Your First Scarf designed by Aimee Hirst and worn by Dandelion 1 © Your First Scarf Aimee Hirst This is a project for new to knitting beginners, so follow our easy instructions to make your first scarf. SIZE One size, approximately 20 x 160cm/8 x 63in. This is long enough to wrap around the neck once. MATERIALS One 100g ball of Debbie Bliss Roma in each of Taupe 05 (A), Black 02 (B) and Blaze 06 (C). Pair of 10mm (US 15) knitting needles. TENSION 10 sts and 17 rows to 10cm/4in square over garter stitch using 10mm (US 15) needles. ABBREVIATIONS cm = centimetres. k = knit. st(s) = stitch(es). TO MAKE With 10mm (US 15) needles and A, cast on 22 sts. Garter st row K to end. This row forms garter st and is repeated throughout. Work in garter st to the end of the ball, ending with a complete row. Change to B and work to the end of the ball, ending with a complete row. Change to C and work to the end of the ball, leaving enough yarn to work the cast off row. Cast off. Weave in yarn ends to neaten. TECHNIQUES USED FOR THIS PROJECT Reading a knitting pattern. Making the slip loop and casting on stitches. Working knit stitches. Changing colour. Casting off stitches. Weaving in yarn ends.
