Spreading the Gift of Sight Katie Bouchard, Miss Belle of Louisville, has invited our school to help collect used eyeglasses for the Lions Club. The Lions Club Eye Foundation refurbishes the eyeglasses and then distributes them throughout the world. The Lions Club is the largest service organization in the world. Donations of used eyeglasses will be accepted through May. The Eye Foundation can accept used eyeglasses in almost any condition, style, prescription, or size. Nonprescription “cheaters” are also accepted. So, clean out those drawers and bring in any used eyeglasses to help the Lions Club! Dear WES Parents and Students, “The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.” –Sydney J. Harris This is a powerful statement made by a famous author and writer. It is so true that we need a break the most when we are at our busiest and most stressed. It is so hard to make this happen, but if we take just a little time to recharge our minds, bodies, and spirits; we can gain the energy we need to continue on with our lives. And that is what Habit 7 is all about. Students—please continue earning marbles for your houses by following rules, showing leadership, and living the 7 Habits every day! We are very proud of every WES student, and we are excited to see students growing every day! Jeremy Cole Guidance Counselor The 7 Habits of Happy Kids By: Stephen R. Covey Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw This habit focuses on the idea that we need to balance our lives by renewing our bodies, brains, hearts, and souls. It is so important to take a time-out every once in a while in order to keep ourselves in check and to ensure that we can better deal with all the challenges life throws our way. So try to renew your body by exercising or giving up a bad habit, recharge your mind by reading something that interests you or playing games that make you think, fulfill your heart by laughing at something funny on TV or just laughing with a friend, and enlighten your soul by praying or reflecting on your life. Remember, if we do not take time to sharpen our saws, we would work tirelessly and endlessly with little progress being made. And students remember that Sharpen the Saw is not just an activity we do on Wednesday afternoons once a month. It’s something we need to do daily in our own lives in order to keep a balance between work and play. So parents, ask your kids what they are learning about the 7 Habits. Ask them what it means to Sharpen the Saw. Together, think of some ways that you all can sharpen your saws in your own home so that everyone finds balance in their lives. We are all in this together, and it is bound to be a wonderful adventure as we grow and develop as leaders at Whitesville Elementary LEADERS OF THE WEEK Light – Beau Nantz Murphy – Keaton Mattingly Heaton – Madison Edmonson Grant – Jersey Smith Wedding – Haylee Clark Dunaway – McKenzie Sowders Johnson – Isaac Ketelhut Elliott – Jason Kirby Doughty – Keiley Pentecost Clark – James Royal Creech – Ethan Clouse Edge – Ella Dukes Howard – Gavin Bickett Beyke – Caleb Payne LAST WEEK TO VOTE!
