History of VOLA
VOLA manufacturer VOLA A/S is a well-established Danish company founded in 1873, owned and run by the Overgaard
family.
The first VOLA taps were designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen back in 1968. Shortly after Arne Jacobsen won a
competition in 1961 for his design of the National Bank of Denmark he was contacted by the owner of VOLA A/S, Verner
Overgaard who introduced his proposal for a new type of wall-mounted mixer tap. He imagined a design where all the
mechanical parts of the mixer are hidden leaving only the handles and spout visible to the user. At the time this was a
completely new concept, but Jacobsen realized that this idea combined with his functionalistic approach to design could be
developed. With that basic principle in mind, the simple and concise VOLA design we know today was conceived.
Not long after production began VOLA was awarded the ID-prize for its excellent design. International recognition soon
followed with VOLA being selected for exhibition in centres of architecture and design such as Museum of Modern Art New
York, Kunstgewerbemuseum Cologne, Cincinnati Art Museum, Neue Sammlung Munich, to mention just a few.

General information
Composition
The VOLA range is built on a modular system comprising valves, handles, outlets, cover plates and accessories. These components
can be combined in an infinite number of ways to meet every requirement whether it be for kitchen, bathroom or utility area. All build-in
mixers are available with fixed or remote outlets making it possible to position handles and spouts independently. A choice of short,
medium or long handles are available on most models. Spouts for kitchen, washbasin, bath or bidet are offered in various sizes as
standard. Special sizes are available on request. Rectangular cover plates with, 2, 3, 4 or 5 holes are also standard throughout the
range allowing handles, outlets and accessories to be grouped together giving the appearance of a single unit. Alternatively, individual
flanges can be used for each component.
Please note: Hand showers in the finishes polished chrome (16) and brushed chrome (20) are delivered with metal hoses. If plastic
hose is required, please inform when ordering. Handshowers in stainless steel (40) are always with metal (stainless steel) hoses.
Material
Only by choosing the very best materials is VOLA able to produce items of such high quality. Mixers, taps and accessories are made
from solid brass, gun metal and solid stainless steel. All valve housings are made using dezincification resistant brass.
Each stage of the production process from inspection of the raw material through to the finished product is subject to VOLA A/S’
intense quality control system based on the ISO 9001 quality system.
Valve units
Conscious water consumption is an absolute necessity in our modern world, but comfort and usability in the kitchen or bath room is
just as important. With VOLA you can have both.
The many different valve options offered by VOLA enables the specifier to select the unit most suitable for the purpose.
The ideal flow required for shower and sink is 10 litres per minute. The ideal flow for a basin is 5-6 litres per minute. All basin taps
and mixers have a flow regulator securing a flow of 5-6 litres per minute irrespective of pressure. A minimum of 20 litres per minute is
needed for bath filling. For whirlpools or multi head showers high flow valves should be used.
One-handle mixers for wash basin, bidet, shower and kitchen sink all use a 28 mm ceramic cartridge capable of producing a
maximum flow of 12 litres per minute at a pressure of 300 kPa. A 35 mm cartridge is also available for bath filling supplying a maximum
flow of 24 litres per minute at a pressure of 300 kPa.
Two-handle mixers can be used for both basin and bath filling. Also incorporating ceramic discs, the flow rates of these units range
from 6 to 75 litres per minute depending on the type of outlet used.
¾" mixers allow very high water flow rates. They can produce up to 40-75 litres per minute.
The construction of all VOLA mixer castings ensures noiseless performance. Noise level is class 1 in respect of the new Euronorm.
Maintenance
It is not necessary to clean the colour and chrome surfaces with a detergent. Wiping with a damp cloth daily is all that is required. The
polished brass surface requires cleaning with a brass cleaner. Spout filters/aerators can be soaked in vingar for a few hours when
required. Service-kits including o-rings, aerators and other wearable parts for all VOLA units are available from your local distributor.
