Dirksen Parkway, Peoria, IL www.flypia.com Last updated January 8, 2014 2 Venue Layout The Avanti’s Dome is a 76,000 square foot climate-controlled inflated dome sports and event facility. It has an entry building that houses restrooms, a concession stand, offices, and a 3,000 square foot banquet room (which will be in use by FIRST event coordinators). The dome itself is accessed through a revolving door airlock system. It is also accessible through a second airlock with regular doors. Free parking is available in the front lot, as well as in a small back lot. The back lot gives access to a second walk-in airlock and a 15’ x 40’ airlock. Dome staff will be on-hand to operate the rear airlocks as teams unload and load. The rear airlocks are for team use only, not general public access. The floor of the Dome consists primarily of Astroturf with black rubber infill. The infill gives the floor a somewhat cushy feel compared to concrete. When information is available, we will update this document with what flooring will be in the pit area. The Dome is lit by banks of lights around the perimeter that shine onto the Kevlar Dome surface and reflect the light. To help stay within the FIRST schedule each day, the option to streamline the lunch process through preordered box lunches will be available to teams. These lunches will be delivered inside the Dome where a mentor can pick them up and distribute them to the team to eat. The box lunch order form for teams will be available on the official website for the Regional: http://www.ilfirst.org/frc/events/central-illinois-regional/. Large coolers of water and cups will be provided within the Dome area at no charge. Concession Prices (current as of Nov. 2013, subject to change) Fountain Drinks Gondola $4.00 Small Jumbo Hot Dog $3.00 Medium Regular Hot Dog $2.00 Large Hamburger $3.50 Cup of Ice Cheeseburger $4.00 Coffee/Hot Chocolate Pulled Pork $4.00 Water Pretzel $2.50 Gatorade Pretzel w/Cheese $3.00 Nachos $3.00 Popcorn Small $1.00 Large $1.00 $1.50 $2.00 $2.50 $.50 $1.00 $1.50 $2.00 Venue Tips and Suggestions • Allow extra time each day to access the Dome. Encourage your team to be orderly and patient when forming lines to enter and exit through the revolving door or airlock. • Allow sufficient time for load-in. Dome personnel will be on-hand to operate the airlock at the rear. It takes anywhere from 10-30 seconds or so to repressurize the airlock each time the doors are opened. • Watch for updates to this document as details for this event get firmed up. Last updated January 8, 2014 6 Safety - Emergency Planning Think ahead, make a plan! Planning for travel safety has become a priority for FIRST Team 1736, Robot Casserole and we’d like to share our plan for the Central Illinois Regional with you so you can plan for safety, too! At the Avanti’s Dome Tornado Dome staff actively monitor the weather throughout all events and will notify FIRST staff if there is an active tornado warning. In the event of a tornado, the safest place is the inside of the Dome. It is rated for up to an EF 4 tornado. Tip for making your plan: Every team should have one or two mentors who have a complete list of every student and mentor at the event. Use this list to account for all of your team members during emergencies. Fire/Evacuation The Dome is constructed of materials that are inherently flame-resistant, so the likelihood of a fire that would cause a full evacuation is very low. In the event of fire, the most important thing you can do is remain calm and quiet so you can hear any announcements that are made. Fire extinguishers are located on every light pole around the Dome and will be used to extinguish the fire. Dome staff will determine if the building must be evacuated and it will be announced over the PA system. At that point, form orderly lines in front of the emergency exits and leave the building as quickly as is safely possible. If the emergency exits are opened, it is imperative that you exit the Dome with everyone else. The emergency doors open directly to the outside and will cause the Dome to deflate in a very short amount of time. Again, the most important thing you can do is remain calm and quiet so you can hear any announcements that are made. Do not use the emergency exits unless instructed to do so by Dome staff. Tip for making your plan: Another component of your evacuation plan should include designating a meeting place outside the Dome for your team, and equipping one or two mentors with a complete list of every student and mentor at the event so everyone can be accounted for. Make sure you have reviewed your plans thoroughly with your team! Last updated January 8, 2014 7 At the Hotel Think ahead, make a plan. At the Wisconsin Regional in 2012, the fire alarm sounded in the middle of the night in the hotel where FIRST Team 1736 was staying. A lot of lessons were learned that night when we realized that (a) we didn’t know if all of our team members were evacuated or were still in their rooms, and (b) if they evacuated, we didn’t know where they all were or if they were with a mentor. Team members were unsure of where to go and what to do. Since that time, we make proactive plans for evacuations and tornados and hope we never have to use them. We encourage each team to create their own Team Travel Emergency Procedures and invite you to use our documents as your starting place. Tips for creating your plan: Contact the hotel where you will be staying to get answers to questions. You may need to speak to someone in security or to the manager. Be persistent if at first you don’t succeed in finding the person who has the answers for you. Explain that you are making emergency plans for your team and most hotels will be most cooperative. • In the event of a fire, is there an alarm that sounds? o Where are they? hallways? stairwells? lobby areas? each individual room? o What do they sound like? o If there is no alarm in the rooms, does the hotel call rooms to tell guests to evacuate? • Do the rooms have windows that open in the event that the hallway is obstructed? • Do you have a drawing of the hotel layout that you can send us? (Not totally necessary, but very helpful if you can get one.) • Do you have a tornado warning or PA that announces an impending tornado? If not, how are guests notified of a tornado? • Where is the safest place to gather in the event of a tornado? o If in a lower hallway, ask for the room number sequence in that hallway so you can direct your students where to gather in that hallway, if possible. Using an online map resource, you can obtain an aerial view of the hotel where you are staying and map out a meeting place in the event of an evacuation. We drew arrows all over ours so students would know where the exits are and which way to go to get to the meeting place. Designate one or more mentors to keep a list of student and mentor names and associated room numbers. Establish a plan to determine whether students are still in their rooms or have evacuated. We use hang tags that say “evacuated” on the front and list the students on the back. A very sticky Post-It note would work, too. Be sure to review your plan thoroughly with the team members so everyone know what to do! Last updated January 8, 2014 For an example our 2013 plan for the Purdue Boilermaker is posted at www.robotcasserole.org under the Safety tab. Feel free to use it as a starter for your own plan! 8 Medical Emergencies Pekin Area Medical Care Pekin Hospital 600 South 13th Street, Pekin, IL 309-347-1151 Directions from Avanti’s Dome: Click for Google Maps Turn right out of the parking lot onto Griffin Avenue.
