO with high quality and low cost domestic parts.” He also referred to the small share of foreign producers in ISACO supply chain and added that there was a seven percent decline in spare parts import last year that reduced foreign producers› share from 37 percent to 30 percent. ISACO intends to decrease this amount to 23 percent this year. Today Iran auto industry is potential enough to supply its needed parts by localization and from domestic sources and sanctions can’t affect IKCO activities satisfying aftermarket demands for its cars. Currently, 70 percent of IKCO needs for spare parts are met by domestic sources and the company plans to increase this amount to 77 percent by the end of this year. ISACO CEO finally stated, “The Company expects a bright and promising horizon this year and will try to provide best possible services for IKCO car owners.” 70% Satisf After-sa In the year of National Production, Supporting Iranian Capital and Labor, IKCO CEO announced the company’s strategic plans in after-sales service, customers’ satisfaction and spare parts market share development. Based on the company’s strategic plan in after-sales service for passenger cars, ISACO spare parts market share will increase from 50/5 percent to 56/5 percent this year. ISACO aims to achieve 55 percent of market share of guaranty and warranty services this year. This amount was 45/1 percent last year. Strategic plan for after-sales service notified to ISACO by Iran Khodro Industrial Group top management indicates that customers’ satisfaction of after- 13 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 ied with IKCO les Service sales service was 70 percent last year. The same plan estimates 10 percent betterment in the agents’ average scores compared with last year. In the meantime, the number of agents will increase from 850 to 865 this year. Original spare parts share within the network was 77 percent in 2011 that will run up to 85 percent this year. The strategic plan of IKCO clarifies that improvement of marketing, sales and after-sales service is one of company’s main objectives. IKCO’s other objectives are counted as long term profitability through income increase and cost management, products’ competitive quality and price in target markets as well as high quality services and customers’ satisfaction. IKCO Ready to Confront Sanctions ISACO CEO said the company is all ready to supply spare parts for IKCO cars in case Peugeot imposes sanctions on IKCO. In a press conference, Behzad Zahiri, the CEO of IKCO Sales and After-sales Service (ISACO) elaborated on the company’s plans and programs for this year emphasizing on customer satisfaction, increasing spare parts market share, broadening international markets and domestic sourcing of the network needs. He also said that IKCO has not yet received any official announcement from Peugeot indicating a halt in their mutual cooperation. ISACO spare part supply chalked up by 45 percent in 2011 compared to its previous year. The company is shooting for a 25% growth in supplying spare parts for IKCO cars this year. Currently 10 to 15 percent of spare parts required for IKCO cars are supplied by Peugeot. In case Peugeot stops spare part supply, the required parts could be easily replaced by domestic suppliers or suppliers from other countries. According to ISACO CEO, taking advantage of domestic production capabilities forms ISACO’s main agenda. In this regard, outsourcing parts that can be or right now are domestically produced is impermissible. Last year, 37 percent of the needed spare parts were globally outsourced and ISACO aims to reduce this amount to 23 percent. Iraq, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, Senegal, Algeria and Tunisia are the main target markets for ISACO, which intends to expand its international target market in 2011, exporting at least 10 million dollars worth of spare parts to global markets. 14 IKCO Vision Jun 2012 Event Runna Lustrous Amid Global Runna, second IKCO - brand car was exhibited at Kiev Motor Show amongst cars from global carmakers, catching visitors’ eyes.
