Printed by authority of the State of Illinois, 0709-14, 04/14, 100 APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS NSTI is open to current freshmen and sophomore high school students. 2014 National Summer Transportation Institute The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) CHANCE Program, will host a five-week summer institute in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), UIC College of Engineering, Project SYNCERE, and the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale ACE Camp. In an effort to introduce high school students to the transportation industry, and expose them to 21st century careers, this program promotes academic excellence and prepares future leaders for their rightful place in society. Applicants must: • Have an interest in learning more about the transportation industry • Have a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale • Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or activity leader • Submit a copy of current transcript • Be able to work independently and in groups • Complete a personal interest statement Students must submit a complete application, including all supplemental materials, by Friday, May 2, 2014. The purpose of the National Transportation Institute (NSTI) is to promote awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) educational and career opportunities among disadvantaged and at-risk middle and high school students around the country. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is the funding and governing agency for the NSTI. ABOUT CHANCE… The University of Illinois - CHANCE Program was formed in 2004 to assist the campus with recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of underrepresented students. The CHANCE Program (TCP) is committed to providing academic, personal, and professional assistance to students with demonstrated academic and personal needs.
