LEAD. LEARN.
LIGHT THE WAY!
NAESP’s Best Practices for
Better Schools™ Conference
Designed to help elementary and middle-level school leaders
deepen their knowledge on issues in Pre-K-8 education through a
combination of inspiring keynote presentations, focused trainings,
expert-led presentations, innovative technology product demos,
and exciting networking opportunities.
Inspiration, Exploration,
and Best Practices from the
largest gathering of today’s
top experts in elementary
& middle-level education.
The Conference for
principals who love
to learn.
This summer, spend three days with thousands
of forward-thinking Pre-K-8 educators who want
to learn and share game-changing ideas from
colleagues and experts that you can implement
right away.
•
In elementary and middle schools across the
country, principals are using innovative strategies
to improve curriculum and instruction, address
management challenges, stretch resources, engage
parents and communities, utilize new technologies
effectively, and create optimal learning environments
that prepare all students for success beyond their
Pre-K-8 years.
By sharing their stories, addressing their challenges,
and celebrating successes along the way, we hope
that principals will learn from their experiences and
be inspired to “Lead. Learn. Light the Way.”
You will be energized by new ideas, successful practices, and camaraderie you won’t find anywhere else.

LEADERSHIP SIMULATIONS
HARNESS POWER OF EXPERIENCE
FOR ENGAGING PD FOR
EXPERIENCED AND ASPIRING
SCHOOL LEADERS
In Leadership, skills are essential, but
experience is often missing. Experience
implies using good judgment in the most
complex situations. We know experience
is the Best Teacher, but we would frown
upon a surgeon who practices on her
patients. Simulations enable leaders to
gain experience without putting students
in danger. Presenter: Ken Spero, CEO, Ed
Leadership SIMS, Bala Cynwyd, PA
KNOW WHEN TO GET OUT OF
THE WAY: DEVELOPING TEACHER
LEADERSHIP
This in-the-trenches presentation for
principals offers a multitude of strategies
and insights for getting started in the role
of principal and leading successfully. This
presentation offers advice for withstanding
the scrutiny, making confident decisions,
connecting with staff, students, and parents,
and enjoying the greatest job in the worldleading a school. Presenter: Andrew Davis,
Principal, Julia Green Elementary School,
Nashville, TN
To maximize instructional improvement,
principals need to develop a leadership mindset
among teachers. Teachers adopt this powerful
mindset when principals build trust, provide
support, give back meaningful work, and then
step aside so teachers can lead. Participants will
develop action plans for engaging teachers in
leading school improvement work.
Presenter: Sarah Fiarman, Harvard Graduate
School of Education, Sommerville, MA
