Install Roof Module 2.1 Safety Notes The AutoFarm system must be powered OFF when installing or removing the roof module. The supplied locking pin or a padlock must be in place whenever the vehicle is in operation. The roof module must be removed when transporting the vehicle at speeds above 30 mph. Make sure that you are in a stable position on the tractor platform when removing the roof module, so that you do not fall or drop the roof module. 2.2 Install the Base Plate Remove the cab roof bolts. 3 Align the base plate to mounting holes and fasten the base plate to the roof. The lettered holes and the dummy cable connector must be on the left side of the tractor. left side of tractor 2.3 Mount the Roof Module Slide the roof module into locked position. The cable connection must be on the left side of the tractor, facing the rear. 4 Make sure that the spring lock is in place. locked position Insert and close the locking pin through the holes in the roof array and the base plate. Note that a padlock can replace the locking pin. locking pin Attach the radio modem antenna. Note: The antenna should be attached “hand tight.” Do not use any tools to tighten the antenna. Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the o-ring seal on the antenna before mounting on the roof module. 5 3. Turn the tractor all the way right and left to make sure the linkage arms can move without interference. Note: This step is done after final assembly during the calibration and tuning steps. 8 4. Install the User Terminal 4.1 Assemble and Mount the User Terminal Bracket Remove plastic hole covers from the cab post. mounting bracket position Mount the bracket assembly 9 4.2 Mount and Adjust the User Terminal Attach the mounting plate on the adjustable arm to the user terminal using four screws. mounting plate Remove the travel stop on the bracket assembly. 10 Slide the user terminal arm on to the bracket. Replace the travel stop. 11 Tighten the arm on to the bracket using an Allen key wrench supplied in the installation kit. Remove adjustment bolt caps. 12 Adjust user terminal arm tightness so the arms can be easily turned during normal tractor operation. Replace adjustment bolt caps and adjust user terminal viewing angle. Turn the lever to loosen before adjusting the angle. 13 Replace the plastic cover before final assembly. The complete User Terminal installation is shown in the figure below. 14 5. Install the SA Module 5.1 Mount the SA Module Bracket Mount the SA module bracket in a protected position on the tractor. SA module bracket 5.2 Mount the SA Module to the Bracket Mount the SA Module to the bracket. SA module 15 AutoFarm recommends mounting the SA module in the positions shown below. Do NOT mount the SA module in the positions shown in the figure below. 16 6. Assemble and Mount the Hydraulic Valve 6.1 Install the Hydraulic Valve The AutoFarm steering valve is mounted under the right side of the tractor cab in the position shown below using the existing tractor bolts. Remove the cab mount bolts and use them to mount the valve bracket. cab bolts hydraulic valve Mount the hydraulic valve on to the bracket using the three long bolts supplied. hydraulic valve hydraulic valve bracket 17 7. Install the Hydraulic Hoses 7.1 Assemble the Hydraulic Hoses Assemble hoses as shown (Hose length is not shown to scale below.) pressure port on power beyond pressure line return port on power beyond lines return line load sense load sense port on power beyond adapters to connect the tractor steering hoses to AutoFarm valve “steer out” right line to right steer cylinder “steer out” left line to left steer cylinder 1/4 NPT elbow for pressure transducer teflon tape for NPT threads 7.2 Route the Hydraulic Hoses Summary: Steer IN and OUT hoses are routed from the hydraulic valve, under the cab, to the vehicle’s steering lines. Note: Secure the hoses with cable ties and be sure they are clear of moving parts and heat sources. 18 7.3 AutoFarm Steering Valve The valve is shown in the figure below. steer out right steer out left steer in right steer in left return load sense pressure 7.4 AutoSteer High Flow Valve Port Connections Hydraulic Hose Valve Port Label Steer In (Right) SR Steer In (Left) SL Steer Out (Right) R Steer Out (Left) L Pressure P Return T Load Sense LS Pressure Transducer Trans 19 7.5 Connect the Hydraulic Hoses to Power Beyond Ports The pressure, return and load sense hoses from the AutoFarm valve must be connected to the three power beyond ports located at the back of the tractor as shown below. The load sense port is usually a metric thread on the side of the triangular adapter plate on either the right or left side of tractor as shown below. Some tractors have Load Sense adapter plates on both sides. If both load sense adapter plates are installed on the tractor and already being used, you will have to install a shuttle valve to connect the AutoFarm load sense hose to one of the load sense ports already being used. Pressure and return ports for power beyond. Use metric thread hose adapters. The load sense port is usually located on this plate or on similar plate on the other side of the tractor 20 7.6 Identify Power Beyond Ports Tractors equipped with a power beyond kit typically have the two quick couplers shown below. To install the AutoFarm system on these tractors you can either replace the female quick couplers on tractor by the two metric adapters provided in your hose kit or you can purchase two male quick couplers from a John Deere dealer and install them on the ends of the AutoFarm pressure and return hoses. The AutoFarm load sense hose can either be connected directly to the adapter plate on the valve block as shown on right or you can install a male quick coupler on hose end if the tractor is already equipped with female quick coupler for load sense. The load sense adapter plate can be installed on either the right side or the left side of the tractor’s valve stack. pressure and return hoses from AutoFarm valve load sense adapter plate for power beyond (this is a John Deere part) Optional male quick couplers on hose ends for tactors having female quick couplers already installed metric thread elbow adapter for load sense hose going to AutoFarm valve 21 7.7 Power Beyond JD-6820 Europe Some tractors have different port locations for the power beyond. The picture below is from a JD-6820 in Europe. Your hose kit includes both M12 and M14 threaded elbows for the load sense because the thread size can be different according to the tractor model and Power Beyond port location. power beyond block pressure and return ports load sense port 22 7.8 Attach the Pressure Transducer Attach the 90 degree fitting to the port marked “trans” on the AutoSteer valve.
