Friday, November 23, 2012 ASSISTANT HEAD/UPPER SCHOOL DIRECTOR Aaron HUBBARD, ahubbard@asparis.fr; 01 4112 8285 Last Friday, Upper School students met for a special assembly to mark the 10th anniversary of our association with the Romanian Children’s Relief. Led by student leaders Sabrine Keene and Caroline Sheehey, the event highlights included organization founder and photo journalist Mike Carroll, as well as alumnus Joyce de Coninck, one of the founder student members of our club. Mr. Carroll photos of post-Ceausescu Romania and the children victimized by that period in Romanian history were very moving and showed clearly why the support organization came to be and how important their work has been. The assembly was also an opportunity to honor ASP students who have been part of the organization over the last 10 years, the faculty who have been involved and, most importantly, ASP faculty founder and club leader Jim Denison. The coming weeks promise to be equally action-packed. As we approach the last few weeks of classes before exams, however, it is important that students also get into their optimal academic rhythm to finish off the first semester on the strongest possible note. If a student needs to miss a class, anticipated or otherwise, he or she should make every effort to speak with the teacher in advance to get caught up on the materials and assignments. As always, please let us know if we can ever be of assistance in any way. University Interviews As University Admissions season is full gear right now for seniors, I know that many of you will be meeting with admissions interviews with college representatives in the weeks and months to come. As I mentioned in assembly recently, it is often very helpful to have a practice interview in order to prepare yourself for this important meeting. For any interested seniors, Mr. Vezina will be happy to conduct a mock 20 minute interview at your convenience. You just need to email cvezina@asparis.fr with possible times that would work with your schedule. REMINDER: IB Diploma Candidates You should all be doing ManageBac / CAS entries online regularly. At least four journal entries per quarter/per activity is expected. If you have questions, please see Mr. Vezina or Ms. Karam. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! UPPER SCHOOL MUSICAL NEWS Dear Students, Actors, Painters, Dancers, Builders, Costumers, Musicians... Experience welcome but not a requirement. Audition sessions will be held in the PAC Monday 26 NOV 3:45- 6pm Tuesday 27 NOV 3:456pm (Wed. & Thur. Call backs as needed) AUDITIONS AT A.S.P: Auditions are a traditional way to cast a production. Although auditions are also held at ASP, they are not held in the spirit of seeking after any particular role. Students audition to be a part of the Company. The primary purpose of the Audition is to allow the directors and performers to become acquainted: to explore the common languages that will become the building blocks of the performance as well as find where one’s strengths can best serve the creative brainstorming and team work necessary to build a cohesive company and creative performance. We would like everyone interested in participating in the production to attend Monday’s Session. Actors/Singers: we would like you to prepare a song and a short monologue of your own choosing for Monday. Auditions will also involve movement, improve and scene reading. Scripts can be picked up from Theater Office by PAC WHAT GETTING INVOLVED MEANS REHEARSAL COMMITMENTS: 7-week commitment starting Monday 07 January -Monday 04 March. Dear Parents of this Year’s 2013 ASP Seniors, Each year, ASP students dedicate their valuable time and hard work to publish a yearbook that expresses the school year’s special moments and memories. Each year, we also offer the parents of seniors a chance to make their child’s yearbook even more special by allowing them to submit a parent ad. These ads consist of text & photographs of parent, family members, and the individual senior. Many students value such personal messages very dearly, especially as they leave and attend universities far from home. Parent ads for seniors have become a longtime tradition in yearbooks and have been an integral component of the Senior page section in past ASP yearbooks. The ads are offered in quarter or half page sizes. Characteristics: Quarter page : €160, dimensions: 10 by 13, 2 photos maximum + text Half page: €210, dimensions: 20 by13 cm, 5 photos maximum + text These pages are limited however, and are offered on a ‘first come first serve’ basis. All photos submitted digitally must be high resolution (300ppi minimum) and all photos submitted hard copy must have the family and address written on the back (copies are preferred). The Yearbook staff is happy and willing to design your ad with your photos and text, however, feel free to design your ad yourself. Photo & text submissions may be sent via email or brought into school on a CD or USB key. If interested, please commit by check and form by January 18th, 2013. The photos must be submitted by January 25th, 2013. If you have any questions or concerns, please free to contact us. We look forward to seeing many parent ads!
