Welcome to Kids‛ College at Midland College! Session I .............. June 6 - 16 Session II ............. June 20 - 30 KIDS’ COLLEGE is a summer enrichment program for students who will be completing the first through sixth grade this spring. The curriculum has been developed to offer courses for introduction and enhancement rather than for in-depth study. Every year, over 1,000 children participate in Kids’ College. The Kids’ College staff is looking forward to a very successful program of fun and enriching classes. This year classes will be offered off campus through COM Aquatics, Inc. and at Midland Community Theatre. At Midland College, three class periods are offered each afternoon, Monday through Thursday, as Midland College is closed on Friday. Students can spend an hour and a half or the entire afternoon with us. Kids’ College registration will not be taken by phone. Registration questions can go to the Continuing Education office at (432) 685-4518. www.midland.edu/kc Pre-admission Forms Conduct In order to register online, pre-admission forms must be completed and received by the Kids’ College office, prior to registering online. Pre-admission forms will be accepted beginning Monday, February 29. It is preferred that you submit this form electronically at www.midland.edu/kc or complete in full and return to the Midland College Continuing Education office located at the Scharbauer Student Center, Room 214, 3600 N. Garfield or fax to (432) 685-6412. Since the purpose of Kids’ College is to provide an enrichment program, proper standards of conduct are necessary to protect the health, safety and well-being of all Kids’ College students. • Behavior that might interfere with the educational process is unacceptable. • Students will be respectful of other students and staff. • Students will be careful with college equipment, property, and the property of other students. • Safety of students is our first responsibility. Students MAY NOT GO ANYWHERE on campus without being accompanied by a staff member. • Parents will be contacted if their child is involved in any unacceptable situations during the day. If you have been contacted due to unacceptable behavior, you will be asked to pick up your child. • Staff members, have the right, at any time, to exclude any child from activities due to failure or inability to follow, as directed, any and all rules and/or policies for participants. Online Registration Online registration will increase a student’s chances of getting into their favorite class(es). The date for online registration is Wednesday, March 30, at 9:00 a.m. Payment is due at the time of registration, which will ensure your child will be in the class of their choice. Lack of payment will result in child being dropped from course(s). Walk-in Registration The date for walk-in registration is Monday, May 23 at the Continuing Education Office located at the Scharbauer Student Center, Room 214. Fee Schedule Each Kids’ College class is $45 with supply fees that range from $5 to $30. Prices for COM Aquatics, Midland Community Theatre will differ. Students Grade Level To be eligible for Kids’ College, students must have finished grades 1st through 6th in school year 2015-2016. No exceptions will be made. Refund Policy Fee(s) will be refunded ONLY if a student withdraws by noon on the Thursday proceeding the first day of the session (NO EXCEPTIONS). A $10.00 processing fee will be assessed. All “Request for Refund” forms may be completed in person at the Continuing Education office located at the Scharbauer Student Center, room 214 or by faxing to (432) 685-6412 or by going online to www.midland.edu/kc. Refunds take up to 30 days to process. Students risk expulsion from the program if: • The student steals or is caught stealing another person’s property. • Threats of bodily injury. • Physical contact of any kind. Health Concerns Kids’ College Coordinators have completed the requirements for Standard First Aid, Adult, Child & Infant CPR, Epi-Auto Injector, and Asthma Inhaler. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s health, please visit with the Kids’ College Associate Director at (432) 685-4724. Children with food allergies are advised not to enroll in a cooking class. During Kids’ College, if you have an inhaler or Epi pen that you would like to leave in the Kids’ College office, please contact the CE office PRIOR to Kids’ College at (432) 685-4518, AFTER Kids’ College, (432) 686-4242. Schedules and Name Tags Since registration is online, Kids’ College will not print and mail class schedules, therefore, please print a copy of your child’s schedule at the time of registration. Please make sure that your child knows their class schedule before attending Kids’ College. In case of inclement weather, please keep a copy of this schedule so you will know the class and building where your child is located. Midland ISD is not responsible for, and does not endorse the contents of any non-school literature that may be distributed on Midland ISD campuses as a service to students and families. 2 Children will be given nametags during the first Kids’ College class. Nametags include a list of classes with room numbers and building names. Students are encouraged to wear their nametags for the duration, as this assists the Kids’ College staff. Clothing Students should dress in casual play clothes, with care given to appropriate clothing for special classes. If your child is in volleyball, basketball or PE & More, they must wear tennis/ running shoes to participate. Sandals and flip flops are not allowed on gym floors. Snack There will be a break between the second and third classes to allow for class changes and an organized “group” refreshment break. Lost and Found During Kids’ College, lost and found articles will be located in the Kids’ College office in Portable Building 7A or call (432) 686-4242. Kids’ College is not responsible for lost or stolen items. T-shirts Shirts will be given to all students in the 12:40 class on Tuesday of the second week of each Kids’ College session. If you are not enrolled in a 12:40 class, please pick up a t-shirt at the Kids’ College office on the second Wednesday of classes. The Kids’ College office is located in Portable Building 7A or call (432) 686-4242. T-shirts cannot be replaced if students lose them. We encourage all students to wear their t-shirt on the last day of classes in each session. If you are enrolled in all Kids’ College sessions, you will receive one t-shirt during the first session. Drop-off/Pick-up Carpool will be located in the Allison Fine Arts parking lot. A map is available online at www.midland.edu/kc or at the Continuing Education office located at the Scharbauer Student Center, Room 214. Please make sure that your child knows their schedule. We ask that all children go to carpool and not wait at other locations on campus. If you must park and pick up your child, please assist Kids’ College staff and wait for the flow of traffic to stop before stepping into the line of traffic. Security is essential to the safety of your children during Kids’ College and we appreciate your cooperation. Campus police officers will assist Kids’ College staff with traffic and your patience and cooperation is appreciated. Carpool will begin at 12:15 p.m. Staff will not be available before this time and we ask that you do not leave your child unattended. Last pick-up of the day will begin as soon as all children are at the pick-up site, which is usually 5:10 p.m. If you are late for pick up, please pick up your child at Portable Building 7A, (432) 686-4242. Off Campus Locations COM Aquatics, Inc., 3003 N. “A” Street For Aquatic camp, students will need to be dropped off and picked up at COM Aquatics, Inc. A Parent Permission form must be on file with the Continuing Education office prior to the first day of class. Midland Community Theatre (MCT), 2000 W. Wadley If your child attends Midland Community Theatre in the morning and plans to attend Kids’ College in the afternoon, a Parent Permission form must be on file with the Continuing Education office prior to the first day of class and submitted in order to ride the bus. Kids can bring a lunch or enroll in the lunch program. See page 19 for lunch information.
