FULLERS BREWERY and HOGARTH’S HOUSE
Thursday 14 November 2013
This meeting has been organised by George Freeman
The FULLER’s Brewery started over 350 years ago in the grounds of Bedford House on Chiswick Mall. It was
successful and expanded until, in the 19th century, Smith and Turner had to seeked a partner – Fuller. After various
family difficulties it became Fuller, Smith and Turner in 1845 and the Griffin Brewery was set up and expanded.
We will hear some of the family history and learn how the beer is made today and what influences the different
flavours. Until 1900 they got their clean water from their own well but since then, like most of us, they use
Thames Water. We will be in a working environment so please wear stout shoes as we will be walking on grills,
etc. This is a tasting tour. W4 2QA www.fullers.co.uk

TRAVEL
The nearest station is Turnham Green on the District Line.
Turn left out of the tube into Turnham Green Terrace. Walk down the road until you reach a junction and then turn
left onto Chiswick High Road. Go along Chiswick High Road until you reach a Sainsbury's Local. Take the next
right (a main junction with traffic lights) and follow the path round the corner to the right into Chiswick Lane.
Walk to the top of Chiswick Lane. You should see the brewery and the Mawson Arms from the other side of the
A4. Cross on the zebra crossing half way up Chiswick Lane to the left hand side of the road and continue
alongside the park. Go under the subway at the end of the road. DO NOT TRY TO CROSS OVER THE MAIN
ROAD AS IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. It will bring you up outside the Mawson Arms, where the tours
start.
Car parking is difficult. There are meter areas but the cost is £1 for 30 minutes.
