Parents, Administration, and PTA have been planning another amazing week to celebrate our wonderful teachers and staff. This year’s theme is: Crusin Into Summer! Detailed information will be sent home outlining the festivities for the entire week. Thank you to everyone who makes this week possible and a special thanks to our Room Parents, and to our Room Parent Coordinators, Thursa Sotak and Sherry Derrevere. The Nominating Committee will read the slate of officers and elections will be held. Principal & PTA Coffee Talk will be held the following day on May 14th at 9:30 am in the Media Center. Join us for coffee and bagels and learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities and committee member/chair positions for the 20152016 school year. Save the date! This year has flown by and I can’t recommended for all students entering believe I am sending out the May newsletter 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Choose at least already. It has been an incredible year here at 2 books to read during the summer. Binks Forest and we have all enjoyed the pleasure of working with our awesome students. As we draw to the close of the 2014- 2015-16 Sunshine State Young Readers Award Finalists 2015 school year, I want to thank our school community, our School Advisory Council and Grades 3-5 our PTA board members for all of their hard Athlete vs. Mathlete W.C. These facts are truly amazing and we thank you for supporting this great program. The money received from this program is used for much needed school supplies. Keep up the great work and clip and collect all summer long! Box Tops for Education Thursa Sotak and Kris Rodgers The Box Tops team will have one final collection contest for this year. The class to bring in the most Box Tops will earn a sweet treat to be delivered to their classroom the last week of May. Box Tops submitted in April will count toward the contest and we will collect them until May 22. Please be sure and send all Shana Feuer VP Ways & Means This has been a great year for fundraising due to the amazing support of our families, faculty, staff, and the Wellington Community. We have met our goals and will continue to be able to provide a substantial amount of educational tools, technology, and assistance to our teachers and students. And, we are not done yet. There is still one more Popcorn Friday on May 22 nd. I’ve already started arranging our spirit nights for the next school year, which will include Chick-Fil-A, of course, and for something new we are going to try PDQ. Science News The Science Department of Palm Beach County School District has teamed up with R.I.S.E. Organizations (Resources in Science Education) to offer your child an adventure in learning and exploration they will remember for a life-time! This unique experience will take them beyond the four walls of their classroom and into the great outdoors with their family and friends. This exciting initiative offers your child the opportunity to become an official Field Research Ranger of the Palm Beach County School District. May 15th, the winning project boards from our school will be on display at the fair grounds. All boards will be returned to school by Friday for the students to take home. Good Luck to all!! 1. Visit each participating RISE organization 2. Complete the on-site Field Research Ranger activity 3. Bring the completed passport booklet to the district office to receive their certification and the official Field Research Ranger patch. This learning adventure is FREE for participating students, however, some participating state parks may require a minimal entrance fee that cannot be waived according to policies set forth by the state. *The passport booklet is available following this link: http://www.palmbeachschools.org/ec/Science /index.asp and can also be picked up at participating organizations and schools throughout the district. Wellington, FL 33414 Around School Mrs. Michella Levy– Principal Tanya Siskind– PTA President Student Council Mrs. Gifford We will be sponsoring a collection for HEART (Homeless Education Assistance Resource Team) in May as our last service project of the school year. Each classroom will have a box for donations. A flyer will be sent out with the specific item needed. HEART is made up of social service professionals who work to address problems faced by homeless children and youth attending school in Palm Beach County. There are currently approximately 1,600 homeless students identified in our school district. Wellington, FL 33414 Around School Counselor’s Corner Dr. Randi Schietz (561)904-9811 randi.schietz@palmbeachschools.org Holocaust Education – The fifth graders have been learning about the Holocaust in Guidance. They are also have been reading novels about the Holocaust in their Language Arts Class and 5th grade Patrols will be visiting the “Daniel’s Story” exhibit at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. We are honored to welcome our guest speaker and Holocaust Survivor, Zelda Fuksman who will be speaking to the 5th graders on May 20th. This is always a very memorable and meaningful experience that few students in Palm Beach County are able to experience the way our students do at Binks Forest and we are very fortunate. I WISH ALL OF THE FIFTH GR A D ER S A SUCCESSFUL AND SMOOTH TRANSITION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL! YOU WILL BE MISSED AT BINKS FOREST. Summer Resources – The Wellington Guidance Advisory Co un ci l w h i ch i n cl u de s guidance counselors from Wellington Schools has put together a 1-page document listing some of the local family, mental health and psychiatric services available in our local area. Some of the providers on the list take insurance and some do not but if you are looking for some general names for family counselors or child psychiatrists you can email me and I will be happy to forward that list to you. They can help direct you to appropriate services for Domestic Violence issues, substance abuse, crisis intervention or financial and legal aid issues. Hospice of Palm Beach (Horizons Bereavement Center) – GRIEF COUNSELING – 561-227-5175 Boys Town National Hotline –FREE hotline 24/7 talk to experts about parenting issues and they can also connect you with local resources. Their websites are also a great FREE resource or parenting information available to all parents; http://parenting.org and http://www.yourlifeyourvoice.org Carson Scholar- Noah Norwitch Noah Norwitch received the the prestigious Carson Scholarship award of $1,000 for demonstrating excellence in academics and good citizenship. Noah has raised over $3,000 to help children in Wellington afford to participate in sports. Noah received his award at a banquet in Ft. Meyers by Dr. and Mrs. Ben Carson.
