The Power of Mentoring…
Inspiring and empowering children and youth!
Upcoming Celebrations and Holidays!
We are thrilled that we were able
to provide mentoring programs to
an incredible 1,650 children and
youth in 2015. We will continue to
work hard to achieve our goal of
providing even more youth with
m e a n i n g f u l m e nto r i n g a n d
supportive relationships in 2016.
Our agency is fortunate to have
many dedicated volunteers and
generous donors who help us to
continue to grow and provide
quality programs to the children
and youth in Peel Region. The demand for our programs
continues to increase and we thank you for the important
role you play in assisting us to help our youth reach their full
potential.
It is always an exciting time at the beginning of the year as we
kick off our 2016 Tim Hortons Bowl for Kids Sake events. A
total of five different bowling events will take place across
Peel Region from Feb 21st - May 9th with a goal of raising
$180,000. If you haven't participated before, give us a call
and we would be happy to tell you more about it. This is a
great event to bring together family, friends or coworkers
and have a fun afternoon or evening of bowling all in support
of Big Brothers Big Sisters.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank our
generous 2016 Tim Hortons Bowl for Kids Sake sponsors:

Caledon Enterprise, Rogers and Z103.5 who year after year
have helped to make our event a tremendous success. I'd
also like to thank our Honorary Chairperson, Peel Regional
Police Chief Jennifer Evans for lending her support for the 4th
year in a row and to the incredible 38 Peel Regional Police
bowling teams who participated in our February 21st event.

CEO Shari Lynn Ladanchuk. In the back are Robin Juns,

Express Mississauga Dundas. Thank you CARSTAR for this
very generous donation!
We would also like to extend our thanks to the United Way of
Peel Region for their continued support. As they are in the
midst of wrapping up their campaign we wish them great
success! Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel is proudly their
largest funded agency and we are very thankful for the funds
we receive which allow us to provide quality programs to the
youth in our community. At our agency we are thrilled that
we were able to support the United Way through our own
agency campaign raising over $5,000. We look forward to
being at their Community Achievement Celebration in March
when they announce their grand total raised.
Summer Residential Camp Subsidy Program
Wishing all of our volunteers, families, donors and other
supporters a wonderful 2016!

The Toronto Star Fresh Air Fund and other donors help our
agency offer overnight camp to children 8 years of age and
older where crafts, canoeing and archery highlight the
experience. We plan to offer the following subsidized camp
program to our families this summer.
REGULAR COST OF CAMP - $385 - $500 per child
SPECIAL COST TO BBBS FAMILIES - $150- $200 per child

Holiday Donation from Bonanza Gardens
Thank you to Gene Bidinot from Bonanza Gardens, and his
family, who purchased over $27,000 worth of toys from
Costco Brampton for the children and youth at Big Brothers
Big Sisters. We thank you for your generosity and for helping
to ensure that the children in our agency have a Christmas to
remember!
Our thanks is also extended to Manny Manchanda and team
at Costco, for their assistance with coordinating this
wonderful donation. Thank you for helping to put a smile on
so many children's faces this holiday season!
Holiday Party Was A Huge Success!

On December 20th
representatives from Ashley
HomeStore delivered 25
mattresses, box springs, bed
frames, comforters and sheets
to our families. During the first
month that their Heartland,
Mississauga Ashley
HomeStore was opened, they
committed to giving away one bed set for each mattress sold
in their store (over $999). All dressed in Santa hats the
representatives from Ashley HomeStore personally delivered
and set up all the beds in our families homes. Amongst those
involved in the deliveries was the Vice President of Ashley
HomeStore, Bob Cotton. A special thank you to Rhonda,
Andrea, Tony, Adam, Ashlyn and Bob for your generosity and
for your commitment to giving back to your community.
On December 7th, over 450 Bigs and Littles gathered at
SkyZone in Mississauga for a fun-filled holiday party. There
were crafts, photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, trampolining,
pizza and gifts donated by Mattel.
A special thank you to Chris and Imran from Pizza Pizza,
who donated an incredible 95 pizzas for our party, and to
Mattel, who donated 450 amazing gifts for our children
and youth! Our thanks is also extended to Bill and Andrea
Bates, Art and Brenda Morrison, and to SkyZone!
Big Brothers Big Sisters BIG Spelling Bee

partnered with Invesco
Canada to promote
academic excellence at
their 2nd Annual BIG
Spelling Bee. The BIG
Spelling Bee is a fun and
educational event
where students across
Central Ontario get an
opportunity to improve
their spelling and
increase their vocabulary while at the same time raise
awareness of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs.
On February 6th , 23 students competed in the spelling bee
at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The top three
participants were presented with trophies to celebrate their
achievement. Congratulations to the spelling bee winners 1st
place: Bassam, 2nd place: Krista and 3rd place: Aryan. Bassam,
from Allan A. Martin Sr. Public School will now be going on
to compete at the E.W. Scripps International Spelling Bee
near Washington D.C. at the end of May.

Thank you to LensCrafters!
A special thank you to LensCrafters at Shoppers World
who provided 15 of our Little Brothers and Little Sisters
with new eyeglasses. This is all part of their OneSight
program to help ensure that everyone is given the
opportunity to have great vision!
Boston Pizza supports Giving Tuesday!
On December 1st, Giving Tuesday, Big Brothers Big Sisters teamed up with
Boston Pizza Square One to raise funds. Between the hours of 5 - 8 pm Boson
Pizza donated 15% of their sales to Big Brothers Big Sisters. We had 8 of our
Little Brothers and Little Sisters teamed up with Boston Pizza servers to be
'Celebrity Servers' for the evening! Thank you to all of our Littles who came
out to support us and to Boston Pizza for making a difference on Giving
Tuesday!
Big Brothers Big Sisters was also out at the Boston Pizza Courtney Park
location on January 28th with 7 Little Brothers and Little Sisters as 'Celebrity
Servers'.
Thank you again to all of the Littles who participated in this event.

FUNDRAISING NEWS
Weston - Seeding Stronger Communities
Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts of Maplehurst
Bakery in Brampton and Ready Bake, Mississauga, plus
George Weston Limited matching all employee donations, a
total of $50,251.80 was recently donated to BBBS. The money
raised goes directly to support our agencies Go Girls and
Game On programs to help youth in our community lead
healthy and active lives. A special thank you is extended to
Farida Shaheed and Sydney Morgan from the Maplehurst
Bakery who presented Big Brothers Big Sisters with a cheque
for $30,727.80 at their
employee Holiday
lunch. This was the
result of their
employees very
generously donating,
plus holding
fundraisers and George
Weston Limited
matching their
donations.
This is the sixth fundraising campaign that George Weston
Limited has held as part of their Weston - Seeding Stronger
Communities. Employees across North America raised a
record $536,266.25 for 29 local charities. With the
commitment of a $1 for $1 match by George Weston Limited,
this means that they will be donating over $1.07 Million to
help North American children become more healthy and
active.
