Special Parade Edition!
T
he 44th Annual 4th of July Parade sponsored by the
Palisades Citizens Association stepped off into history at
noon on Independence Day, 2010, and proceeded without a hitch
past a huge and enthusiastic crowd of observers estimated in the
thousands. The day was as fine weatherwise as could be hoped
for: hot, but not too muggy and the heat was accompanied by a
cooling flow of air.
All the Parade stalwarts were on hand! The Bagpipers were
superb! The United Horsemen were awesome! The Different
Drummers were dynamite, and provided great marching music
for the masses! The Millwood Mob was magnificent! This being
election year, the local political establishment was out in force,
from the Mayor down, as were their minions! Never has so much
candy been thrown, stickers stuck, favors handed out and signage
proliferated!
As always, local participation was highly inventive and nothing if not high-energy! Kids of all ages checked their dignity
at the Safeway as they paraded, cavorted, strutted and gyrated
their way towards Cushing Place. At Palisades Park, energy was
equally high under and around the big top, groovving to the wonderful band “Tenacious” as they belted out hit after hit, Ms. Hope
Leigh, a wonderful young voice, did a fine job with the National
Anthem, and PCA President Bill Slover handed out an endless
series of well-deserved awards. As always, the real heroes were
the Lions, who served several thousand drinks at the picnic, and
the Grand Lodge Masons who grilled and served over 4,000 hotdogs, laboring over the red-hot grills and under the white-hot sun.
As always, the Parade was a miracle of come-together, selfless hard work by hundreds of volunteers, Parade Marshalls,
T-Shirt sellers, and the support of many of our wonderful local
businesses, without which it simply could not have happened.
See complete listings on the following pages!
A huge salute to the PCA, the Parade leadership, and all who
contributed in so many different ways.
THANK YOU!
