PARKS & RECREATION
Want to Get Involved?
The Sausalito Parks & Recreation Department strives to
provide quality programs to Sausalito and its community that
enhance growth, expression, and recreation through people,
parks, and programs.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET NEW PEOPLE?
GET TO KNOW NEW FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS?
Whether you’ve just moved here or are a longtime resident, an
exciting and fun way to meet the people in your community is
to volunteer for the Sausalito Parks & Recreation Department.
We’re already busy planning this year’s Breakfast with Santa,
Easter Egg Hunt, and Caledonia Street Faire. So, you can tell
we need volunteer help with all of these events throughout the
season. If you want to help drive these events and participate
on a different level, how about joining a committee for a
specific event? The time commitments usually require several
pre-event meetings and event day participation. The reward is
supporting our community and having fun while doing it! Did
you know you can have this much fun without leaving town?
Call the Recreation Department at 289-4152 and let us know
how you’d like to help.

Once again we kicked off the summer season with our traditional
Caledonia Street Fair and Lions Club pancake breakfast followed
by the always anticipated start of Jazz and Blues by the Bay and
Sausalito’s own 4th of July parade and fireworks extravaganza. Hats
off to the Sausalito Parks and Recreation staff, interns and volunteers
for their planning and flawless execution of all of our summer events.
Summer is the time to get out and take advantage of our City
parks, enjoy our world-class location and unsurpassed views.
This summer Dunphy Park served as the staging point for the North
American Hobie Catamaran Sailing Championships while Gabrielson
Park was once again the venue for our summer long Friday night Jazz
and Blues by the Bay community picnic and social gathering.
Our events are a success because of the wonderful proactive
Sausalito community. It is never to late to become involved in the
community. Anyone who has ever volunteered to help with a Sausalito
Parks and Recreation event will tell you that volunteering enhanced
their event experience.
Your support and involvement guarantees a strong community
focused Parks and Recreation Department. If you want to pass on
your passion or share in someone else’s, please contact Jeff Dybdahl
at Sausalito Parks and Recreation about taking or teaching a class.
If you want to volunteer for an event, please contact Erin Stroud our
events coordinator and if you want general information or are not sure
who to talk with, please contact Anita Wong and she will happily direct
you to the appropriate person.
Just a reminder, the Sausalito Parks and Recreation Commission
meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm in the Edgewater
Room at City Hall, 420 Litho Street. These Commission meetings are
open to the public. Please note however, that any agenda item should
go through the Sausalito Parks and Recreation Department office at
289-4152. Your attendance and participation is always welcomed.
On behalf of all the members of the Sausalito Parks and Recreation
Commission and the dedicated Sausalito Parks and Recreation staff
we would like to say it is both a pleasure and privilege to serve you our
Sausalito community.

COMMUNITY: ANNOUNCEMENTS
Sausalito’s Newly Enhanced
Smoking Regulations
The State of California’s current regulations ban smoking in all
enclosed workplaces in California, including restaurants and bars
with few exemptions; California bill AB846 bans smoking within 20
feet of the entrance or operable window of a public building, the law
also prohibits smoking in state owned vehicles. All cities are required
to enforce these state regulations.
Until recently the City’s smoking regulations, adopted in 1994,
were similar to that of the State of California. However, like many other
cities in Marin County, Sausalito has recently updated the Clean Indoor
Air and Health Protection Ordinance including many ideas provided by
the American Lung Association and the Marin County Department of
Health and Human Services. In July of 2012, the City Council adopted
new Smoking Regulations which includes all regulations set by the
State of California, and in addition, have increased Sausalito’s smokefree regulations throughout the City.
The intent of the change in the Smoking Regulations is to
discourage the inherently dangerous behavior of smoking around nontobacco users and to protect children from exposure to smoking and
tobacco. The regulations will protect the public from nonconsensual
exposure to secondhand smoke and tobacco-related litter and pollution
and by affirming an open atmosphere of the City’s public places.
The approved amendments have been made to the Sausalito
Municipal Code and will regulate smoking in multi-unit housing
residences including common areas, private balconies, porches,
decks and patios. The amendments allow private individuals the right
to enforce the smoking regulations. In addition, the amendments
establish smoke-free areas, including public streets and parks;
outdoor dining areas for restaurants; marina facilities; and recreation
and special events. Specific areas that smoking will be prohibited are
as follows:
• Multi-Unit Residences
• Multi-Unit Housing Common Areas
• Marina Facilities including docks, piers and docked boats, vessels
and house boats
• Within 20 feet from any entrance, opening or exit of any enclosed
area, including windows
• Within 20 feet of service lines (ATMs, ticket lines, bus stops,
transit shelters, ferry terminals and cab stands)
• Within 20 feet of working road, building and construction crews
• Recreational areas (playgrounds, sporting facilities, children’s
play areas and rinks)
• Public events including, sport events, entertainment, speaking
performances, ceremonies, pageants, fairs and farmers markets
• Minimum of 80% of guest rooms in every hotel, motel and bedand-breakfast facilities must be permanently designated as
completely non-smoking
• Any place where food and/or drink is offered for sale, including
outdoor areas of restaurants, bars and farmers markets
In addition the regulations state:
• No person shall dispose of smoking waste or tobacco waste within
the boundaries of an area in which smoking is prohibited
• No person shall place or cause to be placed any ashtray, tobacco
ash collector or receptacle in any area designated a non-smoking
area
While the outdoor smoke-free provisions have already taken effect,
starting in early September 2012, some affected parties are given
lead-time to take specific actions.
• 120 days: Landlords of existing multi-family units, who choose
to designate fewer than 100% of the units as nonsmoking have
120 days after approval of the ordinance to submit a description
of each designated nonsmoking unit sufficient to identify the
Unit, and a diagram depicting the location of the designated
nonsmoking Units in relation to all other Units.
• 270 days: Homeowner membership of existing common interest
multi-unit housing complexes, must vote on the threshold
question of allowing less than one hundred percent (100%) of
Units to be designated nonsmoking Units
• 1 year: Landlords of multi-unit housing, Homeowners Associations
of condominiums and townhouses have one year to comply with
all requirements of the Ordinance.
To assist the multi-unit housing property owners and residents
implement the updated smoking regulations, a Sample Smoke Free
Lease Addendum is currently on the City’s website, www.ci.sausalito.
ca.us/Index.aspx?page=3. The Addendum will help property owners
and residents understand their rights and ease the transition in to the
new regulations.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the City’s new
Smoking Regulations, please contact Assistant Planner, Alison
Thornberry-Assef at 289-4131 during normal business hours.

Community Newsletter 415-289-4152
This annual community event is a partnership between our own, local,
award winning public charter school, Willow Creek Academy and the
Sausalito Parks and Recreation Department. This year’s event will be
held in the historic Liberty Ship Building at 10 Liberty Ship Way in
the Marinship. Local artists will open their studios to the public some
for the first time, allowing guests to view works in progress as well
as ongoing collections. Guests can stroll the studios while enjoying
the best epicurean delights from Sausalito’s finest restaurants. Live
local music and an exciting silent auction round out the evening’s
festivities.
Sausalicious is supported by local restaurants presenting their
best dishes. This is a chance to explore some of the best Sausalito
culinary delights all in one location.
Community support of Willow Creek Academy has helped it grow
from 37 students when it opened in 2001 to over 250 this past year.
Willow Creek Academy has ranked in the top 6 Charter Schools in
California—an impressive achievement among the over 800 charter
schools in California. The API scores have consistently placed Willow
Creek above the average for Marin County Schools. These achievements
help stem the flow of young families leaving our community as their
young children approach school age. Willow Creek Academy now offers
families a viable and achievement based education opportunity. All of
this success requires continued community support and involvement.
Attending this annual event is one way to continue the success of our
community’s public charter school.
Sausalicious 2012 will be held on November 10th from 5:00 -7:00
pm at 10 Liberty Ship Way. Tickets are $25.00 per person and can
be purchased on line at www.willowcreekacademy.org or at the event.
All proceeds benefit Willow Creek Academy and Robin Sweeny Park
and Playground. For additional information please visit our website
at www.willowcreekacademy.org . If you are interested in donating

An Update from Sausalito’s
Japan Sister City
It’s been a busy summer for Sausalito’s Japan Sister City organization!
Beginning in late May, the Sister City hosted Sakaide Mayor Hiroshi
Aya when he came to celebrate the Golden Gate Bridge’s 75th birthday.
During his visit, Mayor Aya along with Japan Consul-General Hiroshi
Inomata and City Council Members honored the late Amy Belser by
planting a cherry tree—a gift from the Japanese Consulate—in
Gabrielson Park (See photo). In late June, Susan Roe, Chair of the
Japan Sister City, was invited to participate in a 3-day celebration of
Sakaide’s 70th anniversary.
Continuing the traditional student exchange between our two
cities, Sausalito’s Sister City hosted 13 Sakaide high school students
and 2 chaperones from July 26th until Aug 5. The theme of the
2012 visit was ABC, incorporating the many educational and social
activities in which the students participated: A for Art—art, music
and dancing; B for Balance—‘rock building,’ a Marin Mammal Center
educational tour and other eco-friendly projects for teaching about
planet earth; and C for Culture—learning about Sausalito’s history
and the waterfront and the “American lifestyle” experiences of living
with local families who provided their homestay accommodations.
Thanks to the many Chamber of Commerce members and others
who provided classes, entertainment, meals and lodging, including
Lorna Newlin of Sausalito Pottery, Doree Clark of Stage Dor Dance
Studio, Teens Turning Green, Casa Madrona Hotel, Spinnaker, Sushi
Ran, Sausalito Yacht Club, Feng Nian, Dario’s, Caffe DiVino and Venice
Gourmet. The visiting students were also treated to visits to San
Francisco’s Academy of Science and the Japanese Consulate, Six Flags
and Muir Woods, a Giants game, a Cavallo Point Cooking Class and a
variety of art-based sessions with local artists. Their visit concluded
with a farewell celebration at the Sausalito Yacht Club where they
performed dances learned during their visit.
The Sister City will have a food booth again this year at the
Sausalito Arts Festival. The Sister City Board and Committee members,
as well as “Sister City student alumni” and their families, will once
again be serving their popular Japanese Udon noodles. Anyone wishing
to volunteer for a 2-hour shift is asked to contact Susan Roe at sroe.
clark@gmail.com. All are welcomed!
Next year marks the 25th year of the Sister City relationship
between Sausalito and Sakaide. Plans are already underway to
recognize and celebrate the occasion from July 1-5, 2013!
Stay tuned . . .

Sausalito Village
Sausalito Village is dedicated to providing practical assistance,
social connections, and resources that enable our members to stay
independent and supported in their Sausalito homes as long as
possible, as they grow older. Sausalito Village is operated by an all
volunteer steering committee under the umbrella of Marin Village, a
California non-profit organization with I.R.S. 501(c)(3) status. There
are no age limitations, but most members are 60 or older.
A key element of membership in Sausalito Village is a single
telephone number that you can call to request assistance and
referrals to the types of services and support you require. Most of
our referrals are to a dedicated team of more than 50 volunteers,
all of whom have been thoroughly vetted and passed a background
check. These volunteers are available to provide services such as
transportation to the Airporter, shopping, and doctor’s appointments,
help with small household repairs, computer training and support,
and respite and support for caregivers. At the request of a member,
trained volunteers will do a safety assessment of the member’s home,
make recommendations for modifications that can be taken to reduce
risks, and refer the member to volunteer and/or paid service providers
to accomplish these modifications. A health care advocacy group,
consisting of volunteers with experience in some area of the health
care field, will assist members in navigating their way through the
increasingly complicated health care system to ensure that their
individual needs are identified and appropriately addressed.
When the type of assistance needed by a member goes beyond
what a volunteer can reasonably offer and requires the help of a
paid professional service provider, referrals will be made to service
providers whose qualifications and references have been thoroughly
checked or who are personally recommended by Sausalito Village
members.
In addition to the service hotline, membership opens up the
opportunity to become part of a vibrant community of people who

share in many social, cultural, and recreational events. Under a grant
from the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, Sausalito Village organizes
and provides transportation to many cultural programs and events in
the San Francisco Bay area. Recent programs have included, among
others, trips to the Stein exhibits at the San Francisco Museum of
Modern Art and the San Francisco Contemporary Jewish Museum,
Filoli, a San Francisco Symphony rehearsal, and several exhibits at
the De Young and the Palace of the Legion of Honor. There are also
periodic member lunches at Sausalito restaurants, monthly meetings
with guest speakers, a chair yoga class, a memoir group, Thursday
coffee hour, a weekly bocce game, a book group, volunteer recognition
events, and numerous other activities.
Members of the Sausalito Village Steering Committee are: Betsy
Stroman, Chair, Sharon Seymour, Vice Chair, Charlie Arenson, Mary
Barter, Meg Fawcett, Lee Follett, Ann Heurlin, Felicity Kirsch, Jackie

SAUSALITO HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Keeping Sausalito History Alive
The Sausalito Historical Society returned to the Caledonia Street Fair
in May with historic displays, SHS merchandise and a table where kids
could “finish” the Golden Gate Bridge. A dozen visitors became new
members of the Society.
The Society again provided living history lessons to students from
Bayside Elementary School and Willow Creek Academy this spring. The
program involved approximately 40 third grade students, over a dozen
SHS docents, numerous parents, school administrators and local
businesses. Participating students received plaques commemorating
their research work at a joint ceremony on June 4.
Have you heard those “Secret Sausalito History” spots on Radio
Sausalito (1610 AM)? They’re produced by the Society with tidbits from
our archives. If you’d like a PowerPoint presentation on this secret
history for your group, contact info@sausalitohistoricalsociety.org.
Three officers were elected to additional one-year terms by the
SHS Board in June. Larry Clinton, Sharon Seymour and Linda Sempliner
were re-elected as president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively.
Board member Donald Sibbett was elected vice president.
In conjunction with Spaulding Wooden Boat Center, SHS docents
are giving guided boat tours of the Sausalito waterfront one Saturday
per month. These free tours depart four times a day during Spaulding’s
monthly open house receptions, and everyone is welcome to participate.
Upcoming tours are scheduled for August 18 and September 29,
departing hourly from 11am–3pm. Space is limited. Call 332-3179 or
289-4117 for more information.
Be sure to visit the Society’s exhibition of Phil Frank cartoons that
ran weekly in the Marin Scope from 1977-1984: FRITZ (THE COMIC
WIT OF PHIL FRANK) CRACKERS. The exhibition is open to the public
through the end of the year on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the
Society’s newly renovated Exhibition Gallery on the second floor of
Sausalito City Hall, 420 Litho St.
The Ice House at 780 Bridgeway carries many gift items suitable
for locals, their friends and family. It’s open Tuesday through Sunday
from 11:30am to 4pm.
Step back to a dramatic time in Sausalito history by touring the
Marinship exhibit at the Bay Model. This display of photographs,
paintings and actual artifacts from the WWII ships and yard was
developed by the staff of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Bay Model
Visitor Center and the SHS.

LIBRARY NEWS
Friends of the Sausalito Public Library
Huzzah! The Friends just celebrated their 50th anniversary of
supporting our beloved Library.
How do the Friends support the Library? Typically, the Friends fund
the Library’s “wish list” covering such items as ereaders, the Speaker
Series, computer classes, museum passes, and children’s programs.
The Friends have also contributed significantly to the book budget.
And Friends volunteers provided approximately 300 hours of help at
the circulation desk.
How can you support the Friends? There are several ways you can
help—and all of them are greatly appreciated. Membership dues,
donations, and book sales are the major sources of income. You can
also be a very valuable volunteer. Here’s more information:
Membership
New Friends are always welcome—and needed! As a member of the
Friends, your support is important. We are blessed to have a wonderful
Library here in Sausalito and by continuing to pull together we can keep
it that way. Membership forms are available at the Library’s circulation
desk and online at friendsofthesausalitolibrary.org, where you can
now donate with PayPal. You can also email fosl94965@gmail.com.
BOOKSTORE
Have you visited the Friends’ bookstore lately? It’s just upstairs from
the Library and always receiving new inventory. The store offers nearlynew bestsellers, gorgeous antique classics, and everything in between.
Don’t miss the lavish art books, the music, and the children’s corner.
Open Mondays 9am-5pm and Wednesdays and Saturdays 10am1pm. In addition, come enjoy the “Nosh-and-Browse” hour just before
Speaker Series events. The Friends also maintain a book sale area in
the Library, including a section dedicated to children’s books. (Even
if you don’t have children, it can be fun to revisit your old favorites.)
Do you have any books you would like to donate? The Friends rely
on your book donations to keep the book store operating. You may drop
off your donations in the Library at any time during library hours. There
is a donation barrel just inside the door. Donations may also be left in
the bin in the 3rd floor hallway outside the book store entrance. A cart
is available to bring books in from the parking lot. If you have a large
donation (multiple boxes or bags) we would be grateful if you brought
them during sale hours. If you cannot plan a drop off when we are
open, call Libby Wilkinson at 332-0206 and she will arrange to meet
you at City Hall at your convenience. Donations are tax-deductible.
VOLUNTEERS
Do you have an extra couple of hours a week or even once a month?
Why not spend that time amongst books and Friends! Volunteers are
always needed to help with book sales and lend a helping hand in the
Library. No experience is necessary; we will train you.
If you would like to help with the Monday and/or Wednesday book
sales, contact Libby Wilkinson at 332-0206 or libbywilkinson2@
gmail.com. For the Saturday book sales, call Mary Lou Anderson at
332-6440. You can also just drop by the bookstore when it is open and
we will gladly put you to work.
If you would like to volunteer in the library itself, contact Jim
Delano at 215-6538 or jdelano43@comcast.net and he will be happy
to schedule times that are convenient for you.
However you choose to participate, your FRIENDship is always
greatly appreciated!
Sausalito Library Foundation
FOUNDATION? FRIENDS? WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
The Sausalito Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library are
independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with a common goal.
Both are dedicated to helping the library’s able staff and the Library
Board of Trustees maintain the excellence of one of our most valuable
community resources. In fact, the Friends established the Foundation
to provide long-term support, while they handled the immediate needs
of the library, particularly when the City budget was unable to provide
the necessary funds.
The Sausalito Library Foundation, established in 2006, is
sustained with financial contributions from the community. It supports
the Library through special programs and projects and helps provide
long-term financial stability. In its first three years, the Foundation
funded the Library’s strategic plan and the Library’s Early Childhood
Services program. In partnership with others, the Foundation also
underwrote a computer lab and the digitization of the Sausalito News
from 1895 to 1922. A Foundation grant in 2011 enabled the hiring
of a library planning and interior design firm to look at our Library’s
physical space, assess its ability to serve the community, and identify
strategies to (1) effectively use the space we have and 2) recommend
plans for the future. The Foundation will lend its support and match
funds with the Library’s capital improvements fund to move ahead
with a makeover using the Library’s current footprint. We will continue
to explore possibilities for a larger space.
Donations and bequests to the Foundation are used to maintain
a revenue source that supplements public funding and helps ensure
that our Library remains a current and relevant resource for our
community in the years to come.
Friends of the Sausalito Public Library, founded in 1961, provides
financial support for short-term needs and furnishes volunteer
assistance in the Library. Volunteers also manage the Friends Bookstore
on the top floor of City Hall fourteen hours a week and put in extra
hours receiving, sorting, and displaying used-book donations from the
community. Revenue from the book sales provides the lion’s share of
income for the Friends. With Bookstore profits and membership dues,
the Friends have provided ongoing support to the library when needed.

SCHOOL NEWS
Willow Creek Academy
Our 12th school year begins at the end of August and we are busy
fixing up the campus, establishing a new third grade classroom (we
will now have two classes each in grades Kindergarten through third
grade), putting after school tutoring programs in place, and sharing
what we all did over the summer. In spite of the fact we know that
there will be a September heat wave (after all, this is Sausalito) we
are breaking out our fall sweaters and trying to keep up with all of the
Back to School excitement.
This year, we will be exploring new sets of curriculum known as the
Common Core standards. In the past, California had a set of rigorous
curriculum standards in place which we used as our guidelines for
the content that was presented. These standards were developed
by California educators for California teachers and students. The
Common Core standards are a national set of standards, developed by
National Teaching organizations, and emphasize process as much as
content. This translates to writing across the curriculum, ie there will
be a strong element of science and math that involves writing; less
factual content might be covered in a given grade level than before,
but the learning will go deeper into causes and effects, underlying
concepts, etc. English Language Arts will encompass a lot of non-

fiction as well as technical kinds of writing and reading rather than
focus only on fiction as we have in the past.
These are exciting changes and our staff is working hard to rearrange and re-invent what they have worked with in the past We
believe Willow Creek is well poised to take on these new standards
because of our commitment to project-based learning and crossdisciplinary approaches. This summer, prior to the beginning of the
school year, our teachers are participating in a variety of professional
development opportunities (Arts Integration, Common Core Standards,
Restorative Justice, Anti-Bullying, Childhood Creativity) and then will
share their learning with each other. We are truly blessed to have an
outstanding staff that always puts their students at the forefront of
what they do. When a new idea is presented, the first question our
teachers always have is “how does this help my kids?”
Check in with us over the next several months and see what
we are doing as a result of these new Core Curriculum standards. If
you are interested in enrolling your child in the 2013-14 school year,
please go to our website and download the enrollment forms. The next
step would be to arrange for a tour of the school and make sure that
you think Willow Creek would be a good fit for your child.

POLICE NEWS
Sausalito Police Department’s
Marine Patrol Program
The Sausalito Police Department’s Marine Patrol Unit was created in
2007 in response to the unusual challenges and demands of the large
and diverse boating community in the waters surrounding the City
of Sausalito. The Marine Patrol Unit’s resources and capabilities are
dedicated to maintaining the safest possible boating environment for
our residents and boating visitors. The Marine Patrol Unit routinely
trains and conducts law enforcement operations with other agencies
such as the United States Coast Guard, the United States Army
Corps of Engineers, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, San Rafael Police
Department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the California
Department of Fish and Game. We also partner with the Marin County
Health Department doing outreach to residents in the Anchorage
providing emergency packs, flu shots and resource information to
those in need.
In 2011 considerable effort was invested in enhancing the
marine patrol program resulting in an expansion of the number of
marine patrol officers, increased training, and the addition of a 26’
Safeboat, as well as the creation of a multi-agency task force that
meets monthly. The Sausalito Police Department’s Marine Patrol Unit
now has eight (8) members utilizing two different vessels to conduct
operations. The designators for the two vessels are Marine One and
Marine Two. Marine One which was acquired in 2011 is a 26’ dual
engine Safeboat. Marine Two is shared with the Richardson Bay
Authority and is a 23’ Munson twin hulled vessel. Marine One and
Marine Two have been involved in several rescue operations, arrests,
and other maritime safety/enforcement operations.
The Marine Patrol Unit receives in-house training and trains
jointly with the United States Coast Guard, United States Army Corps
of Engineers, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, the San Rafael Police
Department and the Richardson’s Bay Regional Agency. Training for
the Marine Patrol Unit is comprised of, but not limited to, navigation,
seamanship, boat handling, communications between vessels,
boarding tactics, rescues, searches, statutory laws, tactical boat
operating, helicopter operations, and towing distressed vessels.
In 2011, the Sausalito Marine Patrol Unit and the United States
Coast Guard’s ‘Station Golden Gate’ entered into a Memorandum of
Understanding which facilitated information/intelligence sharing,
coordinated training, provided for the sharing of maritime law
enforcement personnel, and authorized joint operations between
the two agencies. The Marine Patrol Unit and the Coast Guard are
currently conducting numerous joint operations/patrols each month
in order to improve safety and enhance the quality of life along the
Sausalito waterfront and within Richardson’s Bay.
Members of the Sausalito Marine Patrol Unit recently received
acknowledgement for their rescue of four people from a small boat
that had lost power and drifted hundreds of yards outside of the Golden
Gate Bridge. High winds, strong tides, and large waves were pushing
the small boat further out to sea when our Marine Patrol Officers were
able to reach them, and safely return everyone and the disabled boat
to shore without injury.
The Marine Patrol Unit’s goal for 2012 is to build upon its
accomplishments from 2011 and provide a higher level of service to
the waterfront community. We encourage the community to partner
with us in accomplishing our goal by notifying the Sausalito Police
Marine Patrol Unit of any water related unusual and/or criminal
incidents within the City of Sausalito waters. By partnering with us
and providing information on unusual activities in the waterfront
areas, including suspicious persons or boats, we can continue to keep
Sausalito marinas and waterways the fun place it is where people
enjoying living, working and playing all year long.
If you wish to learn more about the Sausalito Police Department’s
Marine Patrol Unit, please visit our website at www.ci.sausalito.ca.us/

CHILDREN’S CLASSES: DANCE
Giggles & Wiggles:
Belly Dance Parent and Me
Get back into shape and feel like a Goddess, while having fun bonding
with your baby/ies. Grandparents, Nannies, Caretakers and Aunties
welcome too. This sacred and ancient art form is profound, irreverent
and playful. It was originally for women to prepare for pregnancy, birth
and postpartum. It creates a beautiful tone, shape and strength for
all those key areas: core abdominals (tummy), thighs, hips, pelvic
floor, buttocks, lower back. It enhances your body self esteem as you
learn all women are goddesses, no matter what age or shape they are.
Babies love the movements to help with colic, calming and going to
sleep. They are fascinated by all the sparkles and jingles of the coins.
According to one satisfied mom, “It is the only thing that I can do for me
that entertains both my children—my baby watches and my toddler
copies me.” Please bring your baby carrier/sling and wear stretchy
pants and a scarf of some sort for your hips. For brand new moms,
please get permission from your health provider before participating,
generally once your babe is six weeks old, you can resume exercise. No
prior dancing experience is necessary.
Tatanya Jardine is a mom to a vibrant toddler and has been Belly
dancing for 13 years. She has studied with many international Master
teachers and performed internationally. She loves performing for kids

Argentine Tango
Dance and Music A Lecture and Dance Demonstration
Argentine tango culture is a unique phenomenon that arose in the
harbor cities of Buenos Aires and Montevideo at the beginning of
the 20th Century. It reflects the life of the people in these La Plata
River cities by expressing their human experiences and emotions:
love, passion, dreams, happiness, sadness, and nostalgia. From the
beginning, tango has fascinated the world and has had a lasting
influence on music, dance, art and fashion.
The roots and history of the Argentine tango will be presented
with examples of tango dance and music and more than 45 minutes of
live demonstration of the dances that use Argentine Tango Technique:
Argentine Tango, Milonga, and Vals. Argentine Tango dance structure
and the differences between Tango Milonguero and the other styles
of tango as well as the customs associated with this social dance
will be discussed. Over 2,500 people have enjoyed these presentations
and they are highly recommended for people considering taking
Argentine Tango Classes. Instructor Jurek Mazur has taught tango for
eleven years. He has used his science background to create a unique
teaching method for teaching and learning Argentine dances: tango,
milonga and vals. Tango has been proclaimed a few years ago by the
UNESCO “An Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”

Birthing Bellydance
for Conception & Birth
Biodanza
Birthing Bellydance is the original birthing dance for conception,
pregnancy, birth and postpartum. This sacred and ancient art form
is profound, irreverent and playful. It creates a beautiful tone, shape
and strength for all those key areas: core abdominals (tummy), thighs,
hips, pelvic floor, buttocks, lower back. It enhances your body self
esteem as you learn all women are goddesess, no matter what age
or shape they are. This class is focused on actual skills for birthing
as well as creating comfort and ease during the pregnancy and
birth. Bellydance has been and is still used as a communal birthing
dance in many tribal cultures, come and learn these secrets and be
empowered in this magical journey of birth. This is a not a regular
bellydance class! It will help increase circulation & blood supply to
your reproductive system and baby, vitalize your energy and therefore
strengthen your babies too, which increase the chance of conception
as does being around already pregnant women and rocking motions
(20% in ivf studies!) Learn how to relax and move into a safe trance to
open your body with the appropriate movements for an easy birth and
come into a beautiful community of Mamas! It is so crucial to befriend
our bodies and especially our pelvic regions so we can have the birth
we desire. Develop the strength and stamina needed for the birthing
positions of your choice. Help baby into their ideal positioning for birth
and learn skills to increase breathing space, maintain balance &
posture, decrease acid reflux etc. Develop the corresponding emotional
spiritual stamina for parenthood in a safe environment.

Kundalini Yoga
What makes Kundalini Yoga different from other forms? Each exercise
and every class as a whole provides a balance of physical, mental and
spiritual practice. The postures are unusually dynamic (moving) rather
than static (held) and include both a mental focus and conscious,
powerful breathing. The meditations often include chanting. Kundalini
Yoga’s unified approach to the body, mind and spirit helps develop our
inner energy and re-connect us with the pure beauty and goodness
that we are. This safe and comprehensive system is suitable for all
fitness levels. Beginners are welcome!
Instructor Gurukar Singh Khalsa has been teaching Kundalini
Yoga and meditation in the Bay Area for more than 30 years and is
also a teacher trainer certified by the Kundalini Research Institute. His
teaching style is fun and relaxed.
