This revolutionary model of Beit Midrash is for top madrichim to tackle the ideology of Bnei Akiva through learning authentic Jewish sources, as well as discussing the key issues affecting the tnua and developing other leadership skills which are at the core of all we do at Bnei Akiva. This will equip participants with the skills to become active bogrim and future leaders of the movement. Leadership Develop values and skills to be great madrichim. Learn to present our ideology in fun, relevant ways! Hadracha A great opportunity to run sessions on various Bnei Akiva summer machanot! Bnei Akiva has joined forces with Camp Simcha to present Keshet, a very special camp for very special children. Camp Simcha exists in order to improve the quality of life for Jewish children in the UK with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Many of these children, and their parents, face a long summer especially as they are unable to go to regular camps due to complex medical needs. For this reason, we are excited to offer a non-residential machane during the summer designed especially for children aged 5 and up. The programme will include a range of activities together with some incredible outings, staffed by trained madrichim. For any queries about the programme, please call Daniel Gillis on 020 8457 1406 or email daniel@campsimcha.org.uk. in partnership with Machane Cadur Regel A WEEK OF FUN FOR FOOTY FANS YEARS 3-5 We are delighted to be teaming up with the amazing Super SoccerStars for Machane Cadur Regel! The Kaytana project was created in 2003 to give Bnei Akiva members an opportunity to make a real difference in Israel, where it needs us most. The two-week programme is based at the Emunah Sarah Herzog Children’s Centre in Afula, Northern Israel. This is a residential home for over 90 children who are unable to live with their families with a further 100 children who attend a daily programme. In the summer, our madrichim undergo training to provide a lifechanging summer for the children, for whom Emunah provides an invaluable service. Through this summer of volunteering and fun, young British teenagers are given the opportunity to forge a lasting bond with children in Israel, thus shaping their Jewish and Zionist identity and making a tangible difference in Israeli society. In order for us to continue the running of these valuable programmes, it is vital that we find additional external funding. Please help Bnei Akiva make this incredible project happen by adding a donation to your machane application. 9 Your questions answered What is the application process? Applying is easy! Simply send in the application and medical form (enclosed, or available to download at www.bauk.org/machane), together with full payment. If your child isn’t yet a member for this year, don’t forget to include the Mas Chaver application form too. Payment can be made by cheque, debit card or credit card (credit card payments will incur a 2.3% fee). Charity vouchers cannot be accepted as payment for any machane – although they can for donations to our grant fund. Cheques should be made payable to Bnei Akiva. The application deadline is 29 th May 2015. Do I need to take out insurance? Yes. You can take part in our group insurance scheme for just £12 (for UK camps) or £19 (for Bet Chalutzi), or you can make your own arrangements. Insurance covers cancellation fees and loss of personal belongings. If you are making your own arrangements, ensure your policy covers your children when they are in loco parentis. The deadline for being included in our group insurance scheme is 29 th May 2015. Our insurance and refund policies are available at www. bauk.org/machane. What security measures are taken? The welfare and safety of our participants is our top priority. We liaise with the local police and receive security advice from the Community Security Trust to ensure that our machanot are safe and secure. Risk assessments are carried out before arrival at the campsites. Whether in buildings or in fields, our selfcontained campsites are totally secure and there is round the clock supervision and patrol. 10 What are the travel arrangements? We’ll send you the travel details around 3 weeks before machane. It will include the addresses of the machane sites and details of collection points. For Bet Chalutzi: If you’re travelling from the North, we will provide transport to London on the day prior to departure and we will arrange overnight hospitality with Londonbased families. On the return leg, we will also provide transport to the North. Bet Chalutzi will be travelling to their sites Via Eurostar. Drop off and collection points will be at St Pancras International. Is there a cancellation policy? Yes. Bnei Akiva deducts an administration fee of £75 from ALL cancellations. Cancellation after the application deadline will be refunded as follows: • • • • • Four weeks or more prior to machane: 100% Three weeks or more prior to machane: 75% Two weeks or more prior to machane: 50% 10 days or more prior to machane: 25% Less than 10 days prior to machane: no refund THERE IS NO REFUND FOR MAS CHAVER How can I contact you during machane? What if I can’t afford the cost of machane? Does my child need to bring pocket money? I’m not from the UK, but heard about your amazing machanot. Can my child join in? While we’re at machane there will be a recorded message on our switchboard (020 82091319) to direct you to the relevant numbers to call. The information pack that we’ll send out before machane will include emergency contact details. We recommend that around £20 should be brought for the Tuck Shop (for Bet Chalutzi bring £20 and €20). At the start of machane, the money will be put into the ‘camp bank’ to keep it safe. We are not responsible for any money not given in on arrival. Leftover money will be returned on the last day of machane, rounded to the nearest 50p. Unless otherwise requested prior to machane, any leftover money less than £5 will be donated to charity. We believe that no child should miss out on a Bnei Akiva educational experience due to financial reasons. Please speak in confidence to Sharon on 020 8209 1319 ext 3 or e-mail her at sharon@bauk.org for details of bursaries. The deadline for grant applications is 29 May 2015. We’d be delighted to have your child at machane! There are some terms and conditions for foreign applicants, such as having a UK-based guardian, and a reasonable level of spoken English. Please speak to Sharon on 020 8209 1319 ext 3 or e-mail her at sharon@bauk.org for details. Can my child bring a mobile phone to machane? Yes, however in order not to disrupt the running of machane, we have developed the following policy: • Aleph, Aleph Chalutzi and Bet Base (Years 6 - 8): Phones must be handed in at the start of Machane and will be given out before Shabbat and on two other occasions. • Bet Chalutzi and Gimmel (Years 9 – 10): Phones must be kept in dorms during all activities, tefillah and mealtimes, and used only during allocated free time. Please encourage your child to respect our policy so that machane can run without disruption. Please note that the mobile phone policy refers to any communication device. 11 What to bring your clothes for When you packe sure you include: machane, mak Warm jumpers arf and hat Gloves, sc or mac Waterproof coat The ABC of BA It sometimes seems like BA members are speaking a completely different language… that’s because they are! It is the emphasis on these ideals that has inspired so many of the movement’s alumni to go on to be communal and political leaders in Israel and throughout the world. Friends of Bnei Akiva works closely with the leadership of Bnei Akiva, in a spirit of friendship and co-operation, fundraising for capital projects, as well as supporting Bnei Akiva with funds for its educational work. You may well be able to afford the cost for your child to enjoy an educational experience with Bnei Akiva, but there are, unfortunately, many children whose families cannot afford the full cost of machane. Our financial resources are limited and we rely on generous donations from our supporters to enable us to give financial assistance to those children in genuine need. If you are able to help, please send a cheque or charity voucher, payable to Friends of Bnei Akiva (Bachad), clearly marking that it is for the grant fund. We are a registered charity (no. 1109706).
