Eight Men “IN”
Meet the Four Additional Members of ALL THAT Who Joined the
Original Members on this Saeson’s “America’s Got Talent”
Adapted from articles by Michael Williams of the
Sevier County, Tennessee News, John Jarvis of
the Marion Star, ALL THAT’s FaceBook Fan Page
and Jeff Driggs, Double Toe Times
When all male clogging group
“ALL THAT” made their journey
on season seven of the popular
NBC talent series “America’s
Got Talent,” many viewers
remembered the group from
their first runner up finish in the
first season of the show in 2006.
This time around, in addition to
four of the five original members, Mike
Curtis, Delohn Collins, Mark Clifford and
Brian Staggs, the group included several
new faces.
When the group was formed in 1999, the
guys had dominated the competition dance world
for more than 15 years, collectively winning
hundreds of solo grand championship titles and
thousands of trophies each.
Trading in their
10
www.doubletoe.com
competition pasts for a performance future, the
guys put together a signature style of high energy
footwork and power with lots of machismo and
sex appeal for the ladies and collective nods
to their roots and origins that made audiences
connect with them in a powerful way.
With
international travels, the group has performed
in Austria, Germany, Italy, Ireland, and Japan,
participating in some of the world’s
most popular festivals. ALL THAT!,
also has many television credits as
well.
In addition to America’s Got
Talent, the group has an impressed
television resume; Finalists on
FOX TV’S 30 Seconds to Fame
and ABC Family’s Dance Fever,
CBS’S Star Search, The Jerry Lewis
MDA Telethon, and the Speed Network’s
Fast Track to Fame. The group’s picture
appeared as a promotion on the side of Pepsi’s
Mountain Dew cans, and they have been featured
in Dance Spirit magazine, USA Weekend, Rolling
Stone and numerous other publications.
In
2003 ALL THAT!, was
awarded the highest
honor in clogging, the
Pioneer Award, for their
continuous
support
in promoting clogging
and ushering it into
mainstream media. In
2007 they were the
show openers for the
University of Kentucky
Basketball’s “Midnight
Madness,” performing
for over 23,000 people.
In addition to
performing, the group
The Doubletoe Times Magazine of Clogging
has a history of community service.
“Each
dancer in ALL THAT! has been blessed with an
incredible talent and believes in giving back and
helping those in need,” said ALL THAT member
Mike Curtis. These guys have raised thousands
of dollars for terminally ill children, held benefits
for youth sports leagues, and performed for The
Cancer Society’s Relay for life.
Since the time that the group first came together,
the different opportunities that they were given
made it difficult for some members to commit to
major moves and life changes as they pursued
individual careers, schooling or their personal
lives.
ALL THAT member Kenneth Fithen, of
Kentucky, was unable to join the group for the AGT
appearance as he and his wife Kelly expected the
birth of their second child.
Because of the rules of the show,
performers are allowed to
return and audition
with a percentage of
changes to the lineup.
From a stint in Las
Vegas to their current
home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as regulars
at Calvin Gilmore’s Carolina Opry, several talented
dancers have worked with ALL THAT or performed
in shows to fill in for them when they had other
engagements or took time off. It was from this
pool of incredibly talented young men that ALL
THAT created the super-group that took the stage
on America’s Got Talent.
Indiana native Drake Elkin was honored to be
a part of ALL THAT for the talent show. With his
boyish smile and shock of red hair, Elkin looks
much younger than his 27 years. But this young
man is a seasoned performer, who took time away
from his job performing as a McCoy clogger in the
Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Show in Pigeon Forge,
Tennessee to participate.
“The hardest part of the America’s
Got Talent show for me was that many
of the group were together practicing
in Myrtle Beach and I was by myself
practicing in Pigeon Forge,” Elkin said.
“However, I am getting wonderful on
the job experience at the Hatfield
and McCoy Dinner Show and I think
as a group we were very strong in
the show.”
The mind reading act of Eric
Dittleman beat the group in the
quarter-finals but Judge Sharon
Osbourne played her wild card
because she liked the group
and kept them in the competition. She
told the group she was proud of them and that
they deserved to go on to the next round.
The group continued on to the semifinals and
brought the crowd to its feet with a production that
included dancing on platforms, solo dancing and
setting their feet on fire and dancing with flames
coming from their toes.
“It was an intense and brutal competition,” Elkin
said. “It was a very tough week because there

were so many great acts,” he said. “Thank you
to everyone who voted! I really appreciate your
continued support.”
Osbourne said to the group, “You are incredibly
manly. You are fabulous, just fabulous.”
Judge Howie Mandel told the group, “What you
do is amazing. I wish you the best of luck. If you
like them, vote for them.”
Judge Howard Stern said, “I love your act. I
can’t believe how entertained I am by this. You
certainly have talent and you are really fascinating
to watch. I love you, but this is going to be tough.
People don’t realize the pressure of a live show you make it or break it.”
While the group impressed the judges, they did
not make it to the finals in a season filled with
diverse talents.
When Elkin began clogging at the age of 10, he
really wasn’t planning on a career as a clogger.
“My older brother started clogging a year before I
did and at the time I wasn’t interested in clogging,”
Elkin said. “My Mom asked me if I would be
interested in clogging and I kept telling her, ‘no.’
She took me to a class with other kids my age and
I saw all the girls and I said I would give it a shot.
After two years I was able to travel and perform
12
www.doubletoe.com
at festivals and that is when I noticed an older
competition team who got to go on a two week trip
to Europe and I thought to myself, ‘I’m going to
give it my all so I can get to do that.’”
Elkin made the competition team and traveled
for five years to performances all over the country
and even got to perform on the stage of the Grand
Ole Opry.
“I never got to go to Europe but here I am 15 years
later getting the chance to perform on America’s
Got Talent!”
The first clogging team Elkin joined
at the age of
12 was The
Rise N’ Shine
Cloggers
in
Ellettsville, IN. At
age 15, he moved
on to another
competitive team,
The
Clogging
Sensation
in
Branson, Mo. under
the direction of Stan
Webb. He competed
with the team three
The Doubletoe Times Magazine of Clogging
to four times a year for six
years and even competed in
the Junior Olympics in Detroit
(AAU). Elkin won five gold
medals and six silver medals.
The beginning of his
connection with the clogging
group “ALL THAT” stems from
2005 when Mike Curtis, the
team leader of “ALL THAT”
called and asked if he wanted
to fill in with the group at the
Carolina Opry Show in Myrtle
Beach for the summer.
“We all grew up competing
against each other in the
clogging world and then we
began to work together,” Elkin
said. “I danced at the Opry in Myrtle Beach for the
summer and then I went back to my competition
team for a year.”
The Clogging Sensation team then dissolved as
members of the group went off to school.
“It was sad when the team dissolved,” Elkin said.
“I didn’t clog for three years and then one day in
2009 Mike called me again and asked if I wanted
to do a show with his group, “ALL THAT,” in Hong
Kong for eight days. Of course, I said, ‘yes!’”
Elkin did not have steady clogging work after that
until 2011 when friend Jeff Driggs told him about
an opportunity for a clogging job at the brand new
Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Show. He auditioned,
got the job and moved to Pigeon Forge.
“I get to dance for a living and this job is a dream
come true.” Elkin said. “I love the crowd. I love the
fast pace and the high energy of the Hatfield and
McCoy Show. I give a lot of credit to my mother.
There were a lot of moments when I got frustrated
and wanted to quit clogging, but my Mom would
not let me.”

Elkin and his wife, Nikkole live in Sevierville,
Tennessee. His wife works for Camberra in Oak
Ridge.
Prospect, Ohio native Brad Berry was also
enjoying his first television competition experience
as a member of ALL THAT, but is no stranger to
dancing with the guys. He has been a member
of the group in their Carolina Opry shows for
many years and brings a wealth of percussive
experience to the group.
Brad isn’t the only
professional dancer in the family. His twin brother,
Bryan, is a member of a professional tap dancing
troupe touring Germany.
Debbie Speakman said she remembers telling
her twin sons “to ‘Try to find something you like
for a career. As long as it’s legal, I’m behind you.’
It turned out there was something they could do.”
“The two of them, ever since they were about
11 or 12, have done nothing but live and breathe
dance,” Speakman said. “They just love it. I figured
one of the two of them would end up on something
like this.”
Brad Berry said the experience of competing on
the show was “really good. It was really stressful,
especially we made it into the semis. The further
you move on, the less time you have to prepare for
the next round.”
Joanne Cook, owner of Joanne’s School of
Dance on Indiana Avenue in Marion, Ohio said
Brad Berry’s first lessons at her studio were a false
start.
“He started out taking jazz, which was the funniest
www.doubletoe.com
13
thing in the world,” Cook said. “He tried it for a little
bit, but told me, ‘I don’t think this is for me.’”
Clogging soon became his passion.
“My brother started at the age of 10,” Brad Berry
said. “He used to impersonate Michael Jackson
and kind of got in (dance) that way. I did try tap
dancing a year and a half after him. I didn’t feel
comfortable, but I knew I wanted to do something
similar. Clogging felt more comfortable to me. ...
Once I got into clogging, I was just able to pick that
up easier, as far as the body language.”
He and his brother both found success with
Joanne’s School of Dance, Brad winning a half
dozen national clogging championships through
Rising Star, and his brother capturing several
national tap-dancing titles.
Their mother said they were offered contracts at
the age of 16 by Opryland in Nashville, Tenn., but
“we didn’t take them up on that because they were
still in high school. At that point, I thought this was
serious. I always told them, ‘You may have to wait
tables and dance in community theater.’” Instead,
they were offered their first professional jobs with
Common Ground, an Atlanta-based troupe of Irish
step dancers. “They took off and they’ve been
professional dancers ever since. They’re both
doing exactly what they want to do now.”
Brad Berry has made a profession of the dance
form because “he’s a dedicated young man,” Cook
said.
Speakman said she signed her sons up for
Cook’s dance school after Bryan Berry struggled
academically.
“He had such a hard time in school,” she said.
“He couldn’t do anything right. ... One day he
called and said, ‘Mom, I’ve got to dance.’”
Touched by his pleadings, his mother supported
his wishes and his sibling’s, as well.
Cook follows the careers of the twins and her
other dancers closely.
“We’re very, very close,” she said. “When you
know a child has talent, you push it to give him
every advantage, and I’ve been very lucky. I must
have some good kids.”
Berry is thankful for Sharon Osbourne, one of
the AGT show’s three judges, who made the group
a wild-card pick, allowing them to move on in the
televised talent competition.
“We owe almost everything to her because
even the wildcard episode she was our saving

grace again,” Brad Berry said. The troupe gained
the support of a second judge, Howard Stern, to
continue past the wildcard show.
He said he’s enjoyed the experience, expressing
gratitude to Carolina Opry, which has worked
around the schedules of the four ALL THAT
members under contract with the tourist resort
entertainment venue.
“We didn’t sleep,” he said, laughing. “We were
dancing all the time, but we could never have paid
for this exposure. I loved it, and the group loved it.”
Even though the group did not advance to the
finals, he counts himself fortunate to be doing what
he loves as a career.
“It’s absolutely incredible,” he said. “There’s
really no one word big enough to explain what that
is like. I definitely don’t take it for granted.”
Harrison Barnes is the youngest member of ALL
THAT. He started clogging at the age of 2 with
Moncks Corner Dance studio in his hometown of
Moncks Corner, South Carolina and has clogged
for the past 22 years. As a teen clogger, Harrison
was very successful as a solo competitor, winning
The Doubletoe Times Magazine of Clogging
grand champion at national competition and being
named to Palmetto’s Finest, a recognition by the
South Carolina Clogging Council, and also was
named to the All American Clogging Teams by the
America’s Clogging Hall of Fame organization.
He was a member of the Corner Cloggers and
the American Elite Cloggers, directed by his
mother Vicki. As a junior in high school, Harrison
was asked to perform in the Bailey Mountain
Cloggers Spring Concert at Mars Hills College
in western North Carolina. During this time he
also was selected to be part of a clogging group
featured in a music video by the folk group Uncle
Earl aired on the CMT country music television
channel. It was just before his senior year in
high school that Harrison was approached about
filling in for some of the guy’s with ALL THAT.
That began daily trips after school to Myrtle
Beach for rehearsals and soon Harrison was
performing nightly at the Carolina Opry theatre,
filling in as the full time cast was making their
first appearance on NBC’s America’s Got Talent.
Harrison’s natural stage presence caught the eye

of management of the Opry and they asked him to consider coming there to
work upon graduation. He decided to attend Coastal Carolina and become
a full-time cast member of the Carolina Opry and member of
ALL THAT. “Harrison loves to perform and share his love of
clogging and dance,” said his mother Vicki Barnes.
Harrison completed college in three years while dancing
nightly and after five years with ALL THAT at the Carolina
Opry, he decided to take a contract on Princess Cruise lines
as a dancer and take the opportunity to see the world. He
was ported out of Copenhagen, Denmark for 10 months
before coming back and performing with ALL THAT
again on NBC’s America’s Got Talent this season.
Rounding out the eight man ALL THAT group on
America’s Got Talent was champion clogger Joel
Harrison of Nebraska. Harrison is a national champion
solo dancer and director of the 2011 and 2012 back-toback national champion dance team “Tap This.”
Harrison credits his mother with starting him dancing in
1988 at age eight. He started teaching at age fourteen
and started directing his first competition teams at the
age of seventeen. Upon graduation from high school,
Harrison took ownership of the studio and became
director of the competition teams for the Capital City
Cloggers of Lincoln, Nebraska, Harrison was the
youngest clogging instructor ever inducted into the
National Clogging and Hoedown Championship’s
National Clogging Hall of Fame, and was selected
director of the 2002 All Star Pro Team for the
Western United States.
He has been involved in dance for more than
twenty years with a background in jazz, tap, power
tap, and clogging. He has been teaching for more
than a dozen years, and directing and coaching teams
for almost as long. Under his direction, the Capital City
Clogging Teams have won multiple championships &
gold medals at the AAU Junior Olympics. His award winning clogging team, Whiplash, was featured on
national television on the Arts & Entertainment Network special “The Competition”, and was crowned
“Top Dogs” on the famous television show “Showtime at the Apollo”.
Harrison is in high demand as an instructor at clogging workshops conducted throughout the nation.
Joel has been a featured instructor at the World of Clogging Workshop in Ohio, the Nickel City Clogging
Festival in New York and the National Clogging Convention, and was the 2005 producer of the National
Clogging Convention Showcase. He has traveled to Japan and Ireland as a member of an International
Clogging Team and performed with ALL THAT in their performances in the Carolina Opry in Myrtle
Beach, South Carolina.
Joel brought that energy to the stage with ALL THAT, adding elements of acrobatics and high-stepping
to the routines that were applauded by the judges and the voters.
“The show was an incredible experience that I will never forget as long as I live!” Harrison said. “AGT
constantly challenged our creativity, our drive and our capabilities. We all felt on top of our game the
whole time. Continually keeping each other on our toes and pushing one another to make sure America
could see that we were stepping our game up with each performance.”
16

The Doubletoe Times Magazine of Clogging
In a season marked by stellar talents in a variety
of entertainment mediums, the guys continued
to impress with their unique talent... an all male
modern clogging troupe.
Harrison said the reality of the intensity of the
competition hit home with him during the taping. “I
remember when it hit me at first,” he said. “I was
standing there with my arms crossed, my nose an
inch away from a sixty by forty foot American flag,
and knowing that, when this flag comes flying up,
It was game time!” Harrison said that the reality of
charging into eleven million living rooms, knowing
that you have one shot and one shot only to win
the viewers and the toughest judges over on what
Howard Stern referred to as “America’s stage”
was motivation for them to give it their all!
He admits being nervous, but said that “the
comfort of knowing seven of your best friends were
right by your side and we were all going through
this together was a rush!”
“I would do it again in a heartbeat,” he said. And
Joel is quick to add that the biggest reward has
been all the positive support from friends, family
and the clogging community as a whole. “We
just want the world to know how cool, unique and
special this amazing sport of clogging is,” he said.

Over the fourth of July
holiday, hundreds of cloggers
and country western dancers gathered
in Washington, D.C. to be a part of the
America's National Independence Day
Parade.
Just days following the devastating wind storm that
swept through the region, the host
hotel was without power with only
hours to spare before groups began
arriving. Another hotel accepted
the group and quickly put together
an opening banquet and practice
session in their grand ballroom. The
dancers adapted to the changes like
troopers and everyone pitched in to
make sure the show would go on.
On Tuesday July 3,
dancers were bussed to the
Lincoln Memorial for a day of
performances for the thousands of
tourists
who crowd the Mall in Washington, D.C. National
Public Radio did a live remote interview with members
of the Sims Country Cloggers from North Carolina,
directed by Jill and AJ Kirby and also interviewed Rob
Pack of the Rhythm N Motion Cloggers of Cookeville,
Tennessee.

Spotlight
Dancing at the Lincoln Memorial had special
meaning for Rob. A member of Rhythm N Motion
since 1999, Rob began dancing with the Evermean
Evergreen Cloggers in 1985 out of Lebanon, TN.
He has danced on the Grand Ole Opry with
both teams multiple times and has
collected numerous awards from all
sanctioned organizations, including
being a member of the 2000
America’s Clogging Hall of Fame
All American Clogging Team.
An injury in 1997 cost Rob his leg,
but he persevered and learned to
dance with a prosthetic. While it
has become more difficult and
has limited his clogging career;
he still is very active with helping
the team. Being interviewed to
represent the dancers was an
especially proud moment for his wife Melissa and
his teammates.
Dancers from all over the country performed at the
base of the Lincoln Memorial. Teams included:
Sims Country Cloggers, North Carolina
Rhythm N Motion, Tennessee
Avery High Smooth Dancers, North
Carolina
Cloggers Unlimited, Texas
City Clickers, Montana
Country Fire Cloggers, Missouri
Mississippi Magnolia Cloggers,
Mississippi
Clogging Craze, Illinois
Rushmore Rhythm Cloggers, South

Teays River Cloggers, Ohio
Country Step Cloggers, Ohio
Pure Country Western Dancers,

Following the performances,
groups returned to their buses to
The Doubletoe Times Magazine of Clogging
tour the city before having an evening
free. One lucky bus had the pleasure of
being invited to the prestigious National
Press Club for lunch and tours by the
organization’s President (and a fellow
clogger) Theresa Werner.
On Wednesday, the fourth of July, the
buses loaded once more to head to the
staging area for the Parade. Despite
the heat of a July day, everyone did
an amazing job of dancing the route
down Constitution Avenue from 7th to
17th Street before a street audience of
hundreds of thousands of spectators.
In addition to the cloggers and country
western dancers, The Parade consisted of

was felt by everyone.
Following the parade, groups were taken

and a variety of ethnic groups.
That evening, parade participants are all
part of the audience of the PBS Concert at
the Capitol Building featuring the National
Symphony Orchestra and one of the
country's largest fireworks displays.
This was the second time that dancers
participated in the event. In 2002, more
than 1,000 cloggers took to the streets
of our nation’s capital in the National
Independence Day Parade. Back then,
the group also spent a day performing at
the Lincoln Memorial, touring D.C. and
laying a wreath and holding a ceremony at
the Pentagon in honor of those fallen on
9/11.
