Monthly Report for July
Dear friends and donors,
Charity organization Serbs for Serbs registered
in the state of Illinois in United States in Jun 2010
by the group of the Serbian youth. Charity
organization Serbs for Serbs is a 501(c)(3) notfor-profit
profit charitable organization. Donation is
tax-deductible
deductible to the extent followed by the law.
On 30th September, 2011 we finally
nally got the letter
from department of the treasury (IRS)
S) with tax
exempt 501(c)3 approval. All donations to our
organization donated from June 16, 2010 are tax
deductible under section 170 of the Code. We are
also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests,
devises, transfers of gifts under section 2055, 21
2106
or 2522 of the Code.
About Us
The mission of Charity organization Serbs for
Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Americans,
Serbs and their friends through planned
projects, social and humanitarian activities in
order to develop and foster better society for
future generations and provide aid for
underprivileged families in need.
Although
there
are
many
humanitarian
organizations and associations, help often doesn't
reach the most jeopardized. Due to unnecessary
administration, missing informationn and slow
decision making, the delivery of aid arrives too late
to the final consumers, or not at all. It is a sad and
embarrassing, but true fact that more than 18.000
children daily die around the world because of
starvation and malnutrition.
ion. There, amo
among us, the
blind and deaf.
We are witnesses of the bad demographic situation
of our nation, decreasing natality, increasing
number of singles, abortions, accelerated aging of
www.serbsforserbs.org 2014
the population and generally bad economic
condition of the households in Serbia, Republic of
Srpska and other countries in the Balkan.
An average couple has "fallen" on one child.
Analysts warn that Serbs will become a minority in
its own country in the following century if the
nation, individuals and government don't wake up
from thee nescient in which they've fallen!
On the other hand, nobody is talking about the
families with many children which grieve by living
in bitter poverty. Occupied by their everyday
struggle for survival, they are being humbly in their
desire for implementing
ng rights which belong to
them. Their life stories, fears and problems are
identical, but almost invisible and unheard in order
to gain the attention of the public, media and even
state. That's why the idea of the Charity
organization Serbs for Serbs arose. The
organization
rganization was formed by a group of young and
trustful people, who are united by the common
vision of helping families blessed by many children
and who are aware of the fact that even a small
help means a lot for those who don't live in a
material excess.
We are united by the humane idea to help the
poorest part of the Serbian nation.
Charity organization Serbs for Serbs try to
revive the spiritless energy of the Serbian Diaspora
which would be able to reinforce people of Serbian
heritage as well as all good people throughout the
world with minimal, but
bu constant monthly
donations.
We hope and believe that there is also a grain of
doing good and that you will join us in the endless
e
struggle against poverty.
God bless and save all Serbian families with many
children and our honored donors who participate in
the noble effort to return smile on children faces.
CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!

Ambitions
Our mission
The mission of Charity organization Serbs for
Serbs is to affect on consciousness of Serbian
people through our projects and humanitarian
activities, in order to develop better society for
future generations.
Why Serbs for Serbs?
We wanted to alleviate impaired spirit of Serbian
people in togetherness and brotherhood help
through humanitarian work and social aid.
Who do we help?
We help Serbian families who live in the Balkans,
have five or more children and live in terrible
poverty. Under terrible poverty we define absence
of one or more basic factors required for living:
food, clothes, shoes, and safe space for living.
www.serbsforserbs.org 2014
Who do we need in organization?
We need members and donors that will secure
financial stability through supporting our
programs and activities in the future. Donors may
join our daily activities within the organization in
order to coordinate our work better. We also need
volunteers ready to donate several hours per week
for actual work within the organization. Activities
of volunteers and their specific tasks would be
determined by the required projects and their
personal interest. From that group of volunteers
we would look for future leaders of organization.
How to donate?

Why do we help?
We believe that there is a basic need for one
human (or a group) to help others in distress. A
help is not only human virtue but also a Christian
responsibility. By focusing our help on families
with many children, we directly affect on their
stirring toward becoming independent from socialdependable government programs.

What are our long term goals?
• family is ready to support itself daily and
manage to pay all required expenses;
• their children are encouraged to continue
with school and raising their own family;
• our donors are satisfied with the activities
and they are ready to help other families;
• our organization is satisfied with the results;
• family is ready in the future to become our
donor and if necessary help other families
that are in need of help.

SFS VISITED THE FLOODED
FAMILIES IN PARACIN
Disturbing photos come from Paracin where members
of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs from
Belgrade with the help of the local priesthood of the
Serbian Orthodox Church made a list of the most
endangered families whose houses were totally ruined in
the floods which hit this town. The plan is to help
approximately 50 most endangered families from
Paracin by delivering the household appliances
Unfortunately, a month after the terrible floods which
hit Serbia and the Republic of Srpska the picture is the
same all over flooded areas. The sanation of the houses
is slow, because it depends upon the drying of the walls
which is a long-term process. Most of the people in
Paracin don't live in their houses, and a part of them
don't have the strength to start repairing the damage. The
primary reason is the lack of money. Even after more
than a month after the floods about 10 families live in
temporary collective lodging without the indication
that their situation could be changed.

Paracin will be the first town to get the contingent of
charity help – over 1.000 household appliances
according to a treaty between SFS, and companies
Tehnomanija and Gorenje.
We call upon all the donors, members, friends and
followers of the organization Serbs for Serbs to
participate in the action FIGHT AGAINST THE
FLOODS which aims at providing the necessary help
for the flooded areas in Serbia and the Republic of
Srpska.

CHARITY BARBECUE IN MUNICH
One of the rare, sunny weekends in Munich was used to
gather about 20 friends on the barbecue and help their
fellow compatriots in Serbia and the Republic of
Srpska hit by floods, and join the project FIGHT
AGAINST THE FLOODS of the Charity
organization Serbs for Serbs.
The meeting was joined by the friends of the Serbian
community, and thus collected the amount of 670 EUR
for flooded families in Serbia and the Republic of
Srpska.
We hope that the gathering will become a tradition and
that more of our friends will join the next time.

SERBS FOR SERBS WITH
FLOODED FAMILIES IN TRSTENIK
Members of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs
from Belgrade with the help of the local priesthood of
the Serbian Orthodox Church visited the most
endangered families in Trstenik whose houses were
totally ruined in the floods.
In the scope of the project Fight against the floods we
plan to help in the beginning about 15 most endangered
families, to whom we shall deliver household
appliances. The photos speak more than words.

SUPPORT FROM THE FOOTBALL
TOURNAMENT IN ZEMUN
In the beginning of July on the field of the elementary
school “Rade Koncar” in Zemun, a football
tournament “Jelovac Coup” was organized. During the
tournament the Serbs for Serbs donor box collected
4.060 dinars of donations.
The organizers of the tournament used the donation for
the project FIGHT AGAINST THE FLOODS which is
being conducted by the Charity organization Serbs for
Serbs in order to help the families hit by the floods in
Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.

LONGIN - THE CHURCH IS KEEPING
OUR IDENTITY
On the American national day, 4th of July, the Serbian
Orthodox Diocese of New Gracanica – Midwestern
America organized a traditional picnic in the port of the
New Gracanica monastery in Libertyville, about 40
miles from Chicago.
On a nice and sunny day several thousand Serbs
gathered. The picnic commenced by the holy liturgy on
10 a.m., which was served by the Bishop Longin.
The host of the picnic were the church municipalities of
St. George from Eastern Chicago, St. Archangel Michael
from Lansing, St. Nicholas from Brookfield, St. Stefan
of Decani from Lelan, St. Sava from Milwaukee and
Holy Resurrection from Chicago.
The honorable guest of the picnic was Vojislav
Mihajlovic from Belgrade, a grandson of Draza
Mihajlovic.
The official part of the program commenced by
intonation the American and Serbian anthems. The priest
Savo Bosanac reminded of the tragic events in Serbia,
and called upon the guests to help our people by
donations.
Slavko Panovic, longtime president of the Serbian
National Defense, welcomed the guests, spoke about
Draza Mihajlovic and greeted Draza's grandson.
Representatives of the Consulate General of the
Republic of Serbia from Chicago, headed by the Vice
consul Milenko Spica collected the donations.
People came from Illinois and Wisconsin. The adults
were talking, while the children enjoyed in sport
activities. The homemade food was served at the picnic.
Local merchants offered their goods, and among the
most sold were the books on Serbian language, by
Serbian authors, and icons.

After them, the guests were greeted by His Grace,
Bishop Longin, who called upon all the guests to pray
together for our people no matter where it lived. He said
that the Church and Orthodox faith kept the Serbian
identity – cross with three fingers, Cyrillic, love towards
the Church, poems and customs. Church is consisted of
people rather than buildings. The Bishop said it was
important to maintain churches, bring the children to
religious education, keep the customs and be grateful to
God, priests and the others who engage themselves
around churches.
He thanked those who built New Gracanica monastery
and the monastery of St. Sava, because the Serbs who
came later had somewhere to come.

VISITING FAMILY STEVANOVIC
FROM GORACICI
Members and friends of the Charity organization
Serbs for Serbs visited on July 11 a seven-member
family Stevanovic from the village Goracici in Lucane
municipality. The family consists of the unemployed
parents Zivorad and Ivana and their five children:
Aleksa (14), Luka (13), Lazar (11), Matija (9) and the
youngest Iva (7).
The flooded ones are not forgotten
The most people gathered around the stand of the
Charity organization Serbs for Serbs. SfS members
offered T-shirts and set the donation box for the flooded
areas and the families in difficult conditions.
Petko Petrovic, marketing director of SfS in USA
says that they collect money on the stand every year.
All the money is being immediately sent to Serbia and
used for the reconstruction of the houses to the families
with many children. But, after the floods, SfS started
helping the people who were hit by it. After that work is
finished, SfS will go back to the standard way of helping
the families. The families receive agricultural
equipment, household appliances, cattle and other
necessities. The organization doesn't give the money,
because it cannot control it. After meeting the family,
making an interview and informing of their needs, SfS
provides the necessities. Everything is 100% transparent,
and the donations, bills, reports and pictures are put on
the website. Since 2005 the organization has helped
about 350 families. During the floods many people
addressed SfS for help.

Mother Ivana asked us to provide them a washing
machine, because the existing one often needs to be
repaired.
SfS plans to provide a new bathroom for this family
within the project Trojka iz bloka, after the tournament
on July 19 on the field Poligoni of Sport - recreate center
Mladost in Lucani.
The family lives in 50m2, and their monthly income
consists of the social benefit in the amount of 19.000
dinars and child benefit in the amount of 10.000 dinars.
They have in their ownership some land, a cow, calf,
three sheep and three lambs, hens and a small garden.
Their current bathroom is very small and in very bad
condition, so we planned to tear down the wall between
the bathroom and the pantry, so that there would be
enough place in the future bathroom.
All the children attend the elementary school in
Goracici, while the oldest Aleksa plans to go to the Food
and Catering high school in Cacak.
The road to the house of the Stevanovic family is in a
bad condition, so on our way back the neighbors offered
us to transport us on a tractor trailer to our car.
We call upon all the firms, donors and people of good
will to participate in the project Trojka iz bloka, and
thus enable the children to live in hygienic conditions
with dignity.

HELP FOR FAMILY DJURIC WITH
NINE CHILDREN
The house of the eleven-member family Djuric in the
village Lacarak near Sremska Mitrovica is full of joy and
children's laughter. Mother Jovanka is 30 years old, and
she is a housewife. Father Todor (37) is an unemployed
mechanic. They have nine children, which makes them,
according to their words the happiest and the poorest
family in Lacarak. Todor emphasized it was important to
be healthy and happy.
They live in a prefabricated house of 60m2 with their
children: Cvija (12), Milos (11), Milan (10), Nemanja
(9), Milica (8), Stefan (6), Mihajlo (4), Ognjen (3) and
Uros (2). Five older ones go to school and to a local
judo club. The family needs 8 loafs of bread and 4 l of
milk every day.
Their income consist of 16.000 dinars of social benefit
and 8.000 dinars of children benefit. They produce
vegetables in the greenhouse for their needs. Since they
received another two greenhouses from people of good
will, they will be able to produce additional vegetables
and sell it. Todor dug a well, and he will set the
irrigation equipment. Former Red star football player
Slobodan Skrbic provided the greenhouses and
additional money (100.000 dinars) for the family with
www.serbsforserbs.org 2014
the help from his friends. The family used the money to
buy a washing machine and a TV. Although an aunt
from Germany occasionally helps the family, it is not
enough. They need 240 loafs of bread per month, in
the amount of 13.200 dinars, 120 l of milk, which is
about 10.000 dinars, and 15 kg of laundry detergent
which is over 2.000 dinars.
The family came into Lacarak from the village
Avramovina near Gradacac in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They bought an old house in Lacarak and built a
prefabricated one, but they don't have enough space in it
now. There was no school in Avramovina for the
children, and it was one of the reasons for moving to
Lacarak.
Members of the Charity organization Serbs for Serbs
visited the family at the beginning of May, and agreed to
help them in the extension of housing, by equipping two
additional rooms in part of the old house. The money
will be provided in the sport manifestation Trojka iz
bloka, and additional money will be provided from the
regular projects of helping the socially endangered
families.

TRACTOR FOR FAMILY RABOTA
FROM PALE
because one of Zdravka's brothers also live in it with his
family (of three children), and they are not sure which
part of the house will be theirs after the divide.
Charity organization Serbs for Serbs in the Republic
of Srpska finished big project of helping family Rabota
from Pale, which consisted in providing an used tractor
(in the amount of 8.500 KM) for their household.
For a while after the war Vlajko was in the business of
demining in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but he is without
job for a longer period. He is working for a wage
occasionally, and Zdravka is picking and selling forest
products. However, their income is not big enough.
Going to country looks as the best option, but they need
agricultural machine.
The family consists of father Vlajko (61), mother
Zdravka (51) and their four daughters: Ana (24), Ivana
(23), Lala (19) and Jovana (12). Ana is a student of
journalism in Pale, Ivana is studying Serbian language,
Lala is in high school for cookery, while Jovana is in
elementary school. Although Vlajko is from Pale, he
used to live and work in Sarajevo. During the war he
flew to Pale and joined the Republic of Srpska Army.
After living in cottage and in rented place, Zdravka's
father replaced his property in the Federation of Bosnia
and Herzegovina for the Muslim house in Pale, which
Zdravka is now sharing with her brothers.
Vlajko has land in his property. He and his wife like
living in the country, so they share a dream of building a
house on the country, purchasing the livestock and
farming, and thus securing the future of their children.
The house in which they currently live is very small,
The daughters found our organization on the Internet,
and Vlajko addressed us directly for help. With the help
of his daughters he found a tractor on favorable price in
excellent condition. He plans to earn for the tractor
appliances. In the beginning he will borrow from others.
He has already started working with tractor, and he plans
to cut down some forest and sell it, and then start
building a house on his land.
Family Rabota thanks all the donors who enabled them
to get the agricultural machine.

BUILDING A HOUSE FOR
FAMILY ILIC
A six-member family Ilic from the village Sebecevo
near Novi Pazar lives in very difficult conditions, in a
dilapidated and run-down house. The roof is worn out,
the walls are dilapidated, and there is also moisture. The
six of them live in a single room most of the time. The
parents are unemployed for several years now, which
makes their financial situation very difficult. Two of the
sons of the Ilic family are great pupils, although they
don't have adequate space for learning. Charity
organization Serbs for Serbs and the Association of
young artists Ras have commenced the action for
building a house for family Ilic, and everyone who wants
to help can join the action by donating on the accounts:
Thanks to the donors and people of good will
worldwide, the building of the new house for family Ilic
has commenced. The ground for the house is located
near the Djurdjevi Stupovi monastery in Novi Pazar.
There are ongoing works on building the foundation of
the house, and there is a need for extra money to

HELP FOR THE FLOODED IN
PARACIN ARRIVED
Charity organization Serbs for Serbs conducted in
Paracin on July 19 and 20 its first big action of helping
the flooded areas. We helped 52 households by
delivering the household appliances in the total
amount of 2.266.650 dinars: 28 washing machines, 26
combined refrigerators and freezers, 23 electric
stoves and 8 freezers. The appliances are from the firm
“Gorenje” with five years of guarantee, and they were
provided thanks to the cooperation of the company
Tehnomanija and Charity organization Serbs for Serbs.
It was delivered thanks to the priesthood of the church
of Holy Trinity in Paracin.
Paracin was chosen as a first location for helping for
their media deprivation, and after Paracin SfS will
continue helping in the flooded municipalities. It was the
first phase of the action FIGHT AGAINST THE
FLOODS, which aims at providing 1.000 household
appliances for about 500 families from Serbia and the
Republic of Srpska to help them restore the lost hope.

Igor Rasula, president of the organization Serbs for
Serbs, said SfS was aware of the fact that the donations
it raised was not big in comparison to the disaster, but it
didn't stop SfS to provide help for families and places in
the scope of the possibilities of the organization.
Paracin was the biggest action in the history of the
organization in the amount of over 20.000 EUR, which
provided help for 52 families, bearing in mind the
hundreds of others which couldn't receive donations due
to the limited funds.
One of the listed families provided the refrigerator for
itself in the meantime, so we planned to deliver the
remained combined refrigerator to another endangered
family from Paracin.
Rasula expressed special thank to the companies
Tehnomanija and Gorenje which delivered the goods
to the final benefactors, and to the priesthood in
Paracin in their help in storage and delivery of
appliances.
We would also like to thank our friends from Villa
Modex which enabled the free accommodation for nine
persons in its apartments during our two day action in
Paracin.

www.serbsforserbs.org 2014
Since we spent 103.328 dinars in renovation of the
bathroom, the rest of the money from the tournament
will be spent in the action FIGHT AGAINST THE
FLOODS, aimed at helping the flooded families in
Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.
Family Milivojevic with SfS members from Nis
The members of the family Milivojevic are: father
Dragisa, mother Mariola and children: Miodrag (11),
Miljana (9), Milidar (7), Milunka (6), Momcilo (4).
The family lived in terrible conditions until six months
ago without electricity and necessities, often without
enough food. The Blic foundation helped them by
providing new beds, closets, tables, chairs and kitchen
elements, and the elementary school “Bubanjski heroji”
bought two beds for the mother and five children. Many
of the problems remained, and one of them was a
bathroom, in which there was only a toilet, so the
children were bathed by warming the water on the stove
and sprinkling.
Bathroom before reconstruction
Bathroom after reconstruction
During July, in the scope of the charity-sport project
“Trojka iz bloka”, we succesfully finished the action of
renovation of the bathroom for the seven-member family
Milivojevic from Nis.
We use this opportunity to thank all the sponsors and
donors of the charity-sport project “Trojka iz bloka”
in Nis, and call them to join us next year as well.

GREAT HELP FOR THE
REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA
Charity organization Serbs for Serbs from the
Republic of Srpska successfully conducted another
great action for helping the flooded areas by providing
dryers for drying the rooms. Thanks above all the
donation of the Serbian center in Brisbane, Australia
which sent in mid-June the help in the amount of 15.000
AUD (19.958,28 KM), we bought total of 25 dryers
Rotek from Vienna, where we found the best offer.
The dryers arrived at the end of June, and were delivered
during July in Doboj (12), Samac (5), Bijeljina (3),
Banja Luka (3) and Prijedor (2).
The medical centers in the Republic of Srpska appealed
that everything needs to be dry prior to the reparation of
the rooms and return of the endangered ones.
After analyzing the situation on the field, visits and
gained data with consultations with the Serbian center
in Brisbane, we concluded that the endangered people
need primarily the help in draining the flooded
rooms.

In order to dry the average house by natural methods it
would take up to six months only on sunny and warm
weather, which would mean that people could return in
November.
The institutions such as Red cross or the state organs
have little dryers in their possession, and their criteria for
delivery are rigorous. There is a possibility of renting,
but most of the flooded can't afford it due to the damage
they suffered.
For that reason we decided to get the dryers. There
weren't enough dryers in the flooded area. Some charity
organizations have already begun providing the dryers,
but not to Serbs.

During the delivery of the dryers we checked whether
the families need something else that they can't provide
by themselves. Therefore, we planned the next actions
for the flooded areas, above all in furniture and
construction material.
Some of the families decided to return to still moist or
wet homes. The people who went to their neighbors or
relatives can't stay there and they decide to return to their
homes, although their health is endangered there.
Some of them decided to dry the houses by setting the
fire inside, although it was forbidden and only conducive
to mildew and various bacteria. In this action, as well as
in the action of helping Doboj, we received help from
the member of the friendly organization, Pavle Maric.
He helped us in our search for the best dryers.
Due to large area we couldn't have commenced the
action without the help of the friends of the organization
who took the devices, delivered them to the families,
explained how to use it, checked and finally took them
to another place.
