Here’s how: July 2015 Energy tips How do I sign up? Log in to the Member Portal at flintenergies.com. Go to the My Alerts tab to create your Alerts Profile. If you do not already receive texts, this will allow you to receive them. To text a payment, you must set up a credit/ debit card or e-check profile on Flint Energies’ mobile app or the Member Portal. If you prefer, you may call us at 800.342.3616 to set up your alerts and payment information. How do I begin? When you receive your first text alert from Flint Energies, use the following commands to interact with the system: HELP – Gives you information about the service JOIN – Allows you to start the opt-in process START – Confirms you want the opt-in service STOP – Opts you out of the service BAL – Gives the amount owed PAY – Enter the amount you want to pay MENU – See a list of all the commands RESET – Lets you start over CALL - Delivers the Flint Energies phone number, in case you want to speak to an agent. Did my payment go through? You will receive a confirmation number after your payment. It posts immediately to your account. No smartphone? No problem! Using text messaging, you can check your Flint Energies account balance and make a payment, which posts immediately to your account. You’ll then receive a confirmation number for your payment. Checking, changing or cleaning your filter once a month saves money and extends the life of your home’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. Hire a professional to maintain your heating and cooling system. Check and replace your air filters regularly and arrange for annual maintenance with a qualified technician. By cleaning your air conditioner’s air ducts, you can lower your energy consumption by between 5 percent and 15 percent. Flint Energies recently received recognition in the 2015 Spotlight on Excellence national awards program, sponsored by the Council of Rural Electric Communicators and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Submit your application by the August 7 early bird deadline to be eligible to win an iPad mini. The final deadline for applications is September 4. Marian McLemore, Manager of Public Relations, and Jennie Lacey, Public Relations Specialist, worked on the award-winning entry. Operation RoundUp—Change for the better Every other month the Flint Energies Foundation allocates Operation RoundUp funds to local nonprofits. The Flint Energies Foundation has awarded a total of $3.4 million in Operation RoundUp funds to date, with $35,023 going to the following nonprofits in March. • Taylor County Board of Education was awarded $5,000 to assist with a Mobile Reading Unit. • Macon County 4-H Club received $4,875 to provide food and lodging for summer camp. • Houston Hot Shots Coalition was awarded $3,000 to purchase five Apple Air iPads to be given away during their flu campaign targeted to high school students. • Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia Inc. received July 2015 $4,648 to purchase two automated external defibrillators and four truckloads of gravel for Camp Martha Johnston. • Jay’s Hope Foundation was awarded $5,000 to assist with the expenses of families within Flint’s service area who have a child with cancer. • Westside Christian Academy received $5,000 to assist with the cost to install an Internet pathway for technology, which will provide students with Internet access for learning. • Central Georgia Technical College Foundation received $5,000 to award scholarships each semester for two years to students from Flint’s service area who need and qualify for a scholarship. • 100 Women in Gold was awarded $2,500 to fund five $500 book scholarships to female athletes from Flint’s service area. 22C Meet Michael Hero Senior Warehouseperson, Fort Benning Cooperative cuisine Watermelon Barbecue Sauce 1/2 cup watermelon juice 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup soy sauce 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard 2 garlic cloves, minced 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes Courtesy National Watermelon Promotion Board Stir all ingredients together. Pour enough sauce over vegetables, meat, fish or shellfish to marinate. Cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight. Baste with additional sauce while grilling or broiling. Sauce not used for marinating or basting can be spooned over cooked vegetables and meats. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.
