Daffodil Day Gala
3rd September 2015 - Week 7 Term 3 Daffodil Day Gala Thank you to everyone who came and supported our Daffodil Gala last Friday. We raised a total of $1,377.70 for the NZ Cancer Society. The weather was kind to us last Friday for Daffodil Day and what a great day it was with lots of action and excitement. The children were really excited to plan and set up their own stalls and they were responsible for running them during the afternoon. For many they reckon it is the best day of the year. The cooking required parent support and a huge thanks goes to those parents who spent the afternoon helping out. Thanks also to Fresh Choice for the donation of sausages and to Russell at Pohara General Store for donating the lollies again for the “Guess The Lollies in the Jar”, and Dean at NBS for the use of the Bouncy Castle. Your support on this day was really appreciated. Tackle 7’s The Tackle 7’s tournament was postponed this week and a date will be set once the weather settles. The Tackle 7’s team is Caleb, Chris, Rhys W, Leo, Alex, Tane, Kegan, William, Riley O, Xavier. Congratulations Awards for Effort and Achievement in Reading Jay, Noah Holley, Kate, Yoshi, Jaxson Luke, Amber W, Ruby Daffodil Day By Jay Anderson The bell rang. It was twelve o’clock. The first customer was here. He wanted a cheese toasted sandwich, which was five tokens. Ten minutes later. We were working like mad. Finally, Natasha came with some kambucha. Arjuna got a cup and poured the kambucha into a cup and gave it to Caitlin. Then I got my tokens and got a sausage. It was good. Then we went on the field and we played rippa rugby. I had heaps of turns on the bouncy castle. After we tidied up the school, we got to have free goes. It was a great day. Next year I want to make toasted sandwiches again. What Happened at Assembly this week Room 1 read their daffodil poems, Room 2 shared pictures they had painted and stories about their trip to Wainui, Room 3 showed humorous fathers day cards, Rm4 read adventure stories and Room 5 performed a whole class play they had adapted. Time to set up my stall. I pumped up my long skinny balloons and began to twist them into dog shapes. POP!! “Oops, a balloon popped,” I said to myself. Never mind. I will pump up another one. Lots of people bought my balloons. No more balloons for sale. I set off to buy something else. “Look, a toffee apple, Yum!!” I said to my little sister, Scarlett. Next I went to Renford and made a basket out of flax. It took a very long time. Now the basket is hanging up in our truck, and Mum keeps her phone in it sometimes. I love selling things and making things and buying things at Daffodil Day. Everybody is getting ready. Smiles are spreading and our hopes are heading to those with cancer. Ding, ding, ding! The bell has rung it’s time for some fun. I taste the sweet toffee apple when I use my tongue to get it off my teeth. I smell the warm smell of sausages on the grill. I feel smooth grass running through my fingers. I see bright colours and smiling faces. I see people running and doing races. Today was great and I cannot wait until another great daffodil day. By Mya Mum and Renford helped me make a flax basket. It was one of the best days. My stall sold sunflower seeds and we sold most of them. Aongous Mum’s stall sold homemade biscuits that you could decorate yourself. I made two of them. I also went on the bouncy castle lots of times. Malika Chloe and I sold all of the daffodils Chloe’s mum brought in. I had my first toffee apple and it was delicious. The toffee stuck to my teeth and I couldn’t get it off. Isla Fumiko helped us make lemonade for our stall and we sold it all. It was sweet and really nice. The bouncy castle was one of my favourite activities. Olive
