The Malden community has lost several of our traditional mainstays. Davidson Chevrolet closed its doors this fall. Healthy Malden had to cease operations at the end of the year. Reverend Randy Farrara, Pastor of the First Congregational Church, will give his last sermon January 31st. Many of our members had to make the tough decision to leave the Chamber. We were sorry to lose Representative Chris Fallon & former President Bill Rucci last year. We wish all of you a better 2010, and hope that you will come back and rejoin the Chamber. While change is difficult, there are signs of a bright 2010 for the Chamber. Each of the past few months, we have gained new and interesting members. At our Annual Meeting on January 6th, we will welcome 5 new Board members . Please contact me if you would like to attend. The Chamber has set up an aggressive agenda for 2010, offering a variety of events starting with a breakfast featuring Tim Cahill, State Treasurer and candidate for governor on January 12th. We plan to host a breakfast every other month, and a minimum of 10 Business After Hours events. Our new $45 pass will allow you to attend all of these as well as events we co-sponsor with other Chambers. We also have plans underway to publish a new Directory of Members. We will continue to offer onsite business counseling through S.C.O.R.E. and the Small Business Development Center. This has proven very useful to many start up businesses as well as several of our established members. We want this Chamber to offer something worthwhile to all of our members. As always, I welcome your ideas and suggestions. Call or stop by our office in City Hall. Ted Free Business Services If you or someone you know is starting a business, thinking of starting a business, growing a business, or just running a business there are many options for FREE training and advice. Your Chamber is a site for free, confidential business counseling by SCORE and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) 3 days each month. The SBDC also offers excellent classes and seminars at the Enterprise Center in Salem. Most of these programs are free, and the other charge a small fee. Check out their website at http:// www.enterprisectr.org/workshopschedule113.html COMMISSION FOR RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS We have reinstituted commissions for finding and recruiting new Chamber members. Starting at $50, the size of the commission depends on the size of the organization recruited. In lieu of cash, you may also choose a newsletter insert, a newsletter annual ad, or a $100 discount for a home page button on our website . She performed many of the thankless jobs that no one sees, but are vital to the Chamber. One of those jobs was keeping up with all the events occurring in Malden, and posting them in this space under the “Around Town” banner. She kept us all on our toes, especially me. She will be missed. We wish her all the best! New for 2010 Business After Hours Annual Pass $45 entitles you to unlimited entry to all Business After Hours events sponsored by the Malden Chamber as well as Business Card Exchanges co-sponsored with other area Chambers in calendar year 2010. The potential value of this pass is well over $100, as the one-time charge for members attending these events is $10-$15. Passes are available only to Chamber members. See order form insert.
