Artist for the 2015 Triennial Conference
Katrina Cox, Soprano
Katrina L. Cox, Soprano will be performing
on the Artist Concert of the 2015 Triennial
Conference. A native of Laurel, Mississippi
she earned her Bachelor of Music degree from
William Carey University and was a member
of Omicron Sigma Chapter. While at William
Carey she performed extensively with the William
Carey Chorale, Carpenter’s Wood, Carey Theater,
and also placed in NATS competitions.
After finishing her bachelor’s degree, Katrina
was accepted into State University of New YorkBinghamton (Binghamton University). Katrina
earned her Master’s Degree in Voice with a
specialist in Opera. While earning her master’s
degree she performed with Tri-Cities Opera as well as the Big Band Jazz
Ensemble, and sang in a Master Class with tenor, Nico Castel. After earning
her master’s degree, Katrina was accepted as a studio artist with Opera North
in New Hampshire. While there, she performed the role of Frau Fluth in
“Merry Wives of Windsor,” performed in a Master Class with Claudia Waite,
and sang in the chorus of “Turandot” and “Falstaff.”
After returning from New Hampshire, Katrina started a jazz band called,
“The New Standard.” The band performed in various venues throughout the
Southern Tier. Katrina has also sung many oratorio, requiems, and recitals at
Westminster Presbyterian Church in Binghamton, NY. Katrina moved back
to her native town of Laurel, MS where she is now teaching elementary music
and private voice, as well as a singer at First Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Meet the Conference 2015 Co-Chairs
Delta Omicron has selected Tina Davis and Melissa Legutki to serve as
Co-Chairs of the 2015 Conference.
Tina McLellan Davis was initiated into Alpha Psi
chapter of Delta Omicron at Newberry College in Newberry,
SC. While there, she held the offices of Publicity and First
Vice President. She has served Delta Omicron as Eta South
Province President, Eta North Province President and
as Rotating Grants Chair. She is currently the Province
President for Eta North again. She served as co-chair of the
Centennial Conference in 2009, Conference 2012, and is
looking forward to volunteering her services again in 2015.
In August 2013, Tina auditioned and was accepted as a member of the Charlotte
Bronze Handbell Ensemble. This community choir is the largest of its kind in
Charlotte and she currently serves as their Vice President. Tina is also a member
of the Sharon Ringers Handbell Choir at Sharon United Methodist Church in
Charlotte, NC, where she learned to play when she was just 10 years old! Tina also
helped initiate the start-up of the Glory Youth Ringers at Sharon Methodist and,
along with 2 other directors, enjoys directing and teaching these young ringers.
Tina currently lives in Fort Mill, SC, and works in Charlotte, NC in the office of
a residential real estate appraiser supporting five appraisers. Tina has been married
since 1996 to Brad, has a son, AJ, and a daughter, Marla.
Melissa Legutki is a graduate of Illinois State University,
Normal, IL and was a member of Omicron Omega Chapter.
She graduated with a Bachelors of Music Education. She
completed a Masters in Music Education at the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed the English
Language Learner endorsement from Benedictine University,
Lisle, IL. Melissa has taught Kindergarten through Twelfth
Grade Music. She currently lives in Villa Park, IL with her
husband and two daughters and teaches middle school band
at Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines, IL.

National Patron Inducted
Dr. Dan Forrest
Dr. Dan Forrest, composer and pianist, was inducted
as a National Patron of Delta Omicron at the First Baptist
Church of Jefferson City, Tennessee on Saturday, November
15, 2014. He was inducted by Ann Jones, Past International
President and Chapter Adviser of Alpha Gamma Chapter at
Carson-Newman University. In attendance for the induction
ceremony were Alpha Gamma Chapter members, alumni of
Delta Omicron, the Knoxville Choral Society, and the choral
forces of the Carson-Newman University Music Department.
A certificate, National Patron pin and a gift were presented to
Dr. Dan Forrest following the ceremony.
Dan Forrest has been described as “a composer of substance” (Columbia Dispatch)
whose works have been hailed as “…magnificent, very cleverly constructed sound
sculpture” (Classical Voice) and “superb choral writing….full of spine-tingling
moments” (Salt Lake Tribune). In the past decade, Dan’s music has become well
established in the repertoire of choirs in the US and abroad. Dan’s choral works
have been premiered in major venues around the world. He holds graduate degrees
in composition and piano performance and is active as a composer, educator, and
pianist.
Dr. Forrest held a workshop at Carson-Newman University from November 1416, 2014. The workshop was for students, composers and church leaders. The Ball
Institute of Church Music in the Music Department sponsored the workshop. Many
of his choral numbers were sung in reading sessions. Young composers were able to
present their compositions for review. Dr. Forrest provided his special rendering of
what it means to be a composer and some of his guidelines in composing.
The choral works rehearsed at the workshop were performed at the at the
Tennessee Theater in Knoxville, Tennessee on November 16, 2014. The concert
at the Tennessee Theater featured the choral forces of the Music Department and
the Knoxville Choral Society under the direction of Dr. Eric Thorson, Director of
Choral Activities at CNU and Chapter Patron of Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta
Omicron. Selections of Dr. Forrest’s advent choral music were performed along with
a solo piano and orchestra number and after the intermission “Requiem for the
Living.”

Alpha Gamma’s Second Annual Halloween
Benefit Concert a Spooky Success

After the incredible reception of Alpha
Gamma’s “Halloween Musicale and Fall Festival”
in fall 2013, the chapter could not wait to start
planning the next Halloween Musicale. Alpha
Gamma raised over $500 in 2013 for the Joy
of Music School in Knoxville, Tennessee. The
chapter also received the “Program of the Year”
award from Carson-Newman University, as well
as an award from the Professional Fraternity
Association.
The night of their 2014 Halloween Musicale
started off with the musicale, which featured
almost all of the members of Alpha Gamma.
This musicale focuses on character pieces that
can be performed in costume. The first number was a group ensemble that sang “Seasons
of Love” from Rent. Some other favorite acts of the evening were Katie Russell as a witch
singing “I Put a Spell on You,” Augie Gil and Greg Henry as Genie and Aladdin performing
“Friend Like Me,” and “For Good,” Seth Sheffield and Ben Archer’s duet. Each member that
performed on the musicale brought a unique twist to their song with their costume and
interpretation.
After the musicale, the lobby of the Tarr Music Center was decorated and ready for a
Halloween party. Members of the chapter ran cotton candy and snow cone machines, as
well as games. The most popular attraction of the night was certainly “pie in the face” where
party guests could pay $5 to have their friends and professors pied in the face. There was also
a costume contest that was voted upon by the students in attendance. Katie Russell was the
recipient of a $25 gift card to a local restaurant for her outstanding witch costume. Honorable
mentions went to Josh Hawley as The Joker, and John Davis and Gracie Ellis as Han Solo
and Leia. Fall festival attendees also had a great time line dancing and trick-or-treating at the
various stations set up around the music building.
Overall, the Halloween musicale exceeded the expectations of Alpha Gamma’s members.
The chapter raised over $800 for the music program at Cornerstone Academy, a Christian
primary school in Morristown, Tennessee. The funds raised will go towards purchasing music,
instruments, and a piano for the school.
Alpha Theta Visitation
On November 22, 2014, International President Jennifer Klafeta paid a visit to Alpha
Theta Chapter at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. Lambda Province
President Stephanie Thompson, and Editor of the WHEEL Janet T. Gross also attended the
visitation. Alpha Theta members shared campus concerns and by-law updates, asked questions
about Delta Omicron, and renewed their commitment to the fraternity. An enjoyable time
was had by all!

2014 Summer Scholarship Recipients
Lindsey Byrd was the recipient of the Lorena
Creamer McClure Memorial Scholarship. Lindsey
attended the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North
Carolina where she was one of the fifty college pianists
accepted for the summer program. For three weeks, Lindsey
received weekly private piano lessons and attended various
master classes, concerts, and recitals. She also earned many
performance opportunities and was able to play for her peers
and teacher at weekly studio classes, the local nursing home,
Brevard First Baptist Church, and on the Brevard Music Center Piano Recital. At Brevard
Music Center, Lindsey was able to meet other expert musicians from across the nation and
advance her skills as a pianist.
Lindsey is a senior studying Music Education at Western Kentucky University and is the
president of Omicron Omicron Chapter. She appreciates Delta Omicron’s support of Brevard
and summer scholarships.
Pin-hui Tsai was the recipient of the Hazel Wilson
Bowsman Memorial Scholarship. Pin-hui attended the
International Vianden Music Festival in Luxembourg, a landlocked
country in Europe. The Vianden Music Festival is unique among
Europe’s many summer training programs and provides each student
first-hand experience in performances of chamber music, opera and
musical theater with world renowned musicians and teachers. Pinhui enjoyed the music festival because he was able to work with
many musicians, experiment and exchange musical thoughts with
others, and work on his communication skills speaking English.
He was also able to appreciate the beautiful scenery and culture
in Luxembourg which enhanced the musical experience during his
time at the festival.
Pin-hui Tsai is a music student studying cello at the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a member of Delta Eta Chapter. Pin-hui would like to thank
Delta Omicron for the scholarship to help with the expenses to attend the Vianden Music
Festival.
Natalie Phillips-Perkoff was the recipient of the Mae
Chenoweth Grannis Memorial Scholarship. Natalie
attended a three day instrumental conducting workshop at
Southwestern University under the direction of Dr. Lois Ferrari and
Maestro Peter Bay from the Austin Symphony. She was one of the
twelve assigned movements from Mozart Serenades No. 11 and 12
for Winds and the Petite Symphonie by Gounod. Natalie attended
workshops on score study, ambidexterity, and score memorization.
She was given time in front of a group of professional musicians
to rehearse her music and given daily feedback by Dr. Ferrari and
Maestro Bay. The workshop ended with a public performance
at Southwestern University. Natalie said “Over the course of
three short days I made many new friends, found new contacts in the musical world, and I
reconnected with old mentors. I rekindled my passion for conducting and I refined my skills
using the feedback I got from the institute directors. Everything I learned at the institute
is applied to my daily teaching, rehearsal and conducting of my own students the middle
school where I work. Thank you to ∆O for giving me the opportunity to attend this summer
institute!” Natalie holds the office of Nu Province President in Delta Omicron.

Kelsey Debner is the recipient of the Jane Kuckuk Open
Scholarship. Kelsey attended the Lingua e Canto at Sant’ Angelo
in Valdo, Italy. The Lingua e Canto is an intensive four week Italian
Immersion Course for Opera Singers and the enrollment is limited to
25 singers. Kelsey attended Italian class for three hours every morning,
and spent afternoons and evenings rehearsing scenes, having voice
lessons/coaching and attending master classes. At one master class, she
worked with Met Baritone David Malis, whose insight she found to be
invaluable. Kelsey performed in Sant’ Angelo and several other venues
in Italy. She performed art songs in the Museo Diocesano in Urbania
and opera scenes in the Brancaleoni Castle in Piobbico.
Kelsey is a member of Delta Nu Chapter at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.
Kelsey says, “The experience I gained at this program is immeasurable and I sincerely thank
Delta Omicron for their support.”
Emily Yocum is the recipient of the Dr. Kay Calfee Wideman
Scholarship. Emily attended Songfest, a voice program during the
month of June at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, CA. The
program focuses on the performance and interpretation of art
song and is made up of master classes taught by some of the most
renowned voice instructors, performers and composers in the world.
Emily worked with composer Jake Heggie, composer John Musto,
baritone Sanford Sylvan and soprano Lisa Saffer. Over 300 singers
auditioned internationally and Emily was chosen as one of 80 Young
Artists. While there, Emily was also chosen to perform in a series of
concerts called “Songs in the Key of L.A.” which were held in special
venues around Los Angeles showcasing songs about California composed from 1890-1950.
Emily is a member of Zeta Chapter at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Emily is
very thankful that she received the Dr. Kay Calfee Wideman Scholarship to aid in the cost of
attending SongFest.
Rebecca Johnson is the recipient of the Thelma
Kenison/Helen Aue Scholarship. Rebecca attended the
California Clarinet Clinic in Pacific Palisades, CA last June.
The mission of the California Clarinet Clinic is to offer an
outstanding summer educational clarinet seminar to talented
clarinets age 18 and older which incorporates mind and body
awareness for performance and artistic success. The clinic was
particularly unique because it focused on learning how to
combat performance anxiety. The seminars were both the mental
and physical aspects of performance anxiety and included daily
yoga led by faculty member William Powell, a visualization
workshop lead by psychiatrist Dr. Meredith Duncan, and relaxation techniques lead by music
therapist Ronald Borczon. An Alexander Technique class was also included that focused on
combating the physical toll that hours of practice and performance can have on our bodies.
Rebecca had clarinet lessons with Dr. Heinen, Mr. Powell, Mr. Rodriguez, Mr. Wright, and
Ms. Zukovsky which brought a new perspective to her prepared music. The clinic also offered
the opportunity to work with mouthpiece maker James Kanter and a tour of the Rico Reed
Factory. The week culminated for Rebecca in a performance of the Saint-Saens Sonata for
Clarinet with absolutely no rehearsal to put some of the newly learned anxiety fighting skills
to work.
Rebecca is an alumni member of Gamma Mu at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University in Blacksburg, VA. Rebecca says “The entire week, I felt that I was being educated
as a whole musician. I loved playing for an audience of teachers and new friends who were
all rooting for me, and felt completely empowered as a performer. None of my amazing
experiences at the California Clarinet Clinic would have been possible without the help of the
Thelma Kension/Helen Aue Memorial Scholarship, and I am very thankful for the support of
the Delta Omicron in my professional endeavors.”

Michael Gonzalez is the recipient
of the Ann Anthony Jones Choral/Vocal
Scholarship. Michael attended the intensive
study-abroad program called AIMS (American
Institute of Musical Studies). AIMS chooses
one hundred singers each summer to attend
their program in Graz, Austria. In Graz,
students intensively study music with some
of the best teachers from all over the United
States. Michael studied with Dr. J. David Brock, Chair of the Division of Vocal Studies at
Texas Christian University and Coordinator of the Voice Faculty of AIMS in Graz, Austria.
Michael was also chosen to sing on two masterclasses, one with renowned Helden tenor, John
Trevealen, and the other with the brilliant vocal/lieder coach, Ulrich Eisenlohr. The AIMS
students also performed for each other and in public for the community. Michael attended
masterclasses given by Christa Ludwig, Gabrielle Lechner, and Barbara Bonney.
Michael is member of Alpha Gamma Chapter at Carson-Newman University in Jefferson
City, TN. Michael says “I will forever be changed by my experiences with AIMS and forever
thankful to Delta Omicron for their contribution to my studies!”
Ashton Wheeler is the recipient of the Dorothy
Mazzulla Clark Scholarship funded by Zeta Zeta
Alumni Chapter. Ashton went to Ireland with the Winthrop
University Irish Ensemble. The group stayed in the town of
Glaslough, County Monoagn. The town is on the border
of Northern Ireland and Ireland. The Winthrop University
Irish Ensemble considered themselves lucky to experience
both the Northern Ireland and the Ireland musical cultures.
The goal of the trip was get a better understanding of the
music of the Irish culture. Ashton was taught lessons from
local Irish music professors, listened to local Irish bands, and explored the many sights and
sounds of Ireland. Ashton performed in two music “sessions” which in Ireland is considered a
rehearsal and social function. Musician of all ages and levels attend the music “sessions” and
a good time is had by all. Ashton enjoyed playing his flute and singing during these sessions.
Ashton is a member of the Gamma Kappa Chapter at Winthrop University in Rock Hill,
SC. Ashton says “I am so grateful to have been able to go to Ireland and learn about the way
they live and treat music. This experience has reminded me why I want teach music. I want to
help kids foster the kind of love for music that the Irish have. I cannot wait for the chance to
go back! With the help of Zeta Zeta Alumni Chapter, I got to go and explore this wonderful
country.”

The Delta Omicron Foundation, Inc.
Foundation 2014-15 Educational Grant Recipients
The Delta Omicron Foundation, Inc. Educational Grant Program provides academic tuition
assistance toward collegiate or graduate music study. The grants are awarded annually and are
funded through bequests and donations from Delta Omicron members and chapters, family
members, and friends. Memorial grants are name recognition of members who were dedicated
to service in Delta Omicron. Thirteen grants were awarded for the 2014-15 academic year.
Grace Eunhee Nah Kwak Memorial Grant:
Christopher Grills currently is a candidate for a master of music
degree in historical performance from Boston University. He completed
his bachelor of music degree in keyboard performance at Illinois
Wesleyan University in May, 2014. Christopher is a professional
harpsichordist, clavichordist, and historical keyboard technician. He
studied abroad for one academic year at the IES Institute in Vienna,
Austria. He served as 2nd Vice President of Sigma Chapter at Illinois
Wesleyan University where he was also a member of Phi Kappa Delta
Honor Society for International Studies. He is a member of the Boston
Clavichord Society and has been featured in published interviews on
clavichord for the Joplin Globe and BCS Tangents. Christopher is active in the professional and
academic music community as a continuo performer, composer, organist, and tutor of music
theory and history.
Helen Downie Bishop Memorial Grant:
Mary Anne Davis is a music education major at Central Michigan
University. In the fall of 2014, she completed her student teaching
at Laingsburg Middle and High Schools. She is a fifth-year member
of the Delta Iota Chapter and has served as treasurer, chaplain,
fundraising chair, and two terms as 1st vice president. She spent two
years in the Chippewa Marching Band and was Piccolo Section Leader.
She performed in several ensembles at CMU, including the CMU
Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, and Flute Choir.
Jo Swindall Holt Memorial Grant:
Meghan Clayton is a native of Decatur, Alabama. She is active in
the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Omicron at Carson-Newman
University where she has served as treasurer from 2013-2015. She
is a church music and instrumental performance major with a
concentration in flute. She also is pursuing a corollary major in Spanish.
She teaches lessons to high school and middle school flute students
and assists with flute sectionals for area bands, is the section leader in
the CNU Marching Band, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Ensemble,
and performs with her church orchestra when she returns home. She
participated in the Tennessee Collegiate All-State Band. Meghan plans to continue her studies
in children’s ministries after graduation.
Kay Calfee Wideman Educational Grant:
Allycia Zalac is a senior choral music education major at the University
of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. This year she is serving as secretary of Alpha
Alpha Chapter. She has apprentice conducting positions with the UWSP
Women’s Choir and Opera Workshop. She enjoys musical theater and
recently played Penny in the student production of Dr. Horrible’s SingA-Long Blog. When she is not singing or studying, Allycia enjoys reading,
kayaking, and traveling.

Lenore Harpster Lutz Memorial Grant:
Emily Kerski is a clarinetist currently studying at the Royal Academy
of Music in London, England. A 2013 recipient of the Colorado Creative
Industries Jumpstart Grant for entrepreneurial arts, Emily is a performer,
educator, and arts advocate. She previously studied at Colorado State
University, where she was principal of the CSU Symphony, Sinfonia, and
Opera Orchestras. She also has been a member of the Denver Young Artists
Orchestra, Colorado Clarinet Choir, and Front Range Youth Symphony.
She is an active chamber musician, most recently appearing with Quartet
Atrevido at the 2014 International Clarinet Association Conference. Emily
has premiered over a dozen new works for clarinet. Her performances have been broadcast on
Colorado Public Radio and the Daybreak Morning Show. She has appeared as a soloist with
the Lakewood Symphony Orchestra and Denver Concert Band. At Colorado State University,
Emily was a member of Upsilon Chapter and served as secretary and publicity chair.
Past National Officers Club Educational Grant:
Benjamin Lawson graduated in May 2014 from Virginia Tech
University in Blacksburg, Virginia with a bachelor degree in music
education and saxophone performance. During his undergraduate years,
Benjamin was a member of the Virginia Tech Marching Virginians, the
Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Natural Grooves
Saxophone Quartet. He has been a member of the Gamma Mu chapter
since 2011 and served as Co-Chair of Professional Development from
2011-12 and as Chapter President in 2013-14. Currently, Benjamin is
enrolled in the graduate program at Virginia Tech, working toward his
masters in curriculum and instruction with a concentration in music. He
remains active as a performer in the Natural Grooves Saxophone Quartet and assists with the
marching band. He aspires to be a band director and to continue study toward wind band
conducting or saxophone performance.
Phyllis Iseringhausen Conrad Educational Grant:
Laura Kinney is from Roswell, Georgia and is a senior vocal
performance major at Carson-Newman University where she is serving
her second term as President of Alpha Gamma Chapter. Laura was the
recipient of the Zeta Zeta Alumni Chapter Educational Grant in 201314. This year, she received the Star of Delta Omicron, Outstanding
Junior, Outstanding Leadership, and the Rising Senior Awards from her
chapter. She is a member of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society
and has made the Dean’s List every semester since 2011. She also is
involved in leading worship for RUF, Young Life, and serves as a student representative for
the Carson-Newman Campus Ministries Chapel Planning Committee. With great interests
in speech language pathology and vocal pedagogy, Laura plans to continue her education at
the graduate level.
Robb Fund Memorial Grants:
Anna Bethea is a senior music education major from Fort Walton Beach,
Florida. She attends Samford University and studies clarinet, is a member
of the Samford Orchestra, and plays for the Samford Opera and Theatre
productions. She also is a member of the marching band, jazz band, and has
performed with the wind ensemble. Anna is the winner of Samford’s 2014
Concerto Competition, and she performed the last movement of Weber’s
Second Clarinet Concerto with the Samford Orchestra in March 2014.
She was recognized as the university’s Outstanding Freshman, Sophomore,
and Junior Music Student in 2012, 2013, and 2014 respectively. In May
2014, she was named a Presser Scholar. Anna serves as President of Omicron Gamma Chapter
and is President of the collegiate chapter of the National Association of Music Education.
She teaches clarinet at the First Baptist Church School of Music in Niceville, Florida in the
summer and maintains a private clarinet studio in Birmingham, Alabama.

Andrew Kovaleski studies music history and literature at Otterbein
University. He plays saxophone and bass clarinet and enjoys playing
jazz and classical music on both instruments along with composing
and repairing instruments. At Otterbein, he performs with the music
schools’ newest ensemble Red Noise and also with the Early Music
Ensemble. Andrew has been a member of the Omicron Alpha Chapter
since 2011. Andrew’s grant is directed toward an event he has planned
and coordinated called Saxopalooza--a day-long saxophone festival to
which saxophonists of all ages will be invited to perform in saxophone
ensembles and to attend master-classes and a solo concert by guest artist Debra Richtmeyer
of the University of Illinois.
Chase L. Ramage, a baritone and composer originally from Burna,
Kentucky, is a senior studying vocal music performance and music
theory and composition at Eastern Kentucky University. Since moving
to Richmond, Kentucky, he has performed in many opera productions
and scene programs with the Eastern Kentucky University Opera Guild,
including such roles as Masetto from Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the
Watchman from William Schuman’s The Mighty Casey, and Belcore from
Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. His concert repertoire includes Bach’s Wie
schön leuchter der Morgenstern, Boccherini’s Gloria, Bach’s Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland,
and Charpentier’s Messe de minuit pour Noel. As a composer, he has written many works and
received many commissions, including Three Urdu Songs for baritone Randy Toler, Songs of
Love and the Sea for contralto Hannah Draper-Burnett, and Song of Remembrance for trumpet
player Elijah Pugh. Chase is a member of Alpha Eta Chapter and has served as music director,
1st vice president, parliamentarian, and director of publicity. He plans to attend graduate
school to pursue a degree in vocal performance.
Roxine Beard Petzold Memorial Grant:
Meagan Sullivan finished her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal
performance from Carson-Newman University in 2014 and started her
first year of graduate studies at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga
this past fall. She is pursuing educational licensure and a master degree in
vocal music education. Meagan is an alumna of Alpha Gamma Chapter
and served as its historian, publicity director, and music adviser during
her undergraduate studies.
Roy Underwood Music Therapy Grant:
Rachel Manago is a member of Omicron Omega Chapter at Illinois
State University and has served as music director and president. She
currently is completing her music therapy degree as a music therapy
intern with Seasons Hospice of Chicago. In the fall of 2015, she will
join the professional world as a board certified music therapist. This
is the second year that Rachel has received the Roy Underwood Grant
which is awarded to a student pursuing a music therapy degree. She
writes: “I could not be more thankful for all the opportunities that being a member of Delta
Omicron has given me. I am a better leader and musician because of it.”
Vivian Gibbs Miller Memorial Grant:
Lawren Brianna Ware is a junior piano performance and pedagogy
major at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She is an active
Omicron Gamma Chapter member, serving as historian in 2013-14 and
currently as secretary. She is a member of Samford’s Honors Program (the
University Fellows Program), the Samford University Orchestra, Jazz band,
College Democrats, and Black Student Union. Lawren was awarded third
place in the Fletcher and Nell Morris Piano Competition, graduated from
the Leading Edge Institute (Class XII), served on the organizing committee
of “Samford Gives Back 2014,” traveled to Italy with the University Fellows program, and
toured the Dominican Republic with the University Orchestra and Jazz Band.

Help Restore the Delta Omicron Studio
The MacDowell Colony, located in Peterborough, New Hampshire was founded in 1907
by composer Edward MacDowell and his wife Marian. It is the nation’s leading artist colony
and nurtures the arts by offering writers, visual artists, composers, filmmakers, playwrights,
interdisciplinary artists and architects an inspiring environment to create and produce
enduring works of the imagination. There are no residency fees at MacDowell. The Colony is
supported by contributions and an endowment.
Delta Omicron decided at the 1924 Delta Omicron Convention to build a studio at the
MacDowell Colony, and on August 1, 1928 the Delta Omicron Studio was finished and
ready for occupancy. The Delta Omicron studio is 84 years old now and is in need of major
renovations. The MacDowell Colony has called on Delta Omicron to raise the $170,000
needed to upgrade the heating system, plumbing, and interior and to add more space to the
studio to accommodate the Petzold-Collyer Memorial Piano.
The Delta Omicron Foundation is asking for the support of Delta Omicron chapters and
collegiate and alumni members to help raise the funds needed to make the Delta Omicron
Studio at MacDowell Colony an ideal creative home for future composers once again.
How Chapters and Members Can Help
Just as Delta Omicron Chapters pledged support for the studio construction in 1925,
we now call on all chapters and members to help with this restoration project. Our hope
is that each chapter will donate to the Foundation's Delta Omicron Restoration Project
annually over this triennium as they did years ago. This donation can fulfill and represent
one of your chapter's service or national projects for the year. Chapter and individual member
donations will be recognized in Foundation publications annually and at the 2015 Triennial
Conference. Chapters who donate will be recognized with a certificate of appreciation at the
2015 Conference Foundation Luncheon. Donations may be designated in recognition or
memory of someone.
This studio, affectionately called "Omicron Studio" by resident artist fellows at MacDowell,
bears our proud Fraternity name. Let us together work to insure that it can bear that name

ALPHA NORTH
ZETA OMICRON (Kent-Akron, OH) To quote chapter publicity director Carol Klohn, “Zeta
Omicron held its annual tea on April 27 at the Patton House in Kent.” The tea was hosted by chapter
members Maryalice Seaholts and Adele Fussner. The 2013 Zeta Sigma and Zeta Omicron scholarship
winners presented a program, which featured Zeta Sigma winner and Kent State University (KSU)
junior music education major Chelsea Hilliard singing Richard Hundley’s Come Ready and See Me and
Zeta Omicron winner and KSU voice major Katie Bretz singing Kommt ein schlanker Bursch from Carl
Maria von Weber’s Der Freischütz. Both singers were accompanied by Zeta Omicron Penny Graves. On
August 16, members of Zeta Omicron met up with members of Zeta Sigma for a joint picnic and
concert at Blossom Music Center. Members from both chapters enjoyed Jahja Ling conducting Yo-Yo
Ma performing Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, the overture from Bedřich Smetana’s Prodaná nevěsta (The
Bartered Bride), and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 6. Zeta Omicron held its first meeting for 20142015 on September 16 at the home of hostess Michelle Worthing with Sara Burky serving as co-hostess.
The meeting’s musical program was a sing-along from the Delta Omicron songbook led by Seaholts and
accompanied by pianist Terry Schoettler. Zeta Omicron awarded a $500 scholarship to Summer Canter,
a bassoon major at KSU. The chapter also donated $100 to the Margaret Baxstresser Annual Piano
Concert Endowment fund of the Tuesday Musical Club Association of Akron, Ohio.
ZETA SIGMA (Cleveland, OH) Recently, Zeta Sigma presented a $500 scholarship to Kent State
University junior music education major Chelsea Hilliard. The chapter also donated $100 to Kira Boros
to help with her expenses when she travels to Switzerland with Cleveland’s Singing Angels as well as $100
to the El Sistema program at the Rainey Institute. Zeta Sigma recently presented a program of mostly
American music to the residents of Sunrise in Parma, Ohio. On May 31, members of Zeta Sigma and
their spouses met at Burbtwood Tavern in Brecksville, Ohio for the chapter’s annual spring luncheon.
On August 16, members of Zeta Sigma and Zeta Omicron met at the Blossom Music Center for a
performance conducted by Jahja Ling featuring Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto with soloist Yo-Yo Ma.
ALPHA SOUTH
ZETA (University of Louisville, Louisville, KY) In October, Zeta held a pumpkin carving social for
chapter members. The following week, Zeta hosted the University of Louisville’s second annual School
of Music Halloween costume contest. Winners were chosen by faculty members at the annual Orchestra
Spooktacular contest, and Zeta provided the decorations. The second place winner in the contest received
candy and the contest’s first place winner won a $25 cash prize and candy. On October 31, Zeta provided
a free photo booth for the School of Music, providing props and costumes for the photos.
ZETA CHI (Dayton, OH) Several musicians from Zeta Chi performed for programs at meetings: in
April, chapter member Nancy Harrison presented a flute recital; in June, two students who were awarded
Zeta Chi college scholarships performed; in September, another student who was awarded a scholarship
performed. June and September meetings included covered dish picnics.
BETA PROVINCE
ZETA ALPHA (Detroit, MI) Zeta Alpha’s April 6 meeting, which doubled as Beta Province Day,
included Zeta Alpha Laurie Zeller’s performance of two Edward McDowell etudes, presentations about
elementary music activities and feminism in music given by professors from Central Michigan University,
a luncheon, and Delta Iota Chapter initiation. Pat Mazure and Nancy Meyette co-hosted Zeta Alpha’s
May meeting, which included a program of vocal and piano works featuring “Träumerei” by Robert
Schumann, Total Praise by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and Lean on Me by Bill Withers. Zeta Alpha
met in June for an outdoor potluck picnic at the home of Mary Chisholm. In September, Zeta Alpha met
at the home of Mary Ann Pilette for a luncheon and meeting.
GAMMA PROVINCE
UPSILON (Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO) At the beginning of the school year, Upsilon
has held a back to school get-together.
ZETA ZETA (Denver, CO) On April 13, Zeta Zeta gathered at the home of Mary Forester. At the
meeting, Upsilon Chapter Scholarship winners Matt Banks, alto saxophone with special guest Mark
Thompson, bassoon, and Arthur Beutel, baritone, accompanied by pianist Karen Stoody, performed.
Chapter President Karen Harris presented Treasurer Rose Blaschke and Vice President Judie Eidson with
“50 Year Pins,” recognizing their long tenure in the fraternity. Zeta Zeta’s May 18 musicale featured
a tribute to Chapter Patron William Kearns. Chapter President Harris presented a citation from the
National Office of Delta Omicron that recognized Kearns’ work as an educator, arranger and composer,
and leadership as the first Director of the American Music Research Center. The musicale program,
dedicated to Kearns and his late wife, Sophia, included performances by several Zeta Zeta members: Penny
Anderson, soprano, Grace Asquith, piano, and Ginger Hedrick, flute, performed works by Alessandro
Scarlatti, Giulio Caccini, and Franz Schubert; Suzanne Barchers, flute, performed a piece by C.P.E. Bach;

Judie Eidson, soprano, and Tanya Weir, piano, performed a piece by Robert Wright and George “Chet”
Forrest; Weir performed a piece by J.S. Bach; Asquith and Marlena Hooker Moore, mezzo-soprano,
performed several pieces, including works by James P. Dunn, Celius Dougherty, Alessandro Parisotti,
and Roger Quilter; and Stephanie Morrison, piano, performed a piece by Louis Gottschalk. During
the summer, Zeta Zeta convened for the chapter’s annual picnic and DO Quiz at the home of Chapter
President Harris. During the event, Harris presented a “50 Year Pin” to chapter member Carolyn Shaak.
DELTA PROVINCE
SIGMA (Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, IL) On September 7, Luke McLoughlin played
piano at Sigma’s meeting as a closed musicale. Later that month, on September 19, Sigma and Illinois
Wesleyan University’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota held a joint informational rush meeting for those
interested in joining the fraternities.
OMICRON OMEGA (Illinois State University, Normal, IL) Several members represented Omicron
Omega at the Music Registered Student Organization night in order to pique the interest of Illinois State
University’s music students. Omicron Omega held two rush events this semester: an information and
bowling night on August 28 and game night on September 11. On October 26, Omicron Omega
cleaned Illinois State University’s practice rooms. Omicron Omega held a “Penny Wars” fundraiser
between studios in order to raise money to send delegates to the Triennial Conference. Chapter Publicity
Director Samantha Kubil has been hard at work this semester so far, creating a bulletin board in the music
building hallway as well as Omicron Omega’s Facebook page and website.
ZETA SOUTH PROVINCE
GAMMA MU (Virginia Polytechnic University and State University) On May 4, chapter members
Sarah Lanum, voice, Ben Lawson, alto saxophone, Olivia Stansbury, flute, and trombone trio Caleb
Copeland, John Dever, and John Milson performed in a closed chapter recital. Prospective members
in September included “Deets Night,” an ice cream social at Deets dining hall, game night, bowling at
BreakZone on the Virginia Tech campus, watching an Ohio State football game, formal rush, and Bigs
Reveal. This semester, Gamma Mu participated in Phi Beta Phi’s “Dodge the Arrow” fall philanthropy
event and Pi Kappa Phi’s “Ability Experience Carnival,” which sought to give those with learning
disabilities the opportunity to experience something new. Gamma Mu provided percussion instruments
for Pi Kappa Phi’s event as well as swag maracas, harmonicas, and other musical toys. The chapter also
volunteered at the Pulaski County Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association marching band
festival.
ZETA WEST PROVINCE
OMICRON OMICRON (Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY) Omicron Omicron
provided popsicles for the Western Kentucky University Big Red Marching Band during their band
camp rehearsals in order to provide a service to the ensemble as well as introduce Delta Omicron as an
organization on campus. Omicron Omicron’s first rush event of the year was the chapter’s annual “Messy
Games,” for which the chapter played “Messy Twister,” with jelly and other condiments for the board
spots and “Fruit Ball,” baseball with fruit replacing the ball. Prior to the rush event, chapter member
Courtney Garza hosted Omicron Omicron at her apartment to bond and make t-shirts.
OMICRON PSI (Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN) This semester, Omicron
Psi cleaned the practice rooms in the Saunders Fine Arts Building at Middle Tennessee State University.
ETA NORTH PROVINCE
GAMMA KAPPA (Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC) On September 11, Gamma Kappa
performed in a joint open musicale with Winthrop University’s chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. The
chapters presented a combined concert edict skit, performing a mock recital with intentionally incorrect
concert behavior followed by an explanation of proper concert edict. Gamma Kappa performers included
Jennifer De Santis, Chris Folk, Austin Gantt, Nick Glick, Leianne Johnson, Chris Murray, Katelyn Nash,
Jordan Toran, and Ashton Wheeler. Folk, Gantt, Johnson, and Nash also performed in Gamma Kappa’s
closed musicale, “Musical Musicale,” featuring pieces from musicals. On September 14, Gamma Kappa
invited students from the music department to go bowling, providing rides and bowling fees.
THETA PROVINCE
DELTA CHI (University of Nebraska at Kearney, NE) In May, Delta Chi painted three practice
rooms in the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s Fine Arts building. This semester, Delta Chi sold music
major t-shirts with two different designs.
IOTA PROVINCE
OMICRON GAMMA (Samford University, Birmingham, AL) On September 16, Omicron
Gamma announced the chapter’s Sweetheart and Big Brother.

DELTA TAU (The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA) In September, Delta Tau held
a closed musicale featuring a piano and voice solo, guitar and voice solo, and a solo oboe performance.
Delta Tau’s ongoing service project involves helping local elementary school students learn how to
play recorder, string instruments, and band instruments. Delta Tau put music stands in practice rooms
across the campus of the College of William and Mary. On September 7, Delta Tau held a recruitment
information session with William and Mary’s chapters of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Nu Kappa Epsilon.
The chapter pinned four prospective members on September 14. In October, Delta Tau had a closed
musicale featuring performances by Emily Chrisman, Leo Ciarlone, Emily Harmon, and Gabby Steinfield.
ALPHA THETA (Frostburg State University, Frostburg, MD) On November 22, 2014, Alpha
Theta Chapter had a visitation from International President Jennifer Klafeta, Lambda Province President,
Stephanie Thompson, and Delta Omicron WHEEL Editor Janet T. Gross.
MU PROVINCE
ZETA DELTA (Milwaukee, WI) On May 18, Zeta Delta gathered at the home of Judy Holterman
for the chapter’s annual potluck salad luncheon and meeting. According to Zeta Delta Publicity Director
Joan Reiss Stevens, “The food was great and we met and chose our officers for the following year. We
were then entertained with a flute and clarinet duet by Grace LaRayne and prospective member Donna
Bizub.” Zeta Delta members donated used musical instruments, sheet music, CDs, and music books for
the chapter’s rummage sale, organized by LaRayne held June 28-29. Chapter members Holterman, Joan
Luetzow, and Dulcie Shoener worked at the sale, which netted $150 for Zeta Delta’s scholarship fund.
Leftover choral music was donated to Concordia University and additional sheet music and books were
donated to Delta Eta chapter. To quote Stevens again, “We had a terrific surprise for our annual summer
picnic on July 29. Gregoria Suchy, former music professor at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee
and former Delta Eta Advisor and her daughter Jesssica, harpist and also a Delta Omicron alumna,
attended. We gathered on [my] backyard deck for a cookout and had a great afternoon.”
NU PROVINCE
OMICRON BETA (Lamar University, Beaumont, TX) At the beginning of the fall semester,
Omicron Beta combined forces with Florida Southern College’s members of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia,
Kappa Kappa Psi, and Tau Beta Sigma for a music fraternity meet-and-greet. On September 28, chapter

pinning.
EPSILON IOTA (Austin College, Lamar, TX) Epsilon Iota held a fundraiser at CherryBerry Frozen
Yogurt in Sherman, Texas for which 10% of profits earned in a five-hour window were donated to the
chapter. Some chapter members went to hear the Dallas Symphony Orchestra perform Mahler’s 9th
Symphony under the direction of Jaap van Zweden. While there, attendees represented Delta Omicron
by posing as the Greek letters.
XI PROVINCE
ALPHA PHI (Florida Southern College, Lakeland, FL) Under the guidance of Alpha Phi Chapter
Patroness Jo Jossim, Alpha Phi began an initiative to raise money in order to award a full scholarship
for a student attending the annual summer Florida Southern College Band Camp. On September 20,
the chapter had a day of bonding, enjoying a variety of activities, closed musicale, and song rehearsal.
According to Chapter Publicity Director Sophie Trottier, on September 24, “[We] hosted a ‘ped’ding
zoo for 5th graders at Robert’s Academy, a school for the dyslexic at Florida Southern College. We had
[students] come to our weekly student recital. They then rotated through five stations: woodwinds, brass,
percussion, voice, and strings. We showed them instruments and the children were able to try different
ones!” Alpha Phi held a Disney-themed open musicale on September 25.
OMICRON PROVINCE
DELTA SIGMA (Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA) In September, Delta Sigma
held both Informal and Formal rush events. Prospective members Alexandra Clark, Ashley Cuciti,
Sydnee Elder, Anthony Sanko, and DeQuan Stubbs were pinned on September 25. At the chapter’s
September 28 meeting, Delta Sigma members Ben Bugale, Kaitlyn McGilvray, Hannah Primrose, Jon
Walker-VanKuren, and MacKenzie Watkins performed. Delta Sigma established a “Member of the Week”
recognition program to boost chapter morale and foster fellow member appreciation. The chapter also
promoted Delta Omicron by setting up a table display on IUPDAY.
GAMMA PI (Moravian College, Bethlehem, PA) This semester, Gamma Pi attended the USG/AST
Arts Fest.
EPSILON ZETA (Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, PA) For a closed musicale, chapter
members Carley Adams and Travis Clark performed a piano and drum duet at Epsilon Zeta’s September
8 meeting. On September 27, Epsilon Zeta took a trip to see chapter member Kayleigh Verno perform
in The Addams Family Musical at the Grand Theatre in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania.

ADJUDICATING
During the spring, Zeta Chi Linda J. Snyder served as a guest adjudicator for five singing
competitions, four of which were sponsored by the Great Lakes Region of the National Association of
Teachers of Singing.
AWARDS AND HONORS
In April, Zeta Omicron Terry Schoettler was part of the winning team in a spelling bee, a benefit
for the Portage Literacy Coalition. According to chapter publicity director Carol Klohn, “Each threemember team was sponsored by a local business; Terry’s team was sponsored by the Northeast Ohio
Medical College. The Literacy Coalition is an organization which offers adults a second chance to achieve
basic skills in reading, writing, mat, job readiness, G.E.D. preparation, and more.”
In March, Zeta Chi Marcia Woods was recognized by the United Way of Dayton as its Volunteer
of the Month. In May, Zeta Chi Mary Fahrenbruck was voted Professor Emerita by Central State
University, where she taught fulltime from 1976 – 2006. Zeta Chi Virginia Miller recently retired
from forty-five years of teaching private flute studio lessons.
Zeta Alpha Carmen Carpenter was honored at St. Timothy Church at a concert called “Only
What You Do for Christ Will Last.” In addition to music, the event, sponsored and presented by the
Grace new Covenant Church of Detroit, included a dinner, flowers, and gifts in tribute.
Omicron Psi members Rebecca Buckley, Garrett Doo, Rebecca Easley, Daniel Elliott,
Anna Gallagher, Anna Ketron, Megan McKinney, Corynn Moore, Katiana Nicholson, and
Kali Poore all received Hope Scholarships. In addition, Buckley, Doo, Elliott, McKinney, Poore,
and fellow Omicron Psis Tabitha Atchley and Kellie Whitacker received Music Scholarships. Doo,
Easley, Moore, and Poore also received Presidential Scholarships. In addition, Easley received a
Rotary Scholarship, the Middle Tennessee State University School of Music Outstanding Achievement in
Horn award, and was recognized as a College of Liberal Arts Senior Honor Student. Nicholson and fellow
Omicron Psi Lindsey Tedford received Band of Blue Scholarships. Nicholson was also named a
Buchanan Scholar. Fellow Omicron Psi Elizabeth Myers received an Academic Excellence Scholarship.
Omicron Psi Chapter Patroness Deanna Little received a Public Service Grant to help kick start
the Murfreesboro Community Flute choir. The ensemble, composed of 25 members, performed its first
concert in August. Little also received a Faculty Research and Creative Project Grant for a CD entitled
Inspirations from TN, featuring new music by Tennessee composers inspired by the music and lyrics of
Dolly Parton.
Omicron Gamma members Abby Head, Tabitha Ivey, Jordan Kirchner, and Torrie
Richardson made Dean’s List in spring 2014.
Recently, Omicron Gamma Anna Bethea was recognized as a Presser Scholar and received the
Kappa Delta Pi Jerry Robbins Instrumental Scholarship.
Sharon Mays of Omicron Gamma received the Barbara Stevens Price Church Music Scholarship,
presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding progress in music studies in both academic
and performance areas. This summer, Ashley Blankenship, Sharon Mays, and Ellen Mitchell,
Omicron Gamma members who are also members of Samford University’s A Cappella Choir sang with
the ensemble when it won second prize for mixed choirs in the Florilége Vocal de Tours, International
Choral Competition held Florilége, France as well as the Prix À Cœur Joir International, awarded to a
non-French speaking choir for excellent French diction. The A Cappella Choir also was awarded third
prize as well as recognition for the best interpretation of a piece written after 2000 in the Ave Verum
International Choral Competition held in Baden, Austria.
Omicron Beta Director of Musical Activities Dorian McCall was named one of 26 semifinalists in
the 2014 Classical Singers Convention Auditions.
COMPETING
Recently, Zeta Alpha Mary Ann Pilette displayed “Petal Bouquet,” a watercolor pencil drawing of
a bouquet of flowers, at the 61st annual Lakeside Palette Club competition.
COMPOSING
Zeta Omicron Sharon Dobbins Alberson presented her musical, The Trial of Job at the Medina
United Church of Christ (UCC) and the Trinity UCC in Canton, Ohio on September 28. Fellow Zeta
Omicrons Carol Klohn and Michelle Worthing performed in the productions, with Klohn
performing the role of Job’s wife and Worthing playing flute in the pit. Both performances were given
for free will offerings, which were donated toward local charities and outreach programs.
CONDUCTING AND DIRECTING
In June, Zeta Sigma Patricia Lawrence led the sacred choir The Grateful Praise in a program of
anthems and group-sung hymns.

Zeta Chi Susan Carlock led the choir and actors at Spinning Road Baptist Church in Kettering,
Ohio in Bow the Knee, an Easter musical, on Easter Sunday. Carlock also recently music directed and
accompanied a student production of Gypsy at Wright State University.
Recently, Omicron Psi Chapter Patroness Deanna Little conducted the College Flute Choir at the
National Flute Association’s annual convention, held in Chicago.
LEADING
On July 12, Zeta Sigma Ann Droste hosted a day of flute choir sight-reading in her garage. Fiftyone flutists attended, playing piccolo, E-flute, alto flute, contra-alto flute, and bass flute!
In July, Zeta Chi Linda J. Snyder was installed as President-Elect of the National Association of
Teachers of Singing at the national convention, held in Boston, MA.
Omicron Psi Corynn Moore serves as President of Middle Tennessee State University’s chapter
of the National Association for Music Education. Moore also serves alongside fellow Omicron Psi
Lindsey Tedford on the MTSU Student Government Association Academic Misconduct Committee.
In addition, Tedford serves on the MTSU University Rules Committee. Fellow Omicron Psi Garrett
Doo serves as Vice President and works in Public Relations for MTSU’s chapter of NAfME.
Omicron Psi Chapter Patron Stephen Smith was named Assistant Director of the Middle Tennessee
State University School of Music in January 2014.
Omicron Gammas Sharon Mays and Ashley Blankenship serve as the President and Vice
President, respectively, of Samford University’s chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.
Epsilon Iota Rizwan Jaganai serves as one of four captains of KangaRaas, Austin College’s
nationally competitive cultural dance team.
After serving as the interim chair of the music department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania,
Delta Sigma Chapter Patroness Stephanie Caulder was named the full-time chair of the department
in fall 2014.
This summer, Gamma Pi Chapter Patroness Blair Flintom oversaw the turnover of the music
library at Moravian College.
PERFORMING
During the summer, Zeta Omicron Michelle Worthing, flute, performed in the pit for a
production of Fiddler on the Roof in Aurora, Ohio and the Weathervane Playhouse’s production of The
Wizard of Oz in Akron, Ohio.
Recently, Zeta Sigma Ann Droste has performed several times in Ohio: on April 13 playing
Domenico Cimarosa’s “Concerto for two Flutes” with Bonnie Svetlik during Sunday worship at Lutheran
Church of the Covenant in Cleveland and again with Svetlik for Antonio Vivaldi’s “Concerto in C
for two Flutes” at Garfield United Methodist Church; playing percussion with the Cleveland Women’s
Symphony for their spring concert on April 27 at Severance Hall in Cleveland; playing flute in a fivepiece combo for The Late Wise Man, a youth musical at Chagrin Falls United Methodist Church; playing
Minuet from Georg Philipp Telemann’s Suite in A Minor, J.S. Bach’s Arioso, John Rutter’s Prelude from
Suite Antique, and Georg Frideric Handel’s Cantileria; performing “Now the green blade riseth” and
“Fantasy on Kingsfold” with the United Ringers Handbell Choir at Hope United Methodist Church
in Cleveland on May 18 and Lutheran Church of the Covenant in Cleveland on June 1; playing flute
with the Lutheran Wind Ensemble’s concerts at Lutheran High School West in Rocky River, Ohio on
May 10 and June 20; playing fife with the Crooked River Fife and Drum Corps as part of the Chagrin
Falls Memorial Day program at the cemetery on May 28 and the Independence Day observance at the
Triangle; playing flute with the Cleveland Clinic Concert Band in their concert on the square in Bedford;
and playing flute with the Hillcrest Concert Band in their weekly summer concerts all across the area.
In May, Zeta Sigma Joan Robertson played Scottish fiddle music at the Beltane Festival at Portage
Lakes State Park. Robertson also sang with the Act II Singers of Solon, Ohio for residents of Grande
Village, Independence Village, the Veils and Solon Point at Emerald Ridge – all in Ohio.
On August 24, Zeta Sigma Mary Ann Obert sang the duet “Laudamus te” from Antonio Vivaldi’s
Gloria with Dar Marlink at United Methodist Church in Berea accompanied by Zeta Sigma Gloria
Wharton.
Zeta members Macy Ellis, Krista Heckmann, Chelsey Jackson, Lora Lambert, Jody
McCaffery, Elayne Parrish, Jessica Pouranfar, Erin Shina, Madison Whelan, and Emily
Yocum performed with the Louisville Orchestra for the ensemble’s production of Carl Orff ’s Carmina
Burana on October 16 and 17. Ellis, Heckmann, Jackson, Lambert, McCaffery, Parrish,
Pouranfar, Shina, Whelan, Yocum, and fellow Zeta member Holly Hankin also performed in a
farewell recital for retiring faculty member Edith Tidwell on October 11.
Zeta Chi Diana Haman accompanied the Tri-County Horth High School graduation and
performed special selections.
In May, Zeta Chi Mary Fahrenbruck played Piano I for the Yellow Springs Community Chorus’
performance of Gioachino Rossini’s Petite Mass. Fahrenbruck also collaborated with Rachel Cox,
violin, for the Dayton Music Club’s benefit concert, accompanied the Dayton Celebration Chorus in
three concerts alongside director and fellow Zeta Chi member Linda J. Snyder, and played keyboard in
the pit orchestra for Vandalia Youth Theatre’s production of Urinetown. Recently, Snyder also sang with

the Dayton Opera Association Chorus in productions of Aida and Russian Panorama.
Flutists and Zeta Chi members Barbara Long, Hilary Toerner, and Marcia Wood performed
prelude music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in August.
On May 7, Zeta Alpha Mary Ann Pilette played a program called “Our Community in Concert”
with the Detroit New Horizons Band at the Detroit Community School.
In August, pianist Lisa Perry Rathburn of Zeta Alpha performed in the orchestra for the Warren
Community Theater’s production of the musical Tarzan.
This summer, Zeta Alpha Kristin Pagels worked for the Disney Wonder show as part of the crew
and performed Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in the talent show, which was put on before an audience of over
1000 people three nights in a row. Pagels also toured Michigan with the East Shore Wind Symphony
this summer.
This summer, Upsilon members Christie Bass and Chris Rodriguez traveled to Europe with the
Denver Young Artists Orchestra.
Zeta Zeta Grace Asquith played piano several times for Chamber Ensemble con Grazia: on April
8 as part of the Second Tuesdays at Trinity Concert Series at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Arvada,
Colorado with fellow Zeta Zeta Ginger Hedrick, flute; on April 16 as part of the Trinity Noon Music
Series, also at Trinity Presbyterian Church, with fellow Zeta Zeta Penny Anderson, soprano; on May
9 for the Little Noon Music Concert Series, held at the historic Brunner House in Broomfield, Colorado
with Hedrick; on July 25 for the Little Noon Music Concert Series for a performance featuring music
of National Patron George Lynn sung by Christina Lynn-Craig, the composer’s daughter; on August
8 for the Little Noon Music Concert Series; on August 22 at the Brunner House with fellow Zeta Zeta
Marlena Hooker Moore, mezzo-soprano; on September 5 at the Brunner House; and on September
17 as part of the Trinity Noon Music Series. Asquith and Hooker Moore also presented a benefit
concert at Sixth Avenue United Church of Christ on May 10, performing works by Georges Bizet, Celius
Dougherty, James Philip Dunn, Gabriel Fauré, François-Joseph Fétis, Gerald Finzi, Richard Hundley,
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Alessandro Parisotti, Roger Quilter, and Franz Schubert. Zeta Zeta Megan
Buness presented a faculty recital with Kevin Kennedy, piano, on April 3 at the King Center Recital
Hall in Denver, Colorado. On April 5, Buness performed with the St. Martin’s Chamber Choir in a
program called “Echoes of Twenty Years” at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Denver. Buness also performed
with The Playground ensemble several times: on April 12, April 26, May 23, May 28 as part of the
Lamont Subscription Series, September 28 broadcast on KUVO 89.3 FM Denver, Colorado station, and
on September 30. Zeta Zeta Judie Eidson played with the Keyed Up Winds Trio in a July 13 service at
Green Mountain Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, Colorado. Eidson performed for the OFC Opera
Fanciers organization twice this summer, presenting “La Pesca” from Serrate Musicali by Gioachino
Rossini with Susan Clark and “My Kind of Love” from I, Anastasia by Robert Wright and George “Chet”
Forrest on July 25 and “Le Chant D’Euryclée” from Ulysses by Charles Gounod and “Autumn” from
Starting Here, Starting Now by Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire, on August 25. Eidson also sang and
played recorder for the Aeolian Music Club in Englewood, Colorado on September 6 with pianist Sally
Johnson. The pair performed works by Gounod and Roger Quilter as well as “Of Wind and Sky and Sea”
by Eidson. Zeta Zeta Karen Harris sang alto and tenor with the Park Hill United Methodist Church
choir in a performance of Antonín Dvořák’s Stabat Mater on August 23.
On September 19, Megan Win of Sigma performed as the pianist for Illinois Wesleyan University’s
Improv Troupe.
Recently, Omicron Psi Faculty Advisor Angela Tipps performed an organ dedication recital for the
1882 Kinson organ recently restored at Athens State University in Athens, Alabama.
Omicron Psi Chapter Patron Stephen Smith had his Carnegie Hall debut, which featured fellow
Omicron Psi Chapter Patron Michael Linton’s song cycle.
Omicron Gamma Abby Head performed in Samford University Opera’s production of Amahl and
the Night Visitors, for which fellow Omicron Gamma Despina Wilson served as the stage manager.
In May, Zeta Delta Joan Stevens accompanied the Park Manor Senior Chorus for their spring
concert series with performances at Palmer House, First United Methodist Church, and Park Manor
Retirement home. Stevens also performed with the Bel Canto Chorus, Bel Canto Boys Choir, and
Milwaukee Children’s Choir in a May 21 performance of Carl Orff ’s Carmina Burana, held in the
Milwaukee Theater’s Grand Rotunda. Stevens sang with the Bel Canto Chorus again when the
ensemble sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the opening of a Milwaukee Brewers game.
On May 18, Zeta Delta Dulcie Schoener, keyboard, performed with the Bay Shore Lutheran
Choir for their performance of Schubert’s Mass in G Major.
This summer, Omicron Beta Dorian McCall performed the role of Simone in the Tidewater Opera
Initiative’s production of Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi in Norfolk, Virginia.
This summer, Delta Sigma members Lisa Belasco, Robert Bildstien, Adam Fladd, Amos
Glass, Lydia Hassel, Mitchel Jerko, Ken Singleton, Matt Smith, Kelly Sue Snyder, and
Samantha Grace Sostak performed with the Summer Stock Theater – Keystone Repertory Theater
in four shows: The Marvelous Wonderettes, Hands on a Hardbody, Sweeney Todd, and The Glass Menagerie.
Delta Sigma Chapter Patron Henry Wong Doe recently performed as a soloist with the Auckland
Philharmonic in New Zealand.
This summer, Gamma Pi Caitlin Clearwater-McGann played with the Newburgh Symphony

Orchestra and Dutchess County Community Orchestra. Gamma Pi Chapter Patroness Hilde Binford
traveled to Leipzig, Germany with students to perform an opera and to study musicology.
PRESENTING AND SPEAKING
National Patron Gary Ciepluch gave the commencement address at Cleveland Institute of Music
on May 18. Epsilon Zetas Carley Adams and Mackie Jacobs host “An Infinite Playlist,” a radio show
hosted on 91.7 FM WNJR and airing on Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. EST.
RECORDING
Zeta Alpha member and voiceover artist Jenny Dixon released two book recordings in October of
The Haunted House and Tess of the d’Ubervilles.
On August, 20 Zeta Delta Dulcie Schoener played piano for the recording of Carthage College
professor Mark Petering’s newly composed Lutheran liturgy, “The Purple Liturgy.”
According to Delta Sigma’s patron report, “[Delta Sigma chapter patron] Henry Wong Doe
recent released his newest CD, entitled Landscape Preludes to rave reviews. The CD features the works of
contemporary composers from New Zealand, where Wong Doe grew up.”
SERVING
Zeta member Jessica Pouranfar volunteers as a music mentor at the Academy of Music Production,
Education, and Development (AMPED), a program for underprivileged children. Pouranfar and fellow
Zeta members Briana Browne and Macy Ellis recently volunteered at Louisville’s Early Learning
Campus, providing music activities and playing instruments. Holly Hankin and Madison Whelan
of Zeta volunteered in a music therapy clinic throughout October. Hankin also volunteered on behalf
of the University of Louisville’s music therapy department at the Annual Fun Festival at Churchill Park
School in Louisville, Kentucky.
Omicron Omicron member Emily Keith is in charge of planning weekly events and programs for
the Best Buddies program, which reaches out to those with special needs in the Bowling Green, Kentucky
area. This summer, Andrea Gray of Omicron Omicron worked as an adult leader for her church’s
HANDS service and outreach camp.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Samford University, a music intern at Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, and as
a Preceptor for a University Fellows Course at Samford University.

The following registration form is for those visiting persons who plan to attend
the 2015 Triennial Conference but who are NOT part of the official personnel
specified by The BYLAWS (i.e., collegiate and alumni chapter business delegates,
music delegates, Board members, Historian, Advisory Council President). Registration
information and forms will be sent directly to the official personnel.
All visitors expecting to attend all or part of the 2015 Triennial Conference must
register. This registration form is due to the Executive Office by June 15, 2015. The
registration fee will be increased by $50 if received after June 15, 2015. Complete
both pages of this form and mail it along with payment to Debbie Beckner, Executive
Secretary, P.O. Box 752, Jefferson City, TN 37760. A meal ticket is required for
attendance at meal functions.
