Letter from Karen Pearl
We have been in our temporary space in Brooklyn for just over a month, and it is
starting to feel like home. Without missing one client delivery, we were up and
running after one long weekend of packing and unpacking. The first weekend in
Brooklyn, we had lots of volunteers join us to kit client deliveries, and shortly
afterward to help in the kitchen, on deliveries and in our offices. It was a truly
remarkable effort, and I cannot thank our volunteers enough. Your dedication to our
clients and our services has made it possible for us to settle into this new space while
continuing all that we do uninterrupted. I greatly appreciate the feedback we have
gotten from volunteers throughout this process, and will keep you posted on our
progress through the Expansion Campaign updates I’ve been sending every few
weeks.

you attended these events in addition to your regular volunteer shift.
Our momentum continues at a fast pace into November as we prepare for the Race to
Deliver and Thanksgiving Day. If you are not already participating with a Race team,
we invite you to join the Love Team. I know we will be seeing many of you on
Thanksgiving Day, and we are grateful for your service.
It is a great feeling to walk through our Brooklyn site everyday and see the kitchen,
kitting/delivery area, volunteer lounge and our offices filled with so many new and
familiar faces. We are thankful that so many of you have joined us in Brooklyn. As
you know, we cannot accomplish all that we do without your extraordinary efforts.
I wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving, full of friendship, good health and
gratitude.
Without charge. Without fail. Without pretense.
And, most importantly, with love.

VOLUNTEER WITH
GOD’S LOVE WE DELIVER
ON THANKSGIVING!
God’s Love We Deliver prepares and delivers nutritious, individually-tailored
meals to New Yorkers living with life-altering illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, cancer,
multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s. Thanksgiving is a very special holiday at God’s
Love, with clients receiving a traditional holiday feast with all the trimmings, a
Thanksgiving gift basket and extra guest meals so no one has to eat alone.
This year on November 28th, we are on track to prepare and deliver meals to over
3,500 people and are very much in need of volunteers on Thanksgiving morning
with their own vehicle that can make meal deliveries to our clients’ homes. You’ll
be done by noon - right in time for your feast and football! It’s a great way to
spend the holiday, get your family/children involved and start a new tradition!
For more information, please visit us at glwd.org/holiday, email us at
volunteer@glwd.org or call us at 212.294.8158.
7th Annual Golden Heart Awards
On Wednesday, October 16th, more than 700 guests attended our Seventh Annual Golden Heart
Awards, making it our largest and most successful event in our 28-year history! Former
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, was presented with the first-ever Michael Kors
Award for Outstanding Community Service by fashion designer and God’s Love board member
Michael Kors and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour. Renowned fashion model IMAN
presented the Golden Heart Award for Lifetime Achievement to Aerin Lauder, who is the
creative director at Estee Lauder Companies and a longtime philanthropist. Our President &
CEO, Karen Pearl presented Jeff Gates and Mike Moran, both long-time volunteers and donors,
with the Golden Heart Award for Outstanding Volunteerism. A big thank you to all of the
volunteers who came out the help at the event! This would not have been possible without all of
you!
Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
October 18th-20th, 2013
Volunteers from God’s Love helped prepare thousands of lunches for Avon Walk
participants and staff to show our appreciation for all the support that the Avon Foundation
has provided to us. A cheering station was set up early Saturday morning at the Soldiers and
Sailors Monument on Riverside Drive where volunteers handed out Chuck’s famous
brownies and encouraged walkers to sign a God’s Love banner that was used at the closing
ceremonies. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with the lunches and cheering
station! On Sunday, God's Love received $150,000 to provide nutritious meals to breast
cancer patients and their families. God’s Love President & CEO President Karen Pearl
accepted the award.
God’s Love has the most dedicated volunteers in the world, with an amazing total of over 132,000
volunteer hours each year. We would like to recognize those of you that hit very significant
milestones in the last month.
Thank you for all your incredible service.
