Sean Barber Lasallian Volunteer, 2011
Sean Barber Lasallian Volunteer, 2011-‐2013, San Miguel School, Tulsa, OK Graduate student at Lewis University Being in a Catholic, Lasallian family of a school has been probably one of the biggest things in my life. I went to public school from kindergarten all the way through high school and then I came to Lewis as an undergrad, and that felt like a giant family. It wasn’t just a school, but it really was a big family where everyone cared and actually wanted to help, and give you experiences that were outside your comfort zones and also ones that made you feel more comfortable. Because of my time here, I became a Lasallian Volunteer and worked in a Catholic school, and yet I keep spreading that love, that compassion, that drive to help the students and really just become a giant family. Really, that’s why Lasallian and Catholic schools are the best. Patricia (Chay) Tanchanco Lasallian Volunteer, 2011-‐2013, De La Salle Elementary School, Memphis, TN Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, CA; Masters, School Counseling (PPS) When I say, “I am Lasallian,” this means I have proudly become a person of faith, service, and community. I hold both my LV experience as well as my time so far attending Saint Mary’s College very close to my heart because it means every moment of each day, I am reminded of what it means to be Lasallian. To me, being Lasallian means holding hands with others when you don’t always agree, and believing in each other enough to work towards a better future for others. Being Lasallian means serving long hours dedicated to the strengthening of the intellect, empathizing with the emotions, and joining in faith with a community who needs you as much as you need them. And being Lasallian means finding daily encouragement in the constant presence and grace of God, whose love connects us with true meaning in our lives, giving us hope in knowing we never walk alone. I am looking into my future as a Lasallian with pride and with great hope, knowing that I extend my hands to a connected world of communities who are working to perform the greatest miracle: touching hearts!
