Community First Credit Union brings a new “smart” ATM to
Guerneville, relocates its River-area home loan office to Main Street.
In July of last year, Community First opened a mortgage loan office in
Guerneville to make borrowing more convenient for residents in West
County and River communities. In real estate lending, perhaps the most
relationship-driven component in financial services, it made sense to
establish an office where it had two well known, local-resident pros: Russ
Anger and Beth Rudometkin.
The experiment went well. So well, in fact, that Community First
relocated its mortgage loan office to a larger – and more professional –
space right on Main Street in Guerneville. It’s within the iconic,
bright-yellow Mercantile Building. Additionally, the credit union ramps
up its commitment to Guerneville with the installation (right outside its
mortgage office) of a “smart” ATM. Among other things, the new ATM
accepts deposits without using envelopes. Checks or cash – doesn’t matter.
Plus, depositors get a confidence-reassuring instant receipt that shows the
envelope-less deposit was credited to their account.
Community First officially unveiled its office and ATM to the local
business community Friday, Sept. 26th, 2008 at an invitation-only event at
the nearby garden area of the Sonoma Nesting Company.
Located at 16215 Main Street, inside the Mercantile.

September 6th and 7th Jazz Festival.
The Chamber acted as a concierge service promoting restaurants,
businesses and activities as well as fall and winter River events.
Thank you also to Omega Events for donating the booth space to the
Chamber and the opportunity to sell festival tickets at the Chamber

Up With Downtown Report
Now that summer is over and the dust has settled,
we can take a breather and enjoy our beautiful
community! Please take a few minutes and pick up the
litter around your businesses. Papers and worse have
a tendency to accumulate in the gutters and on the
sidewalks so look around and take care of it.
The old bridge and Plaza need cleaning up too. If
anyone is interested in doing a downtown fall clean
up, send an email to me at jbeach@sonic.net or call
869-2022.
There has been much concern lately about unsavory
activities on the Plaza, old bridge and Riverside Park.
The Sheriff’s Department has stepped up foot patrol
and hopefully this will deter the goings on. It is very
important to call dispatch if you see a crime or
disturbance in progress: 565-2121. Anyone wishing to
discuss this situation or any other downtown issues
are welcome to attend an UWDG committee
meeting. Please let me know and it will be put on the
agenda. Our meetings are the 4th Wednesday of
themonth at noon, place to be announced in this
newsletter.
Last but not least, consider running for the Board of
Directors. New faces, old faces, young faces are all
welcome! The Chamber is solvent so let’s keep this
momentum going…

Art Show @ Carport Gallery
Two California artists will be featured in the upcoming exhibit
“Pattern and Form” at the new Carport* Gallery, in Guerneville. The
gallery, owned by Fred Khodayari, had its grand opening in July, with
a group show of local and international artists. This second show, from
October 9 to November 15, will feature the work of glass artist Sue
Marek, of Forestville, and photographer Cindy Stokes, of Atherton.
The public is invited to an opening reception with the artists on
Thursday, October 9 from 6-9 PM.
The exhibit emphasizes the complementary nature of pattern and form in the work of the two artists. "In an
unexpected way, the bright colors and geometric designs of Marek's handcrafted glass vessels complement the
rich tones and patterns of Stokes' black-and-white photographs," says Khodayari.

President’s Message
Elections! Elections! The Country, County Supervisors and yes, Russian
River Chamber of Commerce! We have so much to think about at this
time including the economy and dare I mention Fall & Winter in the
Russian River area. Although many of our businesses do slow down in
the Winter, we do have much to offer for locals and visitors alike. Our
restaurants are great value for money, our stores are a delight and the
prices are reasonable. Of course, our wonderful Redwood Park is an all
season place to visit and the world class Russian River Wineries are
open all winter. Our lodgings give special rates in the winter months and
everything that we offer is certainly a bargain in today's challenging
times. Let's not forget our Golf people and relaxing Day Spas. So, shop,
eat and play close to home too! Lets all support each other and make a
difference!
In January 09, there is a big Travel Show in Santa Clara. The theme is
focusing on taking vacation closer to Home . Your Chamber has a booth
at this two day show and will be promoting our very special area. Over
8000 people attended last years show and far more are expected this
year. The Chamber will use its new Banner and will be using Lodging
prizes to draw visitors to our booth. We will be taking brochures, rack
cards etc., to display and hand out. There will be the usual charge of
$50 per business to help defray the cost of the booth with the Chamber
bearing most of the cost. We will be announcing details closer to the
time.
This year has seen a remarkable achievement by the Chamber Board and
staff. We practiced 'Back to Basics' and have a very healthy and workable
budget for the next 12 months. We are now able to focus on marketing
goals, some community projects and above all, helping members . We
ask that members contact the Chamber if help is needed to complete
business plans etc. The Chamber does not provide such business advice
but can help to find the advice needed. We do hope to provide some
business related talks or seminars during the winter months.
Drum roll please! It is with great pleasure that the Chamber Board announces that we have nominated someone from the Russian River area
for a Spirit of Sonoma Award. The award will be presented at a lunch at
the Doubletree in Rohnert Park in December. Diana Nolan, Community
Services Officer at Guerneville Sheriffs Sub Station will receive the
award for our area. There will be a full press release later this year but
we are so pleased to announce the choice at this time . Diana has
worked above and beyond the scope of her job and although she does
not live in the River area , she puts her heart, soul, and personal time
into our community. The Chamber is already in the process of filling two
tables for the Award event and will also consider a special local celebration for those unable to attend the lunch on Dec 5th.
Finally- please don't miss out on the Chamber mixers! Come along, do
some networking and above all- enjoy!
Sincerely,
Margaret Kennett
