What happens outside the classroom changes everything. 1 Prepare to fill your calendar. Students can’t help but be part of the energy. and when they’re not finding spontaneous fun around campus, they’re usually involved in groups, clubs, and activities. — The Quad, the Kellogg Center, and the residence halls are abuzz with people, events, activities, gatherings, performances, meetings, and study groups. Get ready. Your life is about to have a whole lot more fun, friends, and learning experiences thrown into it. 2 Living at Albion: Your life just got more. At Albion, 95% of our students live on campus. That’s because there’s something special about being surrounded by friends and things to do all day, every day. We create comfortable, safe living and learning environments that support our high academic standards and foster communities all over campus. Room to grow. In your first year, you’ll live in a traditional residence hall with lots of other new students. And you’ll share everything: rooms, study spaces, kitchen and laundry areas, bathrooms, and a common area with a lounge and a big screen. You’ll have plenty of places to study, and there’ll be lots of other things going on whenever you need a break. After your first year, you’ll have a wide range of new options. You’ll be able to choose an apartment, suite, fraternity house, or specialinterest housing (like the Environmental House) that fits your needs. But don’t worry, you’ll still be close to everything. 3 4 The perfect place to do...whatever. The Kellogg Center is the hub of all campus activity. It’s the headquarters for both group and friend meet-ups. It’s also home to many events and entertainment, some good food (you’ll love the Eat Shop’s amazing burgers and wraps), and our campus bookstore. Plus, it’s open late and filled with plenty of comfy couches and chairs. Study. Hang. Eat. Relax. 5 6 Sure, we’re a talented bunch. And at Albion, talent attracts talent. So when we’re not performing in one of the Theatre Department’s dramatic or musical productions, we’re welcoming big-name entertainers to campus (recently, we’ve seen Three Doors Down, O.A.R., Sean Kingston, and Seth Meyers). And just to eliminate any possible chance of ever being bored, we can also check out the Albion Jazz Band performing around town or free first-run movies at the Bogar Theater. 7 8 All Britons are bold. We’re all fierce. And we all wear the purplE and gold. But only one of us holds a shield, carries a sword, and wears this sweet helmet. 9 The spirit of Albion flows through each of us. You’ll feel it as we’re running down the field. You’ll see it as you’re walking across the Quad. And you’ll hear it every time we cheer on a Briton team with our distinctive “Io Triumphe” yell. It goes like this: Meet Brit. We’ve been known as the Britons for decades. And now, with the introduction of our mascot, we’ve put a new face with the name. You’ll find Brit proudly cheering on the sidelines wherever Albion teams are competing. At Albion, you can show your stuff. We have 21 varsity sports, plus intramural and club teams. And we’re just as competitive in the classroom. Our athletes are ncaa Postgraduate Scholars and Academic All-Americans, and they put huge gpas up on the board. Oh, and they win national championships, and earn All-America and All-MIAA honors, too (not that we’re keeping track—it’s more of a love-of-the-game-and-academic-achievement sort of thing around here). Io Triumphe! Io Triumphe! Haben Swaben Rebecca le animor Whoop te whoop te sheller de-vere De-boom dE-ral de-i de-pa-Hooneka Henaka whack a whack A-hob dob balde bora bolde bara Con slomade hob dob Rah! Al-bi-on Rah! We know, it sounds pretty ridiculous now, but you’ll get the hang of it in no time. Hint: the “Io” is pronounced “yo.” 10 varsity sports Baseball Basketball (M, W) Cross Country (M, W) Equestrian Hunt Seat (M, W) Football Golf (M, W) Lacrosse (M, W) Soccer (M, W) Softball Swimming and Diving (M, W) Tennis (M, W) Track and Field (M, W) Volleyball club sports Co-ed Canoe Co-ed Cheerleading Co-ed Volleyball Equestrian Hockey Ultimate Frisbee IntraMURALS Basketball Indoor Soccer Kickball Softball Ultimate Frisbee Volleyball Albion is a member of NCAA Division III. 11 12 where we play Varsity baseball field Indoor courts for intramural basketball, volleyball, badminton, and tennis Varsity basketball and volleyball courts Canoeing facility Equestrian center Artificial turf football stadium with lights Lacrosse and soccer fields 2 racquetball courts Softball field 4 indoor tennis courts 6 outdoor tennis courts Track and field facilities with a 400-meter rubberized track A 1/9-mile indoor track Weight room with fitness equipment Disc golf course 13 14 This is what a world changer looks like. — This is more than just a student. This is an artist. An environmentalist. A runner. A teacher. A storyteller. A cinephile. An adventurer. A political activist. A Frisbee golfer. An air guitarist. A community volunteer. An early riser. A risk taker. A mold breaker. 15 16 Make a world of difference. It starts at Albion’s local senior center and the elementary school down the street. And it continues into Appalachia, Latin America, and West Africa. We believe in living a life of service, whether we’re building houses with Habitat for Humanity, helping to provide medical and dental care for people around the world, or creating a clean source of water for an impoverished village. Albion students are seeing the world, and seeing it become a better place. Here, giving back is a way of moving forward. That’s why you’ll find an abundance of organizations and groups focused on service. Together, They’re contributing to our campus, our communities, and our world. And in the process, we learn more about those in need, as well as ourselves. — 17 18 A tradition of spiritual life. At Albion you’ll find a strong commitment to the spiritual lives of our students. We offer many avenues to practice faith, and we encourage faith-based discussion, because we believe that both foster personal growth. We have a longstanding affiliation with the United Methodist Church, and you’ll find many ways to explore spirituality—no matter your religious beliefs— throughout our richly diverse community. 19 20 It’s your life story. This is just a new chapter. Fraternities and sororities at Albion have a tradition that dates back more than 130 years. Each chapter offers student leadership roles, service opportunities, and academic support in a close-knit environment. Men may choose to live in designated fraternity houses. Most sororities have nonresidential lodges for meetings and social activities. Find a house and you might just find a home. 6 sororities Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Kappa Alpha Alpha Xi Delta Delta Gamma Kappa Alpha Theta Kappa Delta 6 Fraternities Alpha Tau Omega Delta Sigma Phi Delta Tau Delta Sigma Chi Sigma Nu Tau Kappa Epsilon 21 22 check out our attendance sheet. Looking for something to do around campus? Look at the sheet. Student organizations post their events on these painted bedsheets. There’s so much going on around here, you’ll hardly have time to sleep anyway. — Whatever you’re into, you belong here. At Albion, we’re into everything. Pretty much our favorite thing to do is dance, act, discuss faith, DJ, shoot pictures, prepare for our future careers, ride horses, volunteer, map the stars, check out rocks, debate, connect with other students with similar interests, and plan fun campus events that combine some or all of these things. Interested? Join the club. we’ve got more than 100 of them. — Experience four years’ worth of the best day ever. Briton Bash. The Eat Shop at the KC. Festival of the Forks. Finally moving into the Mae. Concerts at the Stack. Day of Woden. Just some of the things you’ve never heard of, which one day you’ll never forget. Want to know what else is happening? Talk to the Rock. The Rock is a 100-year tradition on campus. It’s painted—in the middle of the night, under cover of darkness—by students and groups who want to speak out, make an announcement, or post an event. Walk across the Quad, and you can’t miss it, even under a century’s layers of paint. 23 24 There are more than 100 Albion student organizations, spanning academic, social, athletic, and service themes. The result is an endless list of fun things to do all over campus, and a collection of people who love to do the same things you do.
