Free Kid’s Fishing Clinic

Registration: Pre-registration is encouraged but walk-ins will be allowed.
Free fishing instruction for children 15 years and younger





Classes begin every hour from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Fishing equipment is available, but bring your own rod and reel if possible.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Free park admission at the fishing pond for all fishing clinic participants.
Refreshments and Snacks will be offered from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Fishing Clinic Classes Offered
Rod & Reel Casting: Learn how to cast a line using barbless rubber plugs. Have fun
on the casting target range reeling in colorful plastic fish.
Knot tying: Learn how to tie several kinds of fishing line knots to make sure the fish
you hook don’t get away.
Basic Fishing Equipment: Find out what you need to get started and how to set up
your fishing gear with hook, sinker, bobber, bait and casting lures.
Fish I.D. and Fishing Regulations: Learn about fishing rules; how to measure your
fish; catch and release methods; bait rules, fishing/boating safety, and how to identify
your fish. Get your colorful DNR Wisconsin Wild Cards featuring common fish
species while supply lasts.
Fish Printing: The ancient art of “Gyotaku” (guh-yo-tah-koo) or ink fish printing
will be offered. Participants are asked to bring along a T-shirt or a bandana they
want to have printed. Paper will also be available to make colorful fish prints.
Fish Cleaning: How to scale, skin, fillet, store, freeze and cook your fish.
Go Fish!: Try your luck using your new fishing skills to catch rainbow trout or
bluegills in the park’s one acre fishing pond. Volunteers will be on hand to help out.
