✈ About Holstein Aviation
►The business aircraft industry continues to gain altitude albeit still slowly. Total jet and turboprop
transactions increased slightly (+0.3%) in 2014 versus 2013. Used jet sales increased 7.6 percent but
declines were recorded by new jets (-4.2%), new turboprops (-0.3%) and used turboprops (-9.9%). While
not necessarily evenly across all market segments, expectations remain in place that slow but steady
growth will again be the order of the day for 2015.
►A total of 5,751 business aircraft changed hands during 2014, for an increase of 15 compared to 5,736 in
2013. New aircraft comprised 893 of the total transactions last year while pre-owned jets and turboprops
made up the remaining 4,858. Used aircraft accounted for 4,807 of the 2013 sales with new aircraft
accounting for the remaining 929.
►Average days on market for the business jet fleet at the end of 2014, versus that date a year prior,
lowered by 40 from 534 to 494. Turboprops also sold slightly more quickly, recording a nine day decrease
to 543 from 552.
►Across the business aircraft fleet tracked in this publication, individual model Average Asking Prices
ranged from an increase of 26 percent to a 27.9 percent decrease. Versus one year ago, 16 more
aircraft logged market value growth while 11 fewer aircraft recorded declines. Nevertheless, across all
85 models, the average drop was 6.6 percent during the past year. The Bombardier Challenger 601-3R
posted the largest increase while the Gulfstream G-IV logged the greatest loss.
►Aircraft available for sale ranged from 22 fewer units (Learjet 31A) to 16 additional aircraft (Piper
Meridian). Inventory declines were logged by 49 models while 30 saw additional units come on to the
market. Six models had no change.
►Market values continue to behave in a less than conventional manner relative to traditional economic
supply and demand theory. Of the 85 business jet and turboprop models tracked in this publication,
40 had their Average Asking Price move opposite the direction of the number available, which is the
conventional expectation. Both price and availability changed in the same direction on another 39
models. Finally, six aircraft had no change in the number for sale, yet market values increased on three
and decreased on three.
