Issue 3 Page Page2 2 INFORMATION UPDATE Communities can be enjoyed by the tools that help us socialize with fellow neighbors, neighborhood news, and events. Here in Holly Tree, we can be proud of a strong social atmosphere and community events at all the various locations of over 530 properties. Frequently, volunteers deliver flyers to all of the properties and needless to say it can sometimes be a challenge. Thanks to Bill Brett, we have been able to email many residents about upcoming events and local news updates. When email updates include vandalism, lost pets and other time sensitive information, Bill is busy sending out emails to everyone on his list. The address list is still several emails short of the community majority. If a substantial majority is reached, telephone calls of important information to the remainder of residents without emails will be feasible. I strongly recommend for you to email Bill with your email address if you are currently not receiving regular emails involving the community and our events. The email you provide can also be a work email or another family members email address. You can email Bill with your address at: website@myhollytree.com or you can simply go to myhollytree.com, then to the contacts page and click on “website feedback.” Let Bill know if you want your address published in the directory as well. As Holly Tree grows stronger, I hope this will help you stay in touch with all the exciting news of our community. John Cummings, 1st VP MY HOLLY TREE Volume 3. Issue 2 Page 2 Project Updates Most of you will find the following to include some old information. Tree homeowners each year and we want to keep everyone up to par. However, we do get a significant number of new Holly As for the new information, we installed Lights, outlets, conduit and electric on one side of Adams Mill Road and Plantation Drive. With the generous help of resident Pat Connelly, we completed the first part of the project in one full day. The opposite side of Adams Mill Road never had entrance lights installed. This side will require extensive drilling of the columns. When a day is set to finish the last of the columns, we will need a third day to tie the electric of all four columns together. When this is complete, we will schedule Lauren’s Electric to set a meter and turn on the lights. As for old information, the project for each entrance renewal can be costly. The preparation to include boring under each road and the install of conduit, water meter, copper lines to supple irrigation systems, and underground utility boxes can average about 2,500. The job at Adams mill road included the boring of three roads to include underground materials at a cost of about 5,000. This does not include running the electric, Light fixtures, irrigation for flowers and a cleanup of the surrounding lawns to include grading and seeding. Additional materials to include the light fixtures, bases and bulbs, cost us around 160.00 each whereas various commercial light fixtures are near the 300. dollar range for each one. Another cost includes the electrical wire, outlets, outlet boxes, meter base, grounding rod, etc. The running of the wiring has been free at a savings of about 2000. per entrance (this is based on a 2,500 dollar bid for the Camelot entrance). We will complete each entrance with the install of irrigation for flowers and mulch the flowerbeds. When each entrance is finished, the renewal can cost between 5 and 7 thousand dollars. Finally, at considerable savings to the neighborhood by using volunteers, the entrances will take some time to complete. Much of the final work is with volunteers from the beautification committee’s garden club. As a reminder, our dues are 120 a year with 10 managed entrances. Similar communities such as the Carrington Green community have dues of about 190 a year with only 2 managed entrances. Considerable funds go to pay the electric bill for our streetlights and maintenance (to include regular grass cutting and trimming of each entrance and surrounding areas). With the help of many volunteers, and your support, Holly tree will have entrances to be proud of, increased property values, and continue to be the best place to live in Greenville. The author has an outrageous sense of humor that will make the reader chuckle out loud. Bill Myers engages the reader with comedy, action, and suspense all while providing the young reader with clear teachings. The books center around Wally McDoogle, a charming, but rather clumsy young teenager whose adventures, although unintentional, are simply hilarious. You can hardly wait to see what happens to poor McDoogle next. The quirky titled “My Life” series books are perfect for today’s youth. Lianne R. Cummings, Reviewer These books are very funny with Wally and his friends, Opera & Wallstreet-and new characters with every book. I think kids will like these books. J. School is out and the weather is finally warm. It is time to enjoy outdoor activities like swimming, boating and chasing fireflies. The board and committee members have been hard at work during the past 6 months. Irrigation has been completed at the Old Town Way and Lancelot Entrances. Soon the Beautification Committee will have colorful plants established at those entrances. John Cummings and Pat Connelly are currently working on the two Plantation Entrances at Adams Mill Road. Unfortunately, they have hit a few snags. The columns and roadway have not been so easy to negotiate. We are hoping to get electricity on both sides by this Fall. So keep your fingers crossed. If you can lend a hand, please call John Cummings. It is almost time for the Annual Yard Sale. Liliana is hard at work getting Goodwill lined up for pick up and the advertising set. So get your treasures ready for July 23rd. We are also currently delivering the new Directories so please check your front door for your issue. We still have a lot on our plate to accomplish. If you have a few hours you can volunteer to a project, please contact a board member or myself. We can use the help. Hope to see you soon.
