Pelican News Pelican News: 6 May 2016 Our ‘Very Big Important Meeting’ took place on Wednesday and our charity was decided; we will be supporting Save the Children by getting involved with Den Day on Friday 17 June. The decision was fairly unanimous with Race for Life being the second most popular choice. Nearer the time we will be talking with the children about what sort of dens they would like to create which may require some donations / loans of old sheets / blankets / large cardboard boxes etc. in order to realise their ambitions. We will set a charge for the children to take part and will also invite you in at the end of the day to come and see the creations. It should be a really fun day and all for a very worthy cause. Our other exciting news was the ‘big reveal’ of this year’s summer show, ‘Pirates Versus Mermaids’! As you can imagine from the title alone, this has appealed to many! We begin learning the songs next week so advanced apologies that you are likely to hear these songs on a loop from now until the end of term! Sun Hats There are still quite a few children who do not have a named sun hat in school. Please could all children have one from next week. Rash Vests We advise the children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 to bring a rash vest in for swimming sessions. The pool area is quite a sun-trap and although we apply sun cream, a rash vest is a much safer option to protect them from the rays. Sainsbury’s Vouchers The last of the vouchers have now been issued so please bring any you find to Mrs Passmore’s class ready for our grand totalling exercise at half term. Thank you. Book Fair Our Book Fair takes place next Tuesday in the main school library. You are very welcome to take your children to visit either before school or after school up to 5.00pm. Please note we are not planning to visit the Book Fair with the children during the course of the day. However if your child goes home on the bus or will be at TT Club beyond 5.00pm we are happy to take him/her to the Book Fair if you wish for them to buy a book. Revised Dietary information Please see the following link which will take you to a revised version of the ‘Eatwell Guide’ which some of you may find an interesting read. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-eatwell-guide Lost Property Nicolas Du Toit’s school jumper (named) has been misplaced. If it has accidentally made its way to your house, please could you return it to Mrs Kittow. Thank you. Nursery 2 We have been building lots of 'houses' this week after exploring the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. If you have any large boxes that you would like recycled we would love for the children to take part in a 'Big Build' using lots of cardboard boxes. Year 1 Mrs Yeabsley would like all of the children to bring in a large (clean and empty) tetra pack container (juice carton) for a forthcoming project. Thank you. They worked in small groups to create their very own Eiffel Towers using spaghetti and marshmallows! Nursery 2 The children have enjoyed taking it in turns to use our new interactive talking pen. The pen talks in a variety of languages including Mandarin and French. The children press the pen on the words in the book and then choose a language, together they take it in turns to repeat the words that they hear. Thank You Mystery Reader from Reception!
