Christian Henson · Workshop Discussion
The British composer and Spitfire Audio CoFounder Christian Henson recently worked
for great Games-Productions – in addition to
his work for more than 45 film and television
productions. With The Flight, Christian composed tracks for the highly acclaimed game
Alien Isolation and wrote the music for the
fourth part of the popular UbiSoft franchise
Assassin's Creed IV : Black Flag. At SoundTrack_Cologne Christian will talk about the
connection between film and game music
and give an insight into the production
processes using virtual and real instruments.

Achievement Award winner Cliff Martinez
Workshop Discussion
Once he led the beat as the drummer of the
Red Hot Chili Peppers and got inducted into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Nowadays the
BAFTA-Award winner is firmly established in
the film music business as composer for many
Steven Soderbergh movies (e.g. Traffic, Solaris,
The Limey) plus highly praised independent
thrillers like Drive with Ryan Gosling and
currently The Neon Demon (both by Nicolas
Winding Refn).

Gary Yershon · Workshop Discussion
His career spans 40 years and spreads from
Film and Television to Radio and Theatre.
He composed the music for the three Mike
Leigh movies: Happy-Go-Lucky, Another
Year, and Mr. Turner. His score for Mr. Turner
earned him a 2015 Academy Award nomination. He is a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and worked for Broadway
and West End Productions.

Miriam Cutler · Workshop Discussion
Emmy-nominated composer Miriam Cutler is
firmly established in the documentary and independent film business with credits for over
a hundred documentaries and movies. She
collaborated with director Rory Kennedy on
many movies, such as Pandemic: Facing AIDS
and Ethel. Furthermore Miriam Cutler scored
American Promise, the winner of the Documentary Special Jury Award at Sundance
2013 and the Oscar-nominated The Hunting
Ground. Miriam is a founding-member of The
Alliance for Women Film Composers and a
member of The Academy of Motion Pictures.

Fainchtein, Pia Hoffmann and Milena Fessmann, as well as director Christian Alvart

Breaking Bad or The Revenant. They will
also talk about the differences between music
supervising in Hollywood and Germany.

Ilan Eshkeri · Workshop Discussion
Neo-Classical Composer Ilan Eshkeri collaborates frequently with world renowned artists,
such as KT Tunstall, Annie Lenox, Coldplay,
Sinead O’Connor and Tom Odell. For his
score to the movie The Snowman and the
Snowdog, he got a BAFTA Award nomination.
He composed music for over 60 movie projects, including Kick Ass, The Invisible Woman,
47 Ronin, Shaun the Sheep and the Oscarwinning Still Alice. Eshkeri is currently commissioned to compose a ballet, and has
completed Collide starring Anthony Hopkins,
Ben Kingsley, Nicholas Hoult.

Jeff Russo · Workshop Discussion
Two-time Grammy and Emmy-nominated musician Jeff Russo is a prominent composer, songwriter and arranger in the film and television
industry. He scores the award winning series
Fargo, which is inspired by the eponymous
thriller by the Coen brothers. Currently Jeff composes the music for series on HBO, ABC and
CBS. In addition to composing for TV, Russo is
still lead guitarist of the rock band TONIC which
was Grammy nominated twice and reached
platinum status.

Łukasz Targosz · Workshop Discussion
The Polish composer Łukasz Targosz was
awarded for his music by several international film festivals and wrote the music for
over 40 soundtracks for various projects. He
scored the HBO series The Pact which currently has its international run in several
countries worldwide – it is a thriller about an
investigative journalist being on the track of
a financial scandal. His compositions are
characterized by enormous precision and
passion for melody.

Christophe Héral achieved what many
videogame composers are dreaming of: As
in-house composer of videogame giant
Ubisoft he created the best known and
greatest franchises. He wrote music for Rayman Origins, Beyond Good and Evil and The
Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Christophe will talk about the cooperation with an international games publisher
and about the different nature of music in
videogames compared to music in cinema
and TV.

The cooperation between Composer Jasmin
Reuter and director Anne Zohra Berrached for
the movie Two Mothers started successful with
winning the Dialogue en Perspective award at the
Berlinale in 2013. The main topic of this workshop discussion will be their renewed collaboration for the movie 24 Weeks. It is a story about
the polarizing topic of late-term abortion, which
is told musically by Jasmin Reuter’s score. 24
Weeks was selected to compete as the only German contribution for the Golden Bear at the 66th
Berlin International Film Festival in 2016.

Reinhold Heil · Workshop Discussion
The television series Deutschland 83 was an
international success. The LA based German
composer Reinhold Heil won the Grimme
Award (German TV Award) in 2016 for his
work on this series. In addition, he co-scored
the German cult cinema hit Run Lola Run, the
blockbuster hit The International and the big
international co-production Cloud Atlas. He
currently works on the new series Berlin
Station. Reinhold Heil knows well about the
importance a good score makes towards the
international success of a movie.

European Education Alliance for Music
and Sound in Media, EEAMS, is a SoundTrack_Cologne initiative, which arose from
the former European University Meeting.
EEAMS collaborates with the Festival International du Film d'Aubagne, where one of the
two annual meetings takes place. Headed by
Yati Durant (University of Edinburgh) and
serving as network for higher education institutions, EEAMS aims to support international
collaboration and to bridge interdisciplinary
boundaries.

Jessica Curry, co-founder of the Game Developer The Chinese Room, explored entirely new
ways of creating music for Games such as Dear
Esther and Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture,
for which she achieved two BAFTA-Awards.
Her compositions are story driven and lead to
an emotional gaming experience. In the panel
discussion, she will talk about the particular
synthesis of music and storytelling in games
and about her personal experiences in this
business.
