Standard on selection, care, and maintenance of protective ensembles for structural fire fighting and proximity fire fighting. Requires Fire Departments to maintain records on: • Whom gear is issued to • Manufacturer details • Inspections, cleanings, and repairs to the gear • When gear is retired and its disposal method Aimed at reducing safety risks related to poorly maintained, contaminated, or damaged PPE The full standard can be obtained for free at www.NFPA.org Who completes When it should be done Routine Inspection Anyone who has a turnout coat and pant. After every use. Advanced Inspection An Independent Service Provider (ISP) or an organization’s trained personnel who have successfully completed the Fire-Dex course and quiz. Whenever an ensemble element fails any part of the Routine Inspection or every 12 months. Complete Liner Inspection An ISP or an organization’s trained personnel who have successfully completed the Fire-Dex course and quiz. After 3 years in service and annually thereafter or whenever an Advanced Inspection indicates it’s necessary. Routine Cleaning Anyone who has a turnout coat and pant. When an inspection indicates cleaning is necessary. Advanced Cleaning & Decontamination An ISP or an organization’s trained personnel who have successfully completed the Fire-Dex course and quiz. Any time an ensemble element is soiled or at the time of an advanced inspection if it has not been through an Advanced Cleaning in the prior 12 months. Repair The original manufacturer or a verified ISP. Any time an inspection indicates a repair is necessary. The Purpose of Gear Tracker Gear Tracker was developed to help departments keep track of NFPA 1851 procedures performed on their gear (cleaning, inspection, & repair). The Administrator can be changed at any time later on. Department Info After selecting your department from the drop-down list on the main page and filling in your department information, you can begin adding department personnel, and from there assign items of PPE to the department member. Importing Department Info If you already have your department personnel and/or department’s gear saved on your computer, you can go to “Data Import” on your main Dashboard page. From there you can download the Excel template, input your department and gear information, then upload it to Gear Tracker. Unique Features Import Department Info If you already have information saved on your computer, download the template, paste in your data, then quickly upload it to Gear Tracker. Assigned PPE Report Sort, filter, and search all info on your department’s PPE.
