Garbage receptacles can trap loose garbage placed near the dumpsters underneath it. Thereby creating breeding grounds for pests. If you have a large item to dispose of, and no way of disposing it, please contact the office. Anyone who fails to do so will receive a fine. Snow reminder: If a state emergency is called please be mindful and stay inside if possible. When you shovel your car out of the parking spaces please place the snow on the lawn and not on the walkway or in the street. Doing so will create a hazardous situation for neighboring cars and residents. Upstairs owners/residents: please make sure to shovel balconies so that no damages occur. If you fail to do so, upstairs residents/owners will be held responsible for any damages that do occur. 2016 parking stickers should be on everyone's vehicles. If you still need yours please visit the office. Important Reminder Please bring your contact information to the office to ensure receipt of important community information and updates. Reminder For Cold Weather! Attorney Advertising We Help Sew Up All The Details In Your Annual Tax Appeal. A friendly but important reminder that as we approach the colder months, conserving heat is crucial to keeping the budget as low as possible. This is our largest annual expense, and reducing wasted heat will help keep common charges low. We’re urging all residents to work together as a community to conserve as much as possible this Autumn and Winter by doing the following: one is occupying your unit. • Keeping unit windows, hallway windows, and fire doors closed will reduce wasted heat. • Check for drafts around windows, patio doors, and entry doors. Using draft blockers (found at Bed Bath & Beyond or similar stores) can prevent heat from escaping through gaps. • It’s helpful to arrange furniture so that it doesn’t block the radiators, if possible. This will allow for proper heat distribution throughout your unit. • Checking your zone valves to ensure that they are working properly. These typically last about 10 years so if you haven’t changed your zone valve since then or aren’t sure if it needs to be changed, it’s best to test it now and perform any preventative maintenance before the heat is on full-time during the colder months. Please call the office if you would like to schedule the maintenance staff to check your zone valve for you. Common signs of a bad zone valve are if the heat is on constantly and cannot be regulated, or if there is no heat at all. It’s much more difficult to repair a zone valve in the wintertime because the heat needs to be shut off for the entire building and the hot water system fully drained before service can be performed, so we recommend preventative maintenance to avoid this scenario. February: month of Februa (Latin) Februarius had 28 days, circa 450 BC, until Julius Caesar decided some 2000 years ago that there would be a “leap year” every fourth year during which February would have 29 days instead of 28 days. (See the article on Leap Year for more information!) Februa is the Roman festival of purification, held on February 15th. It is possibly of Sabine origin. My life is so much better here than I thought it would be. Fuller. I use the computer every day, win at canasta, attend lectures, go shopping, or take in a show or concert. Everything I enjoy doing. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret weddings. For this, Valentine was jailed and executed. While in jail he wrote a note to the jailor's daughter signing it "from your Valentine". Serving Nassau & Suffolk County • In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine’s Day card. • About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. This makes it the second largest seasonal card sending time of the year • Many believe the X symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn't write their names signed in front of a witness with an X. The X was then kissed to show their sincerity. • In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression "to wear your heart on your sleeve." • In 1537, England's King Henry VII officially declared Feb. 14 the holiday of St. Valentine's Day. • Richard Cadbury produced the first box of chocolates for Valentine's Day in the late 1800s. • More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be sold for Valentine's Day. • 220,000 is the average number of wedding proposals on Valentine's Day each year.
