Introduction to Sizing
Understanding sizing can only help you with your sales
presentations.
This webinar will help guide you through size charts,
learn key terminology and hear upcoming trends.
Men’s Sizing
Key Terminology:
• Regular fit: 1-2” additional circumference in the
bodice or sleeves to the standard body
measurements
• Slim fit: Fits true to size of your actual chest/bust
measurement or slightly less.
• Oversize/Relaxed fit: Fits considerably larger than a
regular fit allowing 2-4” additional circumference than
actual chest/bust measures.

Women’s Sizing
Key Terminology:
• Missy fit: Designed for a traditional customer with a fuller
fit than junior or contemporary. It tends to be cut less
fitted, and is typically a more mature customer.
• Junior fit: This fit is designed close to the body and the
rise tends to be for a younger customer (teens).
• Contemporary fit: Contemporary designs are considered
to be some of the trendiest items in the market place. The
fit is between a junior cut and a missy cut and is designed
close to the body.

Unisex Sizing
• What is unisex sizing?
• Unisex sizing is when the
same cut of a style is offered
in a broader size scale such
as xxs-xxl and can be worn
by both men and women.
Women will typically buy into the smaller range such as
xxs-m, whereas men will buy s-xxl.

Fabrication
How can fabrication affect sizing?
• Wovens vs. Knits
• Fabric content/make up (i.e.- 100% Cotton vs. Cotton /Spandex blend)
• Knit Tension
• Shrinkage
• Fabric Finishing (i.e.- fabric wash vs. garment wash)
• Fabric Examples: Cotton Jersey, Fleece, 2x1 Cotton Rib
Presenting Sizing to Your Customers
• When is it better to present a unisex style to a
customer over gender-specific items?
• Are manufacturers moving away from unisex sizing
or is it becoming more popular?
