Supply Chain Management In today’s globalised world, supply chain management plays a key role in securing a competitive advantage. It’s a relatively new management concept and involves more than operations or logistics. Today’s supply chain manager needs to have a “T-shaped” competency profile, with emphasis on increasingly important soft skills. Contacts The T-shape assumes that today’s supply chain professionals have a deep understanding of material and information flows in modern business practice. Furthermore, an increasingly important role of supply chain management lies in understanding, enhancing and streamlining communication with other roles in the organisation like Finance, R&D and Marketing & Sales. In future, the effectiveness of the supply chain will come from the manager’s ability to build sustainable business value through collaboration with his colleagues in other departments.
