PARENT’S HANDBOOK
The time has come for the twelfth season
of Camp Loisirs La
Colombe.
Whether this is your first summer with us or you have been
here before, we are delighted that you are joining us and we
are certain that your children will have a wonderful camp experience. Our friendly, caring and knowledgeable staff is eager to greet your children with many new and exciting programs planned for 2016. We are also looking forward to the
summer months to ensure your children have a safe and
memorable camp experience.
Camp Loisirs La Colombe offers students a superb educational experience and unparalleled excitement of campus life
across the Greater Toronto Area and its surrounding communities during the summer. Because opportunities to learn and
grow extend beyond the classroom, the Camp has developed
a wide range of activities, programs and services to meet students' extracurricular needs. These activities recognize the
richness and diversity of our student body, the practical realities of school and city life, and the needs of children for entertainment, sports and recreation during the summer time.
While our day-to-day focus is clearly on our children, we are
always mindful of the importance of communicating with parents and of keeping them informed and involved
CAMP LOCATION
Our camps will take place in schools located in Scarborough, Thornhill, Uptown
and North York. Please check the website or sign up for our mailing list in order
to get the address of the specific
schools.
Creating new experiences, skills
building and forming lasting friendships
All of our programs run in
the morning from 9:00 to
11:00 am. Campers are sent
in different classes according to the program selected.
After their study period, fulltime campers join the other
campers from program 1
and continue the rest of the
afternoon activities. Half day
campers end their session
at 12 pm.
Programs are now categorized by age. We still recommend you inform your
child’s teacher that you
have registered your child
into our camp. Your school
teacher’s input will clarify
your child’s need. A copy of
your child’s report card can
be another tool used to evaluate his or her progress during the school year, thus the
camp teacher or tutor will be
better able to assist your
child. If you have any areas
which you would like us to
focus on with your child, we
encourage you to submit it
to us IN WRITING.
Our teachers and tutors proceed by an assessment of
each pupil the first day of
class.
This year we are bringing
back the theme entitled
Rhythms of the world. Each
week will include a special
activity such as African and
Latino dancing, pottery,
Zumba etc promoting the
comprehension and harmonies of cultures. The kids
will experience a rich variety of sounds, rhythms and
art.
Through our weekly camp themes,
we provide new opportunities to
explore new activities and interests
Here are brief descriptions of our special activities.
Please notes: all events and activities are subject to change.
ECOLOODI presented by Ludiwine cluzot
Ecoloodi present the tools and services to educate children
about the importance of water. They will be presenting
“The Legend of the Giant Frog”, a legend of the First Nations
Mi’kmaq people of Eastern Canada. The children experienced the adventures of Nirvelli (“Water Child” in Mi’kmaq)
through dance, songs, and interactions.
Zumba for Kids presented by Nicole Vass
The Zumba® Fitness kids and Kids Junior is a fun, interactive
class that will complete your camp activities and will not only give the children the exercise they need but will bring
them together in a team environment where they will learn
cooperation, teamwork, coordination, focus, discipline
rhythm recognition and much more.
The use of different rhythms (salsa, merengue, hip hop, tango, raggaeton, etc ) associated with a combination of easy to
follow, simple dance steps creates an educational, fun
workout for the students.
YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program presented by
Suzanne Tremblay
The YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program offers educational prevention programs designed to raise youth
awareness with regards to gambling, healthy/active living and making informed decisions. The YMCA believes
educational awareness raising programs are essential to
enhancing personal development and creating healthier
communities. This year’s activity is titled “Amazing
Race”.
KOURABA TORONTO presented by Amara Kante
Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement
(KTCCA) is a non-profit organization with the objective to
engage and connect communities in learning more about
African wisdom tradition & artistic expression and how
they relate to other indigenous cultures around the
world. The kids will take part in an exciting cultural experience revolving around the musical traditions of the Malinke people of West Africa. They will learn to play djembe in a fun and festive environment and discover percussion rhythms and exciting Traditional African dances.
Here are brief descriptions of our NEW and IMPROVED programs!

French language for the first time.

The objective of this program is the acquisition of basic
comprehension, communication, reading and writing skills
in French. It aims to provide students with a solid grounding
in French grammar and the development of an awareness of
the language’s structures, and to act as a useful introduction
to French and Francophone culture.

This course emphasizes developing greater proficiency in
listening, speaking, reading and writing French through
study of more complex language structure, reading and

the francophone community that are strong, mature and

programming for middle schoolers. This program is intended to prepare its Junior Leaders to potentially
return as camp staff in the
future.
Each Thursdays, the kids will go on a field trip. Our regular camp programs will be running on field trip days.
However, the classes will be shorter. Therefore, even if
your child is not registered for the field, they could
come for the morning portion. More information on field
trip days will be available at the camp location and in
the detailed parents handbook.
Your cooperation with our policies will allow us to provide the best service and a
