LOVE IS LOUDER. . .
Historically, Glen Este has focused their bullying prevention
efforts on the bullies themselves, which required GE to spend a
good deal of time on the “negative” messages of bullying. The
staff here at GE believe that this time they should focus on the
“positive.” As a result, the staff of Glen Este High School is
supporting the “Love is Louder” Campaign. The “rock concert”
style event will be multimedia interactive, which means Glen
Este High School is asking you to bring your cell phones to the
event! You will be asked to text in response to a poll within the
event, although, if you do not have unlimited texting, you are
not obligated to do so. The “Love is Louder” Campaign promises to be a fun, interactive, and inspiring program, a program
we all should be grateful to be a part of.

Since the dawn of time people have debated the meaning of love. Wars have been fought, riots have erupted, and people have
died due to the ever-growing controversies concerning the baffling concept of love. Many also debate whether or not love is unconditional, which entitles everyone the right to be loved, no matter who they are, or their background. Some races and religions believe other races and religions are not worthy of love. Some people deny love and compassion to criminals, because of their mistakes. There are so many different theories and opinions regarding love. William Shakespeare, who is credited as one of the greatest romantic poets in history wrote, “Love is blind”, but if you were to speak to a couple who has been madly in love for decades,
they might insist ‘it was love at first sight.’
In my opinion, there is not one sole meaning for love, love is defined by one’s personal beliefs and values, but should be unconditional. Many people cannot find the strength within themselves’ to love their self or others, but that does not mean they do not
deserve to be loved.
Love is not only shared by lovers and families, it can take many forms. Love could be a bond between an animal and its owner,
or the light summer breeze drifting in the moonlight. Love can be passion, but not only the heart-throbbing, eager, and spellbinding
kisses exchanged by star-crossed lovers, in romance novels. Passion can be a cause or ideal someone is willing to fight for, or a
sport or activity someone enjoys.
Love is not fully understood; but it isn’t meant to be understood. Love is something bigger and better than ourselves; it’s a force
stronger than gravity. Love will never be comprehended, but also never questioned about its cunning power to influence lives’.
That’s why people yearn for it as they do, it’s an explicable experience that cannot be bought or packaged. It’s a connection between the heart and soul that is impossible to mimic.
Some people wait years for love to find them, and then give up hope that they will ever experience it. Others have lost love, and
fear that its glistening spark will never return to their hearts again. This is not always true, love has a way of drifting with the wind,
or following the riptide, it can end up any where sudden and abruptly. Even if it only stays for a short while, its impact on a person is
endless. Love is more than cards and candy, more than a relationship, more than a feeling; love is an energy that will light lives for
generations.

adapted as Hello, Dolly!, which
began in 1963 and ran for years
and ranked as one of Broadway’s
longest running musicals.

February 14 is the one day out of the year to celebrate
the love between two people, to recognize and to appreciate the relationship you may share with someone else. A lot
of people lose sight of how blessed they are to be happy
and in a relationship with someone and they lose attention
of that special bond holding their relationship together.
Valentines Day comes around once a year to help remind
them and get their sight back on track of how lucky they are
to have found love. There are many people in this world that are alone and full
of love to give but have no one to give it to. Valentines Day brings hope and
inspiration to those souls looking for someone to share their life with.
Valentines Day is not a day to celebrate the person you love, but to celebrate the love you have for that person. It is to recognize that of all the billions
of people in the world, of all the places in the world, and all the moments flying
by never to be recovered, you, and that special other, are together, against all
odds.
Many people believe that Valentines Day is overrated because it is a
“commercial holiday” that doesn’t celebrate anything particularly of any special
meaning and is used just for gift giving and more spending. While the gift giving is always nice, it is not necessary. You do not have to buy someone something to express your love for them or to let them know how much they mean
to you. People simply resort to buying gifts because it is the easy and simple
way of doing so. Other people, who really recognize and embrace the love they
have for someone, usually go that extra mile and do something extremely
thoughtful and from the heart.
Many people say that you should show the person you love how much you
care everyday, not just once a year. While I agree with this statement, I also
feel that it is important to set one day aside, dedicated to celebrating one of
the most controversial aspect of this world, love. On Valentines Day, you
should dedicate the entire day to this feeling. Be thankful that you found it.
Everybody wants love, or has at one point in their life, but not every body is
able to find it and keep a hold on it.
From personal experience, I know Valentines Day gives me hope that
someday I will be able to find that long awaited love that everyone wants and
that I will be able to have a Valentine on the one day of a year dedicated to the
most powerful force in the universe.
I want to wish a happy Valentines Day to everyone, whether you are alone
or not, remember, there is love out there, you just got to find it!

What was once a holiday about love and affection is now a
superficial celebration run by commercialism and the business industry pressuring us to purchase gifts to “show our
love” with pointless items we don’t need nor want. These
items don’t show love since it’s now a social ritual to buy
roses, chocolates, and cards where they are now above and
beyond cliché. Plus these gifts are only guilt-ridden ways to
show their “love” for another. There is enough pressure on
today’s couples without having to live up to an ideal romantic
adventure on this one day; and why only this one day? If couples
truly loved each other shouldn’t they be practicing similar habits like
this everyday of their own volition and not because of an industry
profiting holiday? Many think that a more appropriate day, if any
single day, to buy futile gifts such as these should be on the couple’s anniversary, rather than a random day with no significant
meaning. Even most of those people believe that couples should
always say “I love you” and show their love for one another everyday, and not on a commercialized holiday.
I personally agree with those believing that Valentines Day is
overrated. Valentines day is a pointless holiday; especially since
there are more single people in the world than couples, so why
have a holiday for the minority love group? Valentines Day originated back in Early Rome, when a priest named St. Valentine defied
the mighty Emperor Claudius II. Claudius believed that single men,
not distracted with love, made better soldiers than those with wives
and families who would be distracted from their duties, so Claudius
outlawed marriage of young men. Valentine believed this to be
wrong and would secretly marry young lovers. Claudius discovered
Valentines betrayal and had Valentine put to death. How did a day
dedicated to a true hero of love become a day run by social media
and commercialized industries? Valentines Day is extremely overrated and should not be celebrated only to say “I love you” to your
significant other. People should share these feelings with each
other on a daily basis, and not buy senseless items to show your
affection for another. If people are going to buy gifts for their loved
ones, should they use gifts made from the heart anyway, and not
cliché items such as chocolates and flowers? Valentines Day is a
nuisance that is glorified only by the industrial tyrants of the world
and should not be celebrated.

CUPID’S ARROW
Cupid is known to all as the symbol of Love, and coincides with St. Valentine’s Day, but do
we know why or how he came to be?
Cupid, son of Venus and Mars, is the God of love in Roman Mythology. Cupid is derived
from the Latin word, “cupido” which means “desire.” Some myths claim that Cupid hatched
from a silver egg. Cupid is often depicted as a baby with wings wearing nothing but a diaper,
equipped with a bow and a quiver of golden arrows. The tips of the arrows are heart-shaped.
Cupid shoots these arrows at lonely or unsuspecting people and when they hit, the individual
falls deeply in love with the next person they rest their eyes on.
It seems quite obvious why Cupid is St. Valentine’s Day’s mascot, but their can be flaws to
his method of love manipulation. What if Cupid were to shoot someone whose eyes rested
upon a man or woman who was in any sort of relationship? Cupid has been known to have
split personalities. In addition to his golden arrows, Cupid carries lead-tipped arrows that
cause its victims to succumb to hatred. Cupid may be known for creating Love, but the fact
that he is the one responsible for creating Chaos should not be neglected.
Cupid is always watching, ready to play with any old heart that comes along. The next
time a friend says, “it is love at first sight,” educate them on the history of Cupid. Perhaps
they were struck by his golden arrows.

Everyone knows what Valentine’s Day is, and what day it’s celebrated on, but
not everyone knows the long history and specific facts about modern Valentine’s
Day celebrations and festivities. Here are some fun facts about the holiday celebrated worldwide on February 14th:
-15% of U.S women buy flowers for themselves.
-About 3% of pet owners will buy gifts for their pets on Valentine’s Day.
The Story of St. Valentine
Every year on February 14th there is one holiday that all couples
love and it is called St. Valentine’s Day. Flowers, candy, chocolates,
and many other gifts are presented to one’s true love. Valentine’s
Day did not originate to celebrate just one love; it originated as a
tribute to St. Valentine, a catholic bishop, who died over 1,700 years
ago on February 14, 268 AD. Valentine was a priest who disobeyed
orders of the Roman Emperor, Claudius II, and continued to perform
marriages. It seems that Claudius, desperate to build up the strength
of his armies, came to the realization that young men did not want to
join his army because they didn’t want to leave their wives and lovers. In response to this Claudius outlawed marriage for men of a
certain age group. The priest, Valentine, was considerate to all the
young lovers that were unable to marry and began marrying the
couples in secret. When it was discovered that Valentine was still
performing marriages, Claudius was outraged and Valentine was
sentenced to death. On this day we still celebrate Valentine’s Day
thanks to the Roman Priest.
In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honor St.
Valentine, who became known as the patron saint of lovers. The date
is marked for exchanging love messages, poems, and simple gifts
such as flowers and sweets.

-Cupid, who is seemingly the mascot of Valentine’s Day, was the Roman god of
love.
-Each year around 1 billion Valentine cards are sent. After Christmas, this is the
single largest seasonal card-sending occasion.
-Children between ages 6 to 10 give more than 650 million Valentine’s cards to
their teachers, classmates, and family members.
-2.2 million marriages take place in the United States annually. This means there
are approximately 6,000 marriages per day.

In some countries in past years, a young woman may receive a
gift of clothing from a young man. If she keeps the gift, it means she
will marry him.
Some people used to believe that if a woman saw a specific bird
her fate was established. If she saw a robin flying overhead on
Valentine’s Day, it meant she would marry a sailor; if she saw a
sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy; and if she
saw a goldfinch, she would marry a millionaire.

A VISIT WITH VATER...
The month of February is full of romance, love and the idea of special valentines. What more could you ask
for during the cold wintry month of February than to curl up with a good book, in a warm blanket, and drift
away into the pages of passion and delight. Our librarian, Mrs. Vater, is staying with the theme of romance and
love. Listed below are her recommendations for February reads….
Mrs. Vater is recommending a few titles and giving brief descriptions along with them. Her number one pick
is Charles and Emma; the Darwin’s Leap of Faith by Deborah Heiligman. It’s a story of a “great love,” Charles
and Emma were together for 42 years until their fatal parting. If you enjoy science and romance all in the
same, this book is for you. Despite this unusual couple having different views they magically are drawn together and thrive. Charles, being a well know scientist, makes up a list of often and very honest pro’s and
con’s of getting married to Emma or the decision to settle down. The obstacle in the decision to marry Emma is
that she is a devoted Christian and is extremely religious. Charle’s work and ideas cause tension between the
religious and scientific communities, which are still intact today. Inside the pages of this detailed novel is wit and humor as the author takes you inside the Darwin household. Heiligman portrays a deep loving relationship despite poor health, never-ending disagreements, and at times, religious and social condemnations. This is sure to
be an inspiring and heartening story.
Another book that’s a bit quirky is An Abundance of Katherines by the Printz Honor Award-winner, John Green. A child prodigy, Colin Singleton, has been dated and
dumped nineteen times all from the same girl, Katherine. He recently graduated from High School, and after being freshly dumped and depressed he and his friend set
off on a road trip. Their mission is to find a mathematical formula that can predict where any relationship will lead to. This cleaver, provoking, funny, original and often
irreverent story will appeal to guys and girls alike. Dozens of footnotes and random morsels of trivia occupy our storybook hero’s head. Colin’s life work, a handy appendix of notes and formula’s are shown and explained. Colin finds that after he gets past his obsession with math, anagrams, and Katherine he learns what’s the most
vital. He finds that he can reinvent himself to have an open heart. This book gets a big two thumbs up from the Mrs. Vater herself.
Another book that comes to Mrs. Vater’s mind is - How to build a House by Dan Reinhardt. This story is the one of a seventeen year old, Harper Evans. She hopes to
escape the effects of her father’s separation of her family and friendships. While trying to evade the problem she volunteers her summer to build a house in a small
Tennessee town confounded by a tornado. Alongside side her is the son of the family whose house she’s helping build, Teddy. Complete with power tools and all, their
partnership promises to turn into a summer romance. Mrs. Vater’s final book choice is Son of Mob by Gordon Korman. Seventeen year old Vince’s life is constantly
complicated when his father, a powerful Mafia boss, threatens to tear apart his romance with the daughter of an FBI agent. This fast paced and very funny tale is sure to
keep you on your toes.
Lastly, of course, you can enjoy the classics: Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel
Hawthorne. No matter what you do, February romance is in the air and books are on the shelves waiting for you to read them. Pick a nice comedy, romance, or thriller;
whatever your like. It is sure to be enjoyable!

CANDY HEARTS TELL ALL!
Let us take a closer look at candy heart’s history. In 1860 the brother of NECCO’s
founder, Daniel Chase, invented the Candy Hearts, originally called “motto hearts.” The
first hearts were printed paper with notes tucked inside. Candy Heart messages have
changed over the past 150 years, some of the original sayings such as “Be Mine” and
“True Love” are still being used today. NECCO Candy Company produces about
100,000 pounds of the candy hearts everyday in order to meet the Valentine’s Day
demand, there are about eight billion candy hearts sold every six weeks. For more
than a century, the makers of these conversation hearts have come up with some of
the sweetest ways to say “I Love You.”
NECCO Company has kept their sayings family appropriate, but they use other
people’s requests for messages. Even though creating new sayings for these candy
hearts can be difficult the sayings can not be offensive, distasteful, or have too many
words. Conversation hearts come in two sizes, there’s a standard ½ inch and a larger
¾ in. model. The smaller hearts usually can fit no more than two words with four letters each, but the larger hearts can fit two words with six letters each. What the history
of these candy hearts comes to, is that some things never change. The recipe has remained the same for nearly 100 years, hearts are still being handed out as expressions of love just as they were in the early 1900's.
So just remember “Be Mine,” “True Love,” “Love Ya,” and “Kiss Me” are still the sweetest candies ever made.

Love is in the air this Valentine’s season, and with Valentine’s Day fast approaching, couples are making plans. This day is
one celebration for couples everywhere, but when it’s not Valentine’s Day what are these couples like? How did they meet?
When was their first kiss? The following Glen Este couples have answered these questions and have shared a little more
about their relationship. Please enjoy, and Happy Valentine’s Day!

RYAN BOWENS & ALLI BALLITCH
Ryan Bowens and Alli Ballitch make a very interesting couple. They have been together since
March of 2010. They were introduced to each other by their friend, Haleigh Solmann. When asked
what they have in common, the couple responded by saying “We are both athletic and hate sitting
around. We always want to be active.” When asked about the differences, Ryan stated, “she loves
to spend my money, I hate it.” Don’t they sound like a lovely pair?
Ryan and Alli really enjoy the simple pleasure of hanging out. Some of their favorite activities to
do together include going to the movies and going out to dinner. What sets Ryan and Alli apart
from other couples is that they rarely fight and they don’t see their relationship ending anytime
soon. According to Alli, there aren’t any official plans for Valentines Day yet. Ryan says otherwise,
“It’s a secret.” When asked about their favorite memory as a couple, Ryan and Alli replied, “meeting
each other and always laughing and playing around.”
LORA McCALL & TUCKER POGNER
Lora McCall and Tucker Pogner have been together for five months and counting. When asked
how the couple first met, Lora cleverly responded, “We met in chemistry class. I guess you could
say that we have good chemistry.” A few similarities between Lora and Tucker include the same
eye being messed up, loving the same candy, and having a scar on the side of their face. One
difference between them is that Lora likes potatoes and Tucker doesn’t.
When asked about the date of their first kiss, Lora answered, “Homecoming. It happened after
a great deal of shyness.” When asked about Valentines Day plans, the couple said that plans are
still in progress, but no matter what, they’ll definitely be together. What some people may be wondering is what sets Lora and Tucker apart from other couples. “We’re possibly the strangest couple personality-wise, but we love every minute of it,” said Lora. When asked about their favorite
memory, the pair explained, “It’s hard to pick just one because all the tiny things constitute one
amazing memory that is still in progress.”
STEPHEN KUCHARSKI &
BRITTANY WALDMANN
Brittany Waldmann and Stephen Kucharski have a very intriguing love story. The first time they
really started talking was outside of Starbucks after a guy from the cash register “dumped” coffee
on Brittany. They have only been together for three months so far, but don’t let that stop you from
seeing the chemistry between these two love birds. When asked about their similarities, the couple
stated “We are both dumb, we’re also nice people, both laid back, but we have different interests.”
When Brittany and Stephen were asked what sets them apart from other pairs, the couple
responded, “We don’t isolate ourselves from our friends just because we’re together. We have a
lot of mutual friends.” When it comes to spare time, Brittany and Stephen enjoy going on road trips
together and going to Starbucks. In their eyes, the best part of being a couple is just getting to
see each other. “She is the first person I want to talk to when I wake up,” Stephen said. When
asked about their favorite memory together, Stephen responded “When she tried to kiss me on the
cheek and her nose stabbed my eye. It’s not the best, but I’m terrified of her to this day.”

CUPID’S COUPLES
DAVID FISH & ELISE DAVIDSON
What sets Elise and David apart from other couples? They are not only a cute couple, but they
are also best friends. Elise and David met in Mr. Grippa’s Biology class last year, and have been
together for eleven months now. Their first kiss was on August 21st.
Not every couple has nicknames, but Elise and David go all out with theirs. Elise’s nickname for
David is “Fishy Wishy”, and David’s for Elise is “Baby Boo.” If their nicknames weren’t enough of a
hint, one of Elise and David’s favorite thing to do is cuddle. They also like spending time with each
other. Both Elise and David’s favorite memory, since they became a couple, is the first time they
hung out.
Elise and David plan to go out on a special date for their first Valentine’s Day together.
SARAH FULLER & CORY DOWNS
Sarah and Cory have been going strong for almost two years now, and their anniversary is this
March. Sarah met Cory when her friend Cody came to her house bringing Cory along. Sarah immediately thought Cory was cute.
Both Sarah and Cory can relate to each other because they like movies, the color orange, and
they are both athletes. They love going to the movie theater and out to dinner. The few ways Sarah
and Cory are different is that Sarah is more talkative and she eats her vegetables while Cory doesn’t.
Sarah and Cory think the best part of being a couple is having someone to relate to and talk
with. They both feel that they are a really strong couple as well as strong friends.
CODY REEVES & LEXI GOTTIS
Cody and Lexi have been together for eleven months now. They were introduced to each other
by their mutual friends and instantly clicked. On Cody and Lexi’s first date, a few weeks after they
started dating, they shared their first kiss.
According to Cody the best part of his relationship with Lexi is that he has someone to go to
about anything. Even though they do have petty little fights, the fights are very infrequent, probably
because both Cody and Lexi have similar personalities. Their favorite memory together is when they
went to see “The Maine” in concert at The Mad Hatter for Lexi’s 16th birthday.
When Cody was asked if they had any plans for Valentine’s Day he responded with, “I have a
very special plan with Lexi, but it’s a surprise!”
SYDNEY SHANNON & WYNTON
OVERCAST
When Sydney was asked what the best part of being in a relationship with Wynton she replied
with, “Knowing you have a best friend you can talk to and always be yourself around.” Sydney and
Wynton met through a common friend who introduced them to each other after one of Sydney’s
volleyball games. From there they found out their brothers were best friends, which allowed Sydney
and Wynton to see each other more often. They have been together for almost fourteen months,
and their first kiss was last year on Prom night.
Sydney and Wynton have a lot of great memories with each other, but their favorite is the
memory of this past Christmas. They both feel that the gifts exchanged were heartfelt and will always be cherished. Wynton has shared that he and Sydney have plans for this upcoming Valentine’s
Day, but it is a surprise.

WRESTLING
LADY TROJAN BASKETBALL
With a current record of 9-3 in duals the Glen Este wrestling team has
been doing very well this season. In their most recent tournament they
placed 4th out of 49 teams, and with league tournaments coming up soon
its crunch time for the wrestling team. Caleb Ervin (21-10), Jon Piatt (1313), Josh Clift (21-7), Drew Kearns (27-6), Max Davis (11-16), John Mikolay (17-10), Cory Burris (19-7),
Travis Jones (11-8), Michael Kennedy (20-9), and Kyle Turner (148), are the athletes that make up the
varsity wrestling team. After the
league tournaments sectionals will
be held then district, then state.
Hopefully we will see some of these
guys bringing home a championship
here in the near future.
ACADEMIC TEAM
“So far the academic team has been pushing
hard but not hard enough,” according to Coach
Prueitt. He also added,“The season has not turned
out as I had hoped, but the season is still only half
way through.” So far the leading scorers are Adeed
Choudhury, Sam Brannen, and Michelle Scarcella. The season
ends on March 2nd hosted by the FAVC at Milford and the team is
working hard to win.
The record for girls basketball for Glen Este is 10-6 overall,
8-5 in the league. Coach Jeff Click says “we have played and
practiced hard all year, been very competitive in all of our games,
and shown great improvement from last year to this year.” Some
consistent players are Lakin Louiso, Katie Gaskil, Hannah Carson,
and Jackie Young. There are 5 games left and the team is planning to finish with an overall good season.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Boys’ basketball has been on a steady
roll and there isn’t too much changing. Coach
Caldwell says “We’re playing hard” which are
simple but truthful words. It was a big win against Amelia with an
86-56 score with Wynton Overcast ending the game with a slam
dunk. He also had a career high 11 rebounds. This was the first
time Glen Este has beaten Amelia in basketball in many years.
Currently their record is 12-2. Coach Caldwell says “Some big
games are coming up we are just trying to take it one at a time”.
So far so good and if this season stays consistent then Glen Este
should end with a good record.

THE KING AND QUEEN OF THE ALLEYS...
The Glen Este bowling program is doing
fantastic this year! Both girls and boys have an
undefeated record of 18-0! Senior Paul Hudson
is currently #1 in the FAVC for boys bowling with
Senior Jaek Pesnichak coming in at an impressive 2nd place. On the girl’s side, Leslie Campbell
ranks #1 in the FAVC with Senior Hannah
Ruehlman following in a still impressive 7th place. If the team continues
their winning streak, they will, without a doubt, make it to state with a
good chance of winning it all. The teams’ next match is Monday 7th against
McNicholas High School at Cherry Grove Lanes on Beechmont, let’s get
out there and support our Glen Este bowling team!

Hosted by Glen Este’s own After-prom committee, the first
annual Snowball Dance was hosted on February 5th, 2011. It
was a Sadie Hawkins style dance, so the girls got to ask the
guys! The attire was semi-formal. The dance itself was electrifying, with good music by famous artists and a few slow
dances to dance cheek to cheek. The DJ for the night was
Kyle Atkins and he got the party started when the students
were inspired to do the wave. This soon transitioned into a
conga line and at the end, a special song dedicated for Seniors only. This dance was special in the sense that the Afterprom committee provided snacks, desserts and pizza all
included in the ticket price. Proceeds from tickets will be used
to create a fun, exciting, and spectacular after-prom this May.

-Dan Beasley believes that if you’re interested in someone, you should communicate it in person, NOT through texting.
-Both Mellanie Begley and Cody Reeves’s best love advice is to be yourself! Mellanie also shares a favorite romantic movie with Mrs. Dohrmann: “Dirty
Dancing”.
-Mrs. Dohrmann thinks that when wooing someone you are interested in, a little bit of mystery goes a long way.
-Her fellow NHS advisor, Mr. Devine, on the other hand, believes that one should wear proper shoes because you don’t want to woo in poorly constructed
footwear!
-Kristina Fultz believes that in order to win someone over, you must have a sense of humor, be reliable, honest, and let them be themselves around you.
Her favorite romantic movies are “The Notebook” and “The Princess Bride”.
-Jessica Lotz (whose favorite romantic movie is also “The Notebook”) told us that her boyfriend once blindfolded her, took her to a candle-lit picnic and
danced with her to their song under the stars. How romantic!
-Nicholas Sparks strikes again; Mrs. Napier’s favorite romantic book is A Walk to Remember. Her best love advice for the ladies is to be “forward but polite” because “guys don’t usually get hints”.
-Gwendolyn Bell’s favorite Valentine’s tradition is to eat chocolate. Her best Valentine’s gift was also chocolate. Looks like she has a sweet tooth!
-Mr. Riordan takes the chocolate obsession one step further. His special Valentine’s Day tradition is to swim in chocolate rivers with his significant other
while shooting each other with arrows. Also, someone once gave him a half-eaten box of chocolates with a recorded voice card saying, “Life is like a box of
chocolates.” in what he calls a “crappy Forest Gump accent”.
-Mandy Spencer’s best Valentine’s Day present was a gift of edible arrangements. If a guy wants to ask a girl out, she recommends taking the girl to a
steakhouse and asking her out there.
-When Mrs. Schultz was pregnant, her husband gave her a back massager to keep her comfortable and lots of chocolate as her Valentine’s Day present.
Her favorite romantic movie is “You’ve Got Mail”.
-Mrs. Houghton’s favorite romantic movie is the classic “Titanic” and her favorite romantic books are the Twilight series.
-Mary Schmidt and her mother receive chocolate covered cherries (yum!) every Valentine’s Day. Her best love advice is to simply make the other person
smile.
-Allie Dusha’s love advice is to “NOT be annoying like 99% of the people in the world…” and to “just be”.
-Both Mr. Mason and Mrs. Burris have spent 26 Valentine’s Days married to their respective spouses! Mr. Mason recalls receiving an anonymous poem
someone had once written to him professing their affection toward him but he never found out who sent it! Mrs. Burris once ironed all of her husband’s
clothes in one day as a Valentine’s Day present for him. They must have great chemistry!
-You might want to take pointers from Mr. Shelton; he’s spent 36 Valentine’s days with his wife! He cites four key words: attraction, respect, friendship, and
love.
-The best Valentine’s Day gift Sydney Shannon has received is a car from her boyfriend Wynton Overcast! She thinks that the key to wooing someone you
love is to sing to him or her.
-Ms. Yarchi likes to give her daughters little gifts on Valentine’s Day to remind them they are loved. She also believes that the best way to impress your
special someone is to feed them a good meal.
-Mr. Reveal truly believes that Valentine’s Day is not overrated at all. In fact, he further breaks the stereotypical mold by claiming his favorite romantic
movie as a typical chick flick, “The Notebook”.
-Senor Frank holds a similar belief. He admits, while commercially, Valentine’s Day is overrated, its true meaning is not. His best love advice is to have
patience, really listen, compliment the other person, and do little things such as leaving a note, buying a favorite candy bar or surprising them with flowers,
etc.
