One of the exhibition’s officials stated at the opening ceremony that Russia intends to promote Interauto to the biggest automotive event in Europe. IKCO Stand In order to resume its active presence in CIS 5 IKCO Vision Sep/Oct 2011 Special Report markets and particularly Russia’s market, IKCO as the only participant from Iran demonstrated its two latest products, Dena and Runna sedans. These two cars were accompanied by Soren ELX sedan powered by the turbocharged EF7 engine and also Samand LX sedan supplied by TU5 engine. Emphasizing achievements regarding powertrain improvements, IKCO displayed EFD diesel engine, which is designed and manufactured by Iran Khodro Powertain Co. (IPCO). 6 IKCO Vision Sep/Oct 2011 Russian Market In Russia you can see different types of cars from European countries, Japan and even the United States. In 2008, 11.7 million cars worth of 60 million dollars were sold in Russia. More than 80 percent of cars in Russia are less than five years old, most of them luxurious. Regarding the significant growth in Russian economy and its market’s demand for 2.5 million cars a year and targeting economy and family cars, IKCO would be able to gain a proper share in Russia’s car market. People in CIS countries have a good background of Samand that eases the presence of IKCO cars in this region. Experts believe that IKCO and Samand had experienced a successful presence in Russian market. Samand has served as police cars in some Russian cities. Regarding the fact that Russian market is familiar with Iranian Samand and knows it for its good quality, IKCO new products would be warmly welcomed by the Russians. Presence in a Market with Two Million Demands Paying a visit to IKCO stand at Interauto exhibition, Unison Director General, Dmitry Yegorov said, “Good quality and stylish design of IKCO products enables it to be present in Russian market.” Yegorov referred to the customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan as a good opportunity for companies like IKCO to act more easily in this region. The customs union contract between these three countries increases the region’s market demand to more than two million cars a year; an opportunity IKCO as the only participant from Iran demonstrated Dena, Runna, Soren ELX powered by the turbocharged EF7 engine and also Samand LX supplied by TU5 engine. to take the advantage of. Yegorov also believes that the presence in the region’s exhibitions will enable IKCO to introduce and present its cars. In Yegorov’s point of view, quality, attractive appearance and price are three main principles that carmakers should consider to enter global markets. He believes that IKCO cars exhibited in Interauto exhibition are capable to be presented in CIS region. Aftermarket Service in Russia ISACO, Iran Khodro After-sale Services Company, in line with Iran Khodro global sales, analyzes the quality of the company’s aftermarket in order to be able to organize and improve the performance of IKCO overseas aftermarket centers. Considering the importance of IKCO presence in international markets as one of the main concerns of the company’s management, Zahiri, ISACO CEO told the press in the 7th Moscow InterAuto Exhibition (Moscow International Motor Show) that his company would take action to let high quality parts and components flow in the aftermarkets, considering each market’s unique specifications. “Russia is one of our target markets for selling cars,” he declared and added, “this market is quite a potential one as long as there is a customs union between the three countries of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus and also the existing 40% tariff for car import will bring about a good opportunity for us to export Iranian cars to this region.” According to Zahiri, aftermarket services are costly in this region and this also gives the clue to ISACO to reorganize the existing aftermarket centers of the company and introduce new ones. ISACO CEO believes this can ignite a successful competition with other company’s aftermarket centers, leading IKCO to even present services to the owners of non-IKCO cars like Renault, 7 IKCO Vision Sep/Oct 2011 Production IKCO to Mass-produce Micro-hybrid Samand 8 IKCO Vision Sep/Oct 2011 IKCO is going to mass produce Micro-hybrid Samand in near future. The company’s CEO, Javad Najmeddin in this regard said, “Hybrid development is a part of IKCO’s approach toward modern technology to reduce fossil fuel consumption.” Hybrid car production is a part of IKCO’s strategy to confront the price rise of energy carriers following the Rationalization of Subsidies Plan in Iran. IKCO had previously heightened its CNG vehicles in this regard. Last year, 55 micro-hybrid Samands were produced, all of which passed different types of tests successfully. “Start-stop system is the main specification of micro-hybrid cars,” Najmeddin said and then referred to the battery, ignition system, instrument panel and the main harness as some other modified parts and components in micro-hybrid cars, emphasizing the installation of these parts on XU7 engine which will be used on EF7 engines later.” Najmeddin reiterated that micro-hybrid Samand shuts down at speeds lower than five kilometers per hour automatically. This is most advantageous for vehicles which spend significant amounts of time waiting at traffic lights or frequently come to a stop in traffic jams. Two sensors, one on the gearbox and the other on the booster, control stop-start process when stopping and stepping on the clutch to restart. The CEO finally underscored that IKCO has fulfilled all the related programs and activities and the company will mass produce this car in close future, while producing taxis that enjoy this system receives the main focus. I KC 18,000 Set IKCO has produced 9400 sets of Peugeot 207i since the beginning of this Iranian year. Mir Javad Soleymani, IKCO vice-president in Quality and Product Development claimed that this car was quite welcome in the market and added: “We have planned to produce 18,000 sets of this car by the yearend.” According to Soleymani, Peugeot 207i, the production of which reached 1800 sets in the same period last year, comes to the market in two types of automatic and mechanical gearboxes. “This car is considered as the lowest consumption car of its class in Iran’s market,” Soleymani said and added, “We have been up to improving our products’ portfolio and since last year the production of Peugeot 207i has hit this target, while this car’s global sale is on the agenda.” IKCO vice-president also referred to airbags for front seats, emergency fuel cut-off system and collapsible steering column in accidents as some of safety specifications of 207i.
